Keller explores in MILKING IN THE SHADOWS: Migrants and Mobility in America’s Dairyland, the complexity of the undocumented workers experience on rural Midwest dairy farms. Analyzing the shift from small family run dairy farms to mega-dairy operations that rely on the labor of undocumented immigrants, Keller exposes the paradox of America’s demand for cheap dairy products while also denying these individuals basic labor rights. Written largely from the lens of immigrant workers, Keller outlines the circular migration pattern of these dairy workers and the dangers they face not only crossing the border but also living on Midwest dairy farms. Particularly, self-care practices among rural social work professionals have been overlooked in the research. The theoretical basis of this teaching pedagogy combines infusion methodology with experiential learning. The infusion method addresses two areas which faculty specifically wanted to include: critical thinking and problem-solving skills. A comparable project by Young, Lee and Kovacs (2016) also used experiential learning and stated, “university student engagement in service-learning type activities has been shown to have an impact on students’ beliefs, attitudes, and values, particularly related to working with older adults”. Teaching Msw Students Suicide Assessment, Intervention, And Postvention In Rural Areas, Aisling Del Quest, Randall Nedegaard

This teaching note argues the need for enhanced suicide assessment and intervention training for MSW students preparing for rural social work practice. A detailed outline of a suicide elective course is presented, addressing rural specific challenges. After course completion, students (N = 49) reported feeling better prepared to work with suicidal clients and better able to conduct an accurate assessment and suggest appropriate interventions.

Essential healthcare is a civil right. Payments toward healthcare is a moral compulsion, and no less strong than legal compulsion like income tax. Healthcare payments can redistribute disposable income. Redistribution may be vertical (from rich to poor or opposite) and horizontal (from men to women or from households without children to households with children). Health planners are interested in degrees to which redistribution occurs. In this paper, we aim to analyze how well different forms of healthcare payments in Bangladesh redistribute disposable income. The acquisition of bepress by Elsevier in August 2017, while unpopular among many librarians, provides both companies opportunities for expansion and growth. This Balance Point column outlines some of the benefits to both companies and the reaction by the library community. Also addressed is the announcement by the Penn Libraries that they are searching for a new open source repository potentially to replace bepress’s Digital Commons. The column concludes with some discussion of Elsevier’s relationship with open access content and the impact of the acquisition on the scholarly communications infrastructure.

This quantitative research study focused on teachers’ perceptions of the relationship between the instructional leadership skills of their principals and the academic achievement of students in high-poverty schools in the Northwest Tennessee CORE region. All 14 of the participating schools were above the 50 percent threshold to be considered a high-poverty school. According to the overall effectiveness rating levels for TCAP performance on the 2014-2015 Tennessee Department of Education Report Card, four schools were rated as below average performance, three schools were rated as average performance, and six schools were rated as above average performance. Students who are diagnosed with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) comprise 25% of students with disabilities who receive educational accommodations in post-secondary settings, and represent roughly 2 - 4% of college students (Weyandt et al., 2013). However, there are mixed results regarding the efficacy of testing accommodations, specifically extended time, and whether these accommodations may offer an advantage to students with ADHD (Gregg & Nelson, 2012). In addition to extended test time, students with ADHD commonly use minimal disturbance rooms. However, there is little research regarding the efficacy of the accommodation. Neighborhood interactions and edaphic conditions can help predict the distribution of species and the composition and structure of plant communities. The longleaf pine ecosystem of the southeastern U.S. provides an ideal setting in which to study interactions among dominant members of the understory community. Bunchgrasses provide the structure and fuel that enable frequent fires to mediate succession and maintain the extremely diverse understory community characteristic of the imperiled longleaf pine ecosystem. Omnivores can dampen trophic cascades by feeding at multiple trophic levels, yet few studies have evaluated how intraspecific variation influences the effect of omnivores on community structure. The Speckled Dace (Rhinichthys osculus) is an omnivorous cyprinid that consumes algae and invertebrates and is abundant throughout the western United States. I sought to identify the effects of size and size structure on top-down control by dace and learn how these effects scaled with density. Research on how horses are used and cared for in PATH Intl.-affiliated THR programs is limited. Therefore, the objective of this study was to gather data regarding horse use and care to form a baseline. Hemp, or Cannabis sativa, is a plant that can be used for many products, such as textiles, oils, and seeds. Currently, the four most important textiles in the United States’ manufacturing industry are cotton, wood, silk, and linen. In the 1950s, the United States Government banned the production of hemp, as it was legislated into the marijuana policy of this industry. Because of this, the hemp crop was pushed out of the textile industry and replaced by cloth, linens, and textiles. One of the great themes of algebraic combinatorics is the exploration of connections between ordered structures and group actions/representations. This thesis furthers this theme by presenting diamond-colored distributive lattice models of certain poly nomials that are invariant under the action of the type Bn Weyl group. Initially we realize these lattices as diamond-colored lattices of order ideals from certain vertex colored posets. We explore various coordinatizations of these lattices via partition-like elements, tableaux, and binary-type representations called tally diagrams. Anthelmintic treatment is known to improve cattle performance; however, effects of long-acting eprinomectin (LAE) and co-treatment (Co-Trt) use has not been widely evaluated. Lactate dehydrogenase is an important cytoplasmic enzyme which can serve as an indicator of cellular damage but little information is available regarding differences in activity of calves receiving various anthelmintics. Therefore, the objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of various anthelmintic treatments on fecal egg counts (FEC), performance, blood parameters, and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) activity of newly received stocker calves. We consider an eigenvalue problem with a mixed boundary condition, where a second-order differential operator is given in divergence form and satisfies a uniform ellipticity condition. We show that if a function u in the Sobolev space W^1,p_D is a weak solution to the eigenvalue problem, then u also belongs to W^1,p_D for some p>2. To do so, we show a reverse Hölder inequality for the gradient of u. The decomposition of the boundary is assumed to be such that we get both Poincaré and Sobolev-type inequalities up to the boundary.

Supervision is a dynamic and challenging leadership process that remains an essential element within the field of speech-language pathology. This study utilized a descriptive research design in attempt to amass quantifiable information that can be used to statistically analyze elements within the supervisor-supervisee relationship. Agreement of perceived supervisory styles and satisfaction between supervisor-supervisee dyads (n=74) were examined. External and personal characteristics including age, clinical setting, experience, and previous training were also examined in relation to supervisee satisfaction and agreement of supervisory styles within dyads. The objective of this study was to determine if Roundup (active ingredient: Glyphosate) causes negative effects on behavior, growth, and mortality of larval Pachydiplax longipennis. Larvae were captured from rainwater-filled mesocosms at Hancock Biological Station in Murray, KY. Larvae were exposed to one of four concentrations of Roundup (0mg/L, 2.5mg/L, 5mg/L, or 10mg/L). Daphnia consumption, seek refuge, and anti-predator trials were conducted at 7 and 14 days post-exposure. Growth and survival trials were carried out for eight weeks using different larvae. There were no significant differences among treatments for whether or not larvae ate offered Daphnia for Day 7 …
