Cybersecurity In The Healthcare Environment, Karla Durham
Cybersecurity In The Healthcare Environment, Karla Durham
Integrated Studies
Abstract
In 1990 the online world began to take shape when Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web. Almost simultaneously, cybersecurity was birthed to protect and minimize the various threats including but not limited to worms, viruses, and data breaches. Cybersecurity includes the various technologies, equipment both hardware and software, processes, and procedures that are used to guard against unauthorized attacks or access to protected information.
This paper will focus on cybersecurity as it relates to the healthcare environment. Every department in a healthcare facility is responsible for taking care of patients. This should be their number one priority and …
The Power Of Nonverbal Communication, Samantha Lawrence
The Power Of Nonverbal Communication, Samantha Lawrence

“Donald Sessions said, “Connection even for a brief moment produces the powerful enchantment of presence,” (Baumgardner, 2017). The connection an individual makes with one another is through communication; whether it is verbal or nonverbal. A review of current journals on the effects nonverbal communication has on religion, workplace interactions, peer friendships, and family relationships was conducted. During the review it was found nonverbal communication makes an impact on the type of individuals in another’s life whether it is consciously or unconsciously done. It was discovered individuals leave a lasting impression with their audience and they do so with the type …

Instructional Technology Is A Vital Tool In Today’S Classroom, Austin Wynn
Integrated Studies
For my project, I am going to be talking about instructional technology. Before being in the program I was once an elementary education major and I thought that technology in the classroom had served a major role in today’s education. According to the Association for Educational Communications and Technology: “Instructional technology is the theory and practice of design, development, utilization, management, and evaluation of processes and resources for learning.” Instructional technology is important in today’s classroom because it gives students another way to learn and comprehend ideas in learning about different topics. If I decide to go back to elementary …

Abstract
The evolution of communications in the military as it relates to leadership will review the different means and methods of communications that have been used throughout U.S military history. This will be accomplished using a chronological format. Starting in the Revolutionary time when horseback riders and written communications were the primary means for commanders to relay orders to subordinates, through the invention of the telegraph, that was one of the most significant communications methods developed during the first one-hundred years of United States history. From the telegraph to wireless technology and finally to present day and the widespread use …

This paper takes us back in time with a look at the world and the South Eastern Conference during the time of integration all the way up to present day. It shows the struggle young African-American men and women had to go through in everyday life. The 1960s was a time when young African-American athletes weren’t just thinking about the last play of the game in the deep South but will they be ok making it back to the bus. This looks into two college athletes during this time period and what they went through from the outside world to …

Growing Bonds With Nature: Transformation Of An Outdoor Childcare Environment, Bonna Lake
Growing Bonds With Nature: Transformation Of An Outdoor Childcare Environment, Bonna Lake
Integrated Studies
Children’s disconnection with nature has become increasingly clear over the last few decades throughout the world due to a number of factors, including technological and societal shifts. Reconnection with nature is proposed as a solution, demonstrating countless benefits in physical, mental, emotional, and social domains. Using an approach influenced by STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) frameworks, I proposed to redesign and renovate my early childhood program’s outdoor environment. The goal was to not only achieve a positive, natural environment for preschoolers to encourage core concepts like science, mathematics, and engineering, but also to develop and strengthen the relationship …
A Comparative Analysis Of The Coalescing Of Non-Biblical And Biblical Principles To Maximize Workplace Productivity, Ryan Stanger
A Comparative Analysis Of The Coalescing Of Non-Biblical And Biblical Principles To Maximize Workplace Productivity, Ryan Stanger
Integrated Studies
The relationship between leadership, management and communication theories and practices that result in productive work environments are explored. The analysis includes various business cultures, leadership strategies, management tactics, training methods, and philosophies that reflect the workplace culture most employees prefer. Research suggests that Christian business leaders can thrive in a secular marketplace and they can have just as much success leading teams as non-Christian leaders. Research validates the premise that a workplace environment built on Christian principles will not only succeed in the basic sense, but it can thrive. This paper is a comparative analysis of Biblical and non-Biblical perspectives …

Phthalate And Non-Phthalate Plasticizers In Indoor Dust From Childcare Facilities, Salons, And Homes Across The Usa, Bikram Subedi, Kenneth D. Sullivan, Birendra Dhungana
Faculty & Staff Research and Creative Activity
The quality of indoor environment has received considerable attention owing to the declining outdoor human activities and the associated public health issues. The prolonged exposure of children in childcare facilities or the occupational exposure of adults to indoor environmental triggers can be a culprit of the pathophysiology of several commonly observed idiopathic syndromes. In this study, concentrations of potentially toxic plasticizers (phthalates as well as non-phthalates) were investigated in 28 dust samples collected from three different indoor environments across the USA. The mean concentrations of non-phthalate plasticizers [acetyl tri-n-butyl citrate (ATBC), di-(2-ethylhexyl) adipate (DEHA), and diisobutyl adipate (DIBA)] were found …

Faculty & Staff Research and Creative Activity
Environmental contamination by pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) is barely studied in India despite being one of the largest global producers and consumers of pharmaceuticals. In this study, 29 pharmaceuticals and six metabolites were determined in sewage treatment plants (STPs) in Udupi (STPU: population served ~150,000) and Mangalore (STPM: population served ~450,000); the measured mean concentrations ranged from 12 to 61,000 ng/L and 5.0 to 31,000 ng/L, respectively. Atorvastatin (the most prescribed antihypercholesterolemic in India), mefenamic acid, and paraxanthine were found for the first time in wastewater in India at the mean concentrations of 395 …

The Effects Of Reward-Based Training On The Behavioral Assessment Of The Domestic Dog, Shelby Vandergraff, Shelby K. Vandergraff
The Effects Of Reward-Based Training On The Behavioral Assessment Of The Domestic Dog, Shelby Vandergraff, Shelby K. Vandergraff
Murray State Theses and Dissertations
Contrary to popular belief, pet overpopulation is caused more by owners failing to keep their dog than with accidental or intentional breeding (Moulton et al., 1991). Factors related to relinquishment have been researched, and concluded that behavioral problems are the most reoccurring reasons observed (Bailey, 1992; Miller at al., 1996; Patronek et al., 1996; Serpell, 1966; Salman et al., 1998, 2000; Scarlett et al, 1999; New et al., 2000; Shore et al., 2003, 2005; Mondelli 2004, Blackwell et al., 2008). When animals are relinquished to the shelter, the likelihood of the animal being euthanized increases. The purpose of this research …

Habitat Useage Of Tri-Colored Bats (Perimyotis Subflavus) In Western Kentucky And Tennessee Post-White Nose Syndrome, Katherine Schaefer
Murray State Theses and Dissertations
The tri-colored bat (Perimyotis subflavus) has declined severely across its range since 2006 due to white nose syndrome, a fungal disease causing massive bat mortality in North America. My objective was to determine distinguishing characteristics of roost trees and habitat used by tri-colored bats so that the species’ needs can be considered in management plans. I mist-netted for tri-colored bats in western Kentucky and Tennessee during the summers of 2015 and 2016, and attached a radio transmitter to each captured adult bat. I tracked 15 bats to their day roosts and collected habitat data at 38 roost areas …

P-20 Alignment For Small Towns And Rural Communities, Donald Shively
Murray State Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this mixed methods study was to determine if there is a difference between current workforce skill levels and employer expectations within the Paducah micropolitan area. College and career readiness and cohort graduation rate data were collected for school systems in Kentucky from 2013 to 2016. Using both the college and career readiness data and the cohort graduation data as the dependent variables, the independent-sample t-tests were performed to compare the college and career readiness rates and cohort graduation rates of the pK-12 public schools in the Paducah micropolitan area (N = 12) versus the remaining pK-12 public …
Caregiver Training Program On Emergent Literacy Development Of Augmentative And Alternative Communication Users, Meghan Bowers
Caregiver Training Program On Emergent Literacy Development Of Augmentative And Alternative Communication Users, Meghan Bowers
Murray State Theses and Dissertations
Teaching early literacy to typically developing individuals is widely practiced and has a vast amount of research backing its success (Strum et. al., 2006). Current research has shown that both children and adult augmentative and alternative (AAC) users are underachieving in the development of reading and spelling skills, but the underachievement in these areas is not correlated to a lack of cognitive and linguistic abilities (Sandberg, Smith, Larsson, 2010). Like their typically developing peers, AAC users must have the same repeated opportunities to participate in a wide range of literacy tasks to attain literacy skills (Strum et. al., 2006).

The Relative Effectiveness Of Course Delivery Methodology On Student Success, Retention, And Persistence In Remedial Mathematics, John P. Eveland
The Relative Effectiveness Of Course Delivery Methodology On Student Success, Retention, And Persistence In Remedial Mathematics, John P. Eveland
Murray State Theses and Dissertations
There are a substantial number of studies that consider the effectiveness of online instructional methodologies in general, but there is sparse previous work specifically targeting developmental mathematics students in community colleges. This study examines the relative effectiveness of online versus traditionally delivered developmental mathematics courses at Somerset Community College (SCC) in Somerset, Kentucky. At SCC, developmental mathematics is divided into three consecutive courses, MAT 055, MAT 065, and MAT 085, and this study considered each of these courses separately.
For this study, each student enrollment in any of SCC’s developmental mathematics courses was obtained for students in the Fall 2011 …

Examining The Relationship Between Inattention, Impulsivity, And Externalizing Behaviors In Children: Does Intelligence Play A Role?, Carrie Blackeye-Hall
Murray State Theses and Dissertations
This study gathered data using archival clinical files from the Murray State University Psychological Center, which provides psychological services to students, faculty, staff, and community members. The majority of the participants for the sample consisted of Caucasian (93%) males (60%) seeking an assessment (N = 76). Measures of externalizing behaviors and attentional problems were gathered from the Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL), and a measure of general cognitive ability (GAI) was gathered from the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Fourth Edition (WISC-IV). It was hypothesized that the relationship between impulsivity and externalizing behaviors would be more pronounced when intelligence is lower. …

Effects Of Personal Technology Devices On Instruction And Learning In High School Biology, Susan P. Beatty, Teresa Clark Ed.D., Dusty Reed, Yuejin Xu
Murray State Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to explore the use of personal technology devices during classroom instruction as learning tools by high school biology students. The study sought to determine how a classroom environment with a Bring Your Own Device instructional method in place affected student achievement and student perceptions about biology, as well as viewpoints about their devices as tools for learning. Technology in the hands of teenagers today is nearly ubiquitous and often distracting in the traditional classroom. As the literature indicates, different views exist about the efficacy of using personal technology for learning. This study intended to …
A Mediated Model Of Relationships Among Belonging, Identification, And Cohesion In College Athletes, Michelle R. Sherman
A Mediated Model Of Relationships Among Belonging, Identification, And Cohesion In College Athletes, Michelle R. Sherman
Murray State Theses and Dissertations
In an attempt to add to the limit literature measuring team identification and sense of belonging, a sample of 147 current student athletes completed measures of team identification with his or her current sport team, sense of belonging, and levels of cohesion. Four mediation analyses were computed to investigate that sense of belonging mediated the relationship between team identification and a) social integration cohesiveness, b) social attraction cohesion, c) task integration cohesion, and d) task attraction cohesion. Despite what was expected, only one hypothesis was significant: sense of belonging mediated the relationship between team identification and social attraction cohesion. Implications …

Concurrent Validity Of The Missouri Adaptive Behavior Inventory, Hannah Janecek
Murray State Theses and Dissertations
This study was designed to determine the concurrent validity of the Missouri Adaptive Behavior Inventory (MABI) by comparing it to the Adaptive Behavior Assessment ScaleThird Edition (ABAS-3). The MABI is an unpublished measure of adaptive behavior developed to specifically measure adaptive functioning required by federal statute. The ABAS-3 is a norm-referenced, valid, and reliable measure of adaptive behavior published in 2015. Twenty-five children were administered the MABI and the ABAS-3 in a counter-balanced manner, and raw scores were statistically compared using Pearson correlations. As expected, numerous statistically significant correlations were found among the MABI subtests and between the MABI and …
