Opioid Epidemic, Amy Ford
Opioid Epidemic, Amy Ford
Integrated Studies
Most narcotics and non-synthetic drugs have medicinal values that have helped in treating various conditions in medical practice. Opium is a typical plant that has proved remarkable medicinal values. Opium extracts (opioids) are the most effective analgesics available for tackling pains. Unfortunately, while healthcare and pharmaceuticals exploited the health benefits of the substance, its dirty aspect (addiction) unveiled. As people developed dependence, the pharmaceutical players involved in opioids production increased quantities and enticed medical practitioners to increase prescriptions for the opioid-based painkillers. Consequently, the addiction grew, and healed patients continued the use that has led to widespread overdose and deaths. …

Teachers and administration play a vital role in preparing special needs students for the grade school classroom. The research based curriculums, structures, and classroom routines all play a role in the development of special needs children. By students with special needs attending a public …

Providing a safe environment in educational institutions is vital for students to learn. Safety has progressed over time with the development of occupational safety and health standards that were established in the 1970’s. Since then, safety has become more important in our world. It is a responsibility and a duty to protect students, faculty and all people within a school system. There is not a more important endeavor than the welfare and safety of youth and children. Striving to maintain a safe environment for education in all public and private school settings is reachable by implementing occupational safety and health …

National service programs engage individuals in providing services to their communities in exchange for intrinsic and extrinsic rewards. Individuals ranging from 18 to 99 join national service programs for a number of reasons, including a desire to “give back” or “make a difference.” People also find national service as …

When conducting my research it was very easy to see just how big of an impact sports has on middle school youth. Not all children are raised the same. Come from very loving homes while unfortunately some others do not. Some kids have both parents in their lives, some only have one, some may have neither. This is why sports and sports coaches play such a big role in their athletes’ lives. Through sports they can develop social skills, positive self-esteem, behavior skills, and improve their academics. To help prove this, I have evaluated several different research methods to help …

Abstract
There have been misconceptions about the purpose of early childhood education and early childhood centers and how the program is designed. Many people believe that the early childhood education process is easy because young children do not really learn, but simply spend their time playing at early childhood centers. As a result, many people believe they can teach their child without the assistance of an early childhood center but what caregivers don’t know is that there is more to Early Childhood Education than just playing games. Early Childhood Education helps young children give them a head start on giving …

Reducing The Risks Of Contaminated Flexible Endoscopes And Improving The Margin Of Safety With The Reprocessing Process, Lisa Greenwell
Reducing The Risks Of Contaminated Flexible Endoscopes And Improving The Margin Of Safety With The Reprocessing Process, Lisa Greenwell
Integrated Studies
Gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy is a minimally invasive, medical procedure that is an important tool for the identification and treatment of disorders of the gastrointestinal tract. Contaminated flexible endoscopes pose a significant risk to patients. Endoscopy associated infections and outbreaks have been reported with multi-drug resistant microorganisms. Inadequate endoscope reprocessing has been associated with infectious outbreaks, but some outbreaks have occurred despite strict adherence to established guidelines. To lessen the risk associated with endoscopy, it is imperative to identify problem areas within current reprocessing standards and develop, evaluate, and implement evidence-based solutions.

School Social Workers: Important Assets In Rural Areas, Dana C. Branson
Contemporary Rural Social Work Journal
As the American educational system continues to evolve and take on more social service responsibilities for students, their families, and the community, the need for school social workers has intensified. However, the demand considerably exceeds developed positions for school social workers. The increase in awareness of childhood trauma, toxic stress, poverty, and potential to spill over into the classroom places schools in a position where they need to be responsive to students’ multi-faceted needs. This conceptual article will discuss the overwhelming need for school social workers, barriers to obtaining school social workers, and the benefits school social workers can bring.

Thinking Outside The Girl Box: Teaming Up With Resilient Youth In Appalachia, Rolanda L. Ward
Contemporary Rural Social Work Journal
The fortitude of an isolated community is lived through the words of the writers. While Spatig and Amerikaner sought to examine the cultural norms and experiences of girls in a community not on the radar of most, they were surprised to find themselves a part of the story. Their struggle with this unexpected development, ultimately leads the reader to the conclusion that community work is not only transformative for the youth who are served, but also the professionals who serve them, and the researchers who seek to work in partnership to record their journey. This text challenges social science researchers …
