Efficiently Discovering Users Connectivity With Local Information In Online Social Networks, Na Li, Sajal K. Das

Computer Science Faculty Research & Creative Works

People's activities in Online Social Networks (OSNs) have generated a massive volume of data to which tremendous attention has been paid in academia and industry. With such data, researchers and third-parties can analyze human beings’ behaviors in social communities and develop more user-friendly services and applications to meet people's needs. However, often times, they face a big challenge of acquiring the data, as the access to such data is restricted by their collectors (e.g., Facebook and Twitter), due to various reasons, such as their user's privacy. In this paper, we intend to shed light on leveraging limited local social network …

A Collusion-Resistant Revocable Attribute-Based Encryption Scheme For Secure Data Sharing In Cloud, Azharul Islam, Sanjay Kumar Madria Mar 2020

A Collusion-Resistant Revocable Attribute-Based Encryption Scheme For Secure Data Sharing In Cloud, Azharul Islam, Sanjay Kumar Madria

Computer Science Faculty Research & Creative Works

Attribute-based encryption (ABE) is a prominent cryptographic tool for secure data sharing in the cloud because it can be used to enforce very expressive and fine-grained access control on outsourced data. The revocation in ABE remains a challenging problem as most of the revocation techniques available today, suffer from the collusion attack. The revocable ABE schemes which are collusion resistant require the aid of a semi-trusted manager to achieve revocation. More specifically, the semi-trusted manager needs to update the secret keys of nonrevoked users followed by a revocation. This introduces computation and communication overhead, and also increases the overall security …

Inclusive Audience Analysis And Creating Manageable Content, Carleigh J. Davis, Michelle F. Eble Feb 2020

Inclusive Audience Analysis And Creating Manageable Content, Carleigh J. Davis, Michelle F. Eble

English and Technical Communication Faculty Research & Creative Works

Over the last 15 years, content management systems have dramatically changed the ways we think about our pedagogical approaches to teaching audience analysis. This is especially true when content may need to be reused in a set of discrete contexts for various audiences. This chapter introduces a heuristic that helps students think about, write, and deliver reusable content. Modeled after Ridolfo and DeVoss’s (2009) concept rhetorical velocity, this heuristic introduces students to both how they must consider primary audiences for the content they develop as well as various stakeholders, possible audiences, and potential contexts where their content needs to be …

Chemical and Biochemical Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

Macrophages are a heterogeneous and plastic population of cells whose phenotype changes in response to their environment. Macrophage biologists utilize peritoneal (pMAC) and bone marrow-derived macrophages (BMDM) for in vitro studies. Given that pMACs mature in vivo while BMDM are ex vivo differentiated from stem cells, it is likely that their responses differ under experimental conditions. Surprisingly little is known about how BMDM and pMACs responses compare under the same experimental conditionals. While morphologically similar with respect to forward and side scatter by flow cytometry, reports in the literature suggest that pMACs are more mature than their BMDM counterparts. Given …

The Heuristic Dynamic Programming Approach In Boost Converters, Sepehr Saadatmand, Pourya Shamsi, Mehdi Ferdowsi Feb 2020

The Heuristic Dynamic Programming Approach In Boost Converters, Sepehr Saadatmand, Pourya Shamsi, Mehdi Ferdowsi

Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

In this study, a heuristic dynamic programming controller is proposed to control a boost converter. Conventional controllers such as proportional-integral-derivative (PID) or proportional-integral (PI) are designed based on the linearized small-signal model near the operating point. Therefore, the performance of the controller during the start-up, the load change, or the input voltage variation is not optimal since the system model changes by varying the operating point. The heuristic dynamic programming controller optimally controls the boost converter by following the approximate dynamic programming. The advantage of the HDP is that the neural network-based characteristic of the proposed controller enables boost converters …

The Voltage Regulation Of A Buck Converter Using A Neural Network Predictive Controller, Sepehr Saadatmand, Pourya Shamsi, Mehdi Ferdowsi

Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

In this paper, a neural network predictive controller (NNPC) is proposed to control a buck converter. Conventional controllers such as proportional-integral (PI) or proportional-integral-derivative (PID) are designed based on the linearized small-signal model near the operating point. Therefore, the performance of the controller in the start-up, load change, or reference change is not optimal since the system model changes by changing the operating point. The neural network predictive controller optimally controls the buck converter by following the concept of the traditional model predictive controller. The advantage of the NNPC is that the neural network system identification decreases the inaccuracy of …

We Unravel The Spontaneous Generation Of Vortex-Bright-Soliton Structures In Binary Bose-Einstein Condensates With A Small Mass Imbalance Between The Species Confined In A Two-Dimensional Harmonic Trap Where One Of The Two Species Has Been Segmented Into Two Parts By A Potential Barrier. To Trigger The Dynamics The Potential Barrier Is Suddenly Removed And Subsequently The Segments Perform A Counterflow Dynamics. We Consider A Relative Phase Difference Of Π Between The Segments, While A Singly Quantized Vortex May Be Imprinted At The Center Of The Other Species. The Number Of Vortex Structures Developed Within The Segmented Species Following The Merging Of …

Air Pollution And Mental Health Of Older Adults In China, Yishu Zhou, Jingyi Liu Feb 2020

Air Pollution And Mental Health Of Older Adults In China, Yishu Zhou, Jingyi Liu

Economics Faculty Research & Creative Works

In this paper, we explore the association between air pollution and the mental health and depression of older adults in China. Along with the rapid economic development, concerns about air pollution and recognition of the importance of mental health have risen remarkably in China. Although no firm evidence of an association between air pollution and overall mental health has been found, the results show significant evidence of a positive relationship between air pollution and depression. Moreover, we observe the presence of concerns about environmental inequality, as people are more sensitive to contaminations caused by pollutants with high variation in densities …

Many web sites, in particular ones that serve content from a content management system or database, deliver their content as HTML with an underlying computer generated structure that is then visually formatted and styled using Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) and JavaScript.

Additionally, when the website uses a web form to query and return results, the web address is read by the web server or application server, the address is then parsed for parameters, and the parameters are passed to the database behind the website which control the results returned.

There are techniques that utilize these facts to extract large amounts …

Serious problems will be presented due to using conventional chemical additives to regulate the drilling mud properties, as they have health, safety, and environmental side effects. Thus, there is a considerable necessity for alternative multifunctional bio-enhancer drilling mud additives, which can assist in optimizing the drilling fluid specifications and enhance its effectiveness with the least effects on the environment and the drilling personnel safety. The effects of adding two concentrations of palm tree leaves powder (PTLP) to water-based mud were conducted under fresh and aged conditions using standard API drilling fluids testing methods such as rheometer/viscometer, pH meter and temperature, …

A Robust and Informative Local Shape Descriptor Plays an Important Role in Mesh Registration. in This Regard, Spectral Descriptors that Are based on the Spectrum of the Laplace-Beltrami Operator Have Been a Popular Subject of Research for the Last Decade Due to their Advantageous Properties, Such as Isometry Invariance. Despite Such, However, Spectral Descriptors Often Fail to Give a Correct Similarity Measure for Nonisometric Cases Where the Metric Distortion between the Models is Large. Hence, They Are Not Reliable for Correspondence Matching Problems When the Models Are Not Isometric. in This Paper, it is Proposed a Method to Improve the …

The main objective of this research project is to perform some experimental procedures to inform the ability of the novel adsorbent used in this project. The chemical modification of the adsorbent is the chemical oxidation of pure powder chitosan using some specific redox pairs which are potassium dichromate and sodium bisulphite. After preparing the modified chitosan, there are some parameters that must be discussed during the adsorption process. The first parameter is the time parameter, showing experimentally the optimum time for adsorption under certain conditions by collecting values of absorbance and concentration of thymol blue adsorbed after the process from …

Polyphenols In Alzheimer’S Disease And In The Gut–Brain Axis, V. Prakash Reddy, Puspa Aryal, Sara Robinson, Raheemat Rafiu, Mark Obrenovich, George Perry

Chemistry Faculty Research & Creative Works

Polyphenolic antioxidants, including dietary plant lignans, modulate the gut–brain axis, which involves transformation of these polyphenolic compounds into physiologically active and neuroprotector compounds (called human lignans) through gut bacterial metabolism. These gut bacterial metabolites exert their neuroprotective effects in various neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's disease (AD) and Parkinson's disease (PD), and also have protective effects against other diseases, such as cardiovascular diseases, cancer, and diabetes. For example, enterolactone and enterodiol, the therapeutically relevant polyphenols, are formed as the secondary gut bacterial metabolites of lignans, the non-flavonoid polyphenolic compounds found in plant-based foods. These compounds are also acetylcholinesterase inhibitors and …

Angular Correlation Using Rogers-Szego-Chaos, Christine Schmid, Kyle J. Demars Feb 2020

Angular Correlation Using Rogers-Szego-Chaos, Christine Schmid, Kyle J. Demars

Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

Polynomial chaos expresses a probability density function (pdf) as a linear combination of basis polynomials. If the density and basis polynomials are over the same field, any set of basis polynomials can describe the pdf; however, the most logical choice of polynomials is the family that is orthogonal with respect to the pdf. This problem is well-studied over the field of real numbers and has been shown to be valid for the complex unit circle in one dimension. The current framework for circular polynomial chaos is extended to multiple angular dimensions with the inclusion of correlation terms. Uncertainty propagation of …

We Unravel The Periodically Driven Dynamics Of Two Repulsively Interacting Bosonic Impurities Within A Bosonic Bath Upon Considering Either The Impact Of A Finite Pulse Or Continuous Shaking Of The Impurities Harmonic Trap. Following A Pulse Driving Of Initially Miscible Components, We Reveal A Variety Of Dynamical Response Regimes Depending On The Driving Frequency. At Resonant Drivings, The Impurities Decouple From Their Host, While If Exposed To A High-Frequency Driving, They Remain Trapped In The Bosonic Gas. For Continuous Shaking, We Showcase That In The Resonantly Driven Regime The Impurities Oscillate Back And Forth Within And Outside The Bosonic Medium. …
