"The disseminated lead ore bodies of St. Francois County in southeast Missouri are known for their enormous size and even grade over large areas. Several of these ore bodies are over a mile long by a quarter mile wide. They have been worked on a commensurate scale. The smallest mill in the district, at Bonne Terre, now treats 2,500 tons daily capacity. Each of these mills is supplied by a single ore hoisting shaft. The disseminated ore district of St. Francois County is bounded by the Big River-Bonne Terre fault on the north and west, by the Simms Mountain fault …

"At frequent intervals, there is developed in the refractory field some product which serves to keep this branch of industry in line in the fast moving modern era. The advent of such materials as high temperature mortars and high alumina, super refractories provided a definite mark of progress. "In a newly conceived mining enterprise serious operating problems may remain concealed until encountered in the actual early operating period of the property. The major problems of the Silver Dyke Mine were of this nature. This mine is the property of the Silver Dyke Mining company, a subsidiary of the American Zinc, Lead and Smelting Company. It is situated about five miles from Neihart, Montana. A three-and-one-half-mile trucking road connects the mine with a railway siding. "An abundant amount of chats and clays of various kinds is available in Missouri. In the mining districts of south-eastern and south-western Missouri enormous piles of gang known as chats have accumulated. The mining companies desire to rid themselves of this accumulation and would dispose of the chats at a very low price. "At the present time there are many insulating materials on the market. The temperatures at which these may be utilized vary from the lower temperature range of 100 degrees C, to a high temperature range of 2800 degrees C. "The term "flux" is a relative one and does not refer to any particular class of substances. A flux is any material which will lower the softening, fusion, or liquifying sic temperature of another Bases act as fluxes to siliceous substances while in basic compositions like Portland cement, silica is a flux.
