"The principle forms of magnesium foundry wastes not recovered by industry are fine dusts, such as, sawdust, rotary filings and grindings, and the melting- and refining-pot drosses. The Bureau of Mines has studied waste generation and has developed processes for the treatment of dresses for the recovery of secondary ingot metal and has also developed processes for the mechanical beneficiation of fine dusts. "The need for a technique for making torsion balance surveys of inundated areas was brought to the writer's attention during the years of 1927 to 1933, while employed by The Sinclair Exploration Company to prospect for oil in Austria, Hungary and North and Northwest Germany. At that time, the company was using ten torsion balances, supplementing the work with magnetometer surveys and refraction seismograph detail. During part of this period an elementary and relatively insensitive gravimeter was used. Some reflection seismograph work was also done during the last year of operations. I. SCOPE OF THIS REPORT In the Thirty-eighth Progress Report a series of 118 tests was reported on web crippling under concentrated loads. These 118 tests which included 17 representative tests of the Twenty-fifth Progress Report were carried out for web crippling by loads on the span, by simple end reactions, by end reactions with additional loads on top flange, and by reactions of continuous supports with similar additional loads. Two formulas were developed from the entire series of tests which represented, for the two cases (loads on span, and reactions), all test results with satisfactory accuracy. However, only 8 …

"The Tri-State District, encompassing contiguous corner portions of Southwest Missouri, Southeast Kansas, and Northeast Oklahoma, has been, for many years, the leading zinc producer of the United States. However, rising labor costs and decreasing grade of ore reserves have meant that many of the mines gradually have become marginal in the economic character of their operations. In an attempt to counteract these adverse effects, steps were taken to attain lower cost mining methods, and mechanization has been introduced over a period of years. "The greatest use of feldspar is as a flux in the Ceramic Industry where it is used in the manufacture of abrasives, floor tile, terra cotta, china, and earthenware of all types. It is also used in the manufacture of glass and enamels, and much is used as grinding medium in powdered form because it is softer than the common abrasive, quartz...Missouri Granites are composed of feldspar, quartz, mica, and other materials, which may or may not occur in all the samples.
