Electron Drift Velocities In Helium-Fluorine Gas Mixtures, Kaare J. Nygaard, John L. Fletcher, Scott R. Hunter, Stephen R. Foltyn

Physics Faculty Research & Creative Works

Using a simple time-of-flight technique, we have measured the electron drift velocity in helium with 0.1-1% fluorine additive. Our results in a 0.1% mixture are in close agreement with data in pure helium. The measured drift velocity increases with increasing fluorine concentration. © 1978, American Institute of Physics. Tests On Puddle Weld Connections, William Mcguire, J. W. Struble, Teoman Peköz Apr 1978

Tests On Puddle Weld Connections, William Mcguire, J. W. Struble, Teoman Peköz

CCFSS Library (1939 - present)

PREFACE This non-interpretive report contains the results of 90 tests on circular and oblong puddle weld connections. The connections involved test specimens constructed of flat steel plates and thin connecting sheets of varying thicknesses (10 to 28 gage) with the welds to be studied forning the bond between them. Testing consisted of tensile loading to ultimate failure. This work was carried out under contract with the Engineering Division of the American Iron and Steel Institute.

The Effect Of Antimony, Chloride Ion, And Glue On Copper Electrorefining, Thomas J. O'Keefe, L. R. Hurst Mar 1978

The Effect Of Antimony, Chloride Ion, And Glue On Copper Electrorefining, Thomas J. O'Keefe, L. R. Hurst

Materials Science and Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

A study has been made to determine the effect of antimony, chloride ion, and glue on copper electrorefining. All deposits were made at a temperature of 65° C on a titanium cathode. Current densities of 398 A m-2 and 133 A m-2 were used. The deposits were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) to determine morphology and crystal orientation. Atomic absorption (AA) and Auger spectroscopy (AES) were used to study the chemical composition of the deposits and a simple bend test was used to determine structural integrity. It was found that when the antimony concentration in …

The National Solar Heating And Cooling Information Center, Jeremy A. Lifsey, Sanford Zane Meschkow Jan 1978

The National Solar Heating And Cooling Information Center, Jeremy A. Lifsey, Sanford Zane Meschkow

UMR-MEC Conference on Energy / UMR-DNR Conference on Energy

The Center is an information service funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the U.S. Department of Energy as part of a program to foster the use of solar energy in domestic hot water systems and the heating and cooling of buildings. The Center answers questions by mail and over toll-free hot lines, operates a mobile exhibit van and several exhibits that appear at conferences and trade shows, and distributes HUD and DOE publications on solar energy. Users can request lists of addresses of solar design and construction professionals, manufacturers, distributors, banks that have given solar …

Disseminating Energy Information And Technical Assistance To Clientele Groups, H. Leroy Marlow Jan 1978

Disseminating Energy Information And Technical Assistance To Clientele Groups, H. Leroy Marlow

UMR-MEC Conference on Energy / UMR-DNR Conference on Energy

In Pennsylvania an established statewide technical information network known as PENNTAP (Pennsylvania Technical Assistance Program) has been expanded as part of the federal Energy Extension Services pilot program. This program is providing energy conservation assistance to two clientele groups -- municipalities and small businesses. The operation of a successful technology transfer program is an activity which is being considered by many organizations and this presentation will discuss the philosophy, operational procedures, problems and successes of the PENNTAP/EES program.

Energy From Swine Manure, J. R. Fischer, E. L. Iannotti, D. M. Sievers

UMR-MEC Conference on Energy / UMR-DNR Conference on Energy

This paper discusses results of anaerobically digesting swine manure. Facts and figures are given on utilization of the energy from the anaerobic digester. Design parameters and some of the biochemical changes that occur during digestion are also given.

5th Annual Umr-Dnr Conference On Energy -- Entire Proceedings, University Of Missouri--Rolla

UMR-MEC Conference on Energy / UMR-DNR Conference on Energy

This volume is a collection of refereed papers presented at the Fifth Annual UMR-DNR Conference on Energy held at the University of Missouri--Rolla on the dates of October 10 - 12, 1978.

Guided by the President's goal of energy independence by 1980, the UMR-DNR Conference on Energy organized in 1974 with the purpose of providing social scientists, scientists and engineers a means for rapid communication of their most recent research results in the field of energy and to offer solutions to the energy related problems of local government, business, industry and the general public. Since that time, there has been …

Energy Efficiency: Determination And Commentary, Dennis M. Richter Jan 1978

Energy Efficiency: Determination And Commentary, Dennis M. Richter

UMR-MEC Conference on Energy / UMR-DNR Conference on Energy

Energy consumption is generally associated with quality of life and living standard of a society. Is this assumption correct and is the U.S.A. as efficient in converging the use of energy into societal well being as other countries of the world? These assumptions are explored and suggestions made concerning energy efficiency.

The Effects Of Energy Conservation On Politics, Employment And Inflation, B. M. Worrall Jan 1978

The Effects Of Energy Conservation On Politics, Employment And Inflation, B. M. Worrall

UMR-MEC Conference on Energy / UMR-DNR Conference on Energy

The main tenet of this paper is that up to this time there has in fact been little incentive for consumers to conserve energy. An analysis of the three main types of energy user (industry, transportation and residential) and the ways in which energy may be conserved will show that the political action and legislation necessary for conservation would fail in our democratic society. It will be illustrated that a sudden decrease in energy consumption will cause any or all of the following to occur:- government revenues will fall, unemployment increase, companies go bankrupt, and an increase in prices. The …

Strength Of Arc-Spot Weld In Sheet Steel Construction, Ching Fung Jan 1978

Strength Of Arc-Spot Weld In Sheet Steel Construction, Ching Fung

American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) Specifications, Standards, Manuals and Research Reports (1946 - present)

The weld used by the steel deck erectors to anchor steel decking to structural steel framing is commonly known as "Puddle Weld". It is formed by arc-welding with stick electrodes to "melt" through the deck, resulting in puddle of molten steel durinlj the welding operation. Hence, the weld is commonly referred to in the trade as "Puddle Weld". Since the inception of this research projE:ct, this type of weld has been given a new technical name -the "Arc-Spot Feld" to reflect the actual welding process and the formation of the weld.
