A Complete Coal Mine Survey, Harry A. Kluge
A Complete Coal Mine Survey, Harry A. Kluge
Professional Degree Theses
"As an introduction to this thesis, it would probably be well to give the laws of the State of Illinois relative to mine maps. These laws come under "An Act to revise the laws in relation to the coal mines and subjects relating thereto, and providing for the health and safety of persons employed therein. Approved June 6, 1911, inforce July 1, 1911. leaf 1911, page 388." Section 7 reads as follows: (a) The operator of every coal mine in the State shall make, or cause to be made, an accurate map or plan of such mine, drawn to a …
A Report On Drill Steel Wear At Isle Royale Mine, Houghton, Michigan, James Joseph Dowd
A Report On Drill Steel Wear At Isle Royale Mine, Houghton, Michigan, James Joseph Dowd
Professional Degree Theses
"In 1917 the miners at the Isle Royale Copper Company's mines were constantly complaining about poor drills and an investigation was made to discover any reasons for the complaint"--page 1.
Flotation Tests On A Table Sludge From The Golden Rod Milling Company At Tar River, Oklahoma, William H. Kamp
Flotation Tests On A Table Sludge From The Golden Rod Milling Company At Tar River, Oklahoma, William H. Kamp
Professional Degree Theses
"The purpose of this experimental work is to give to the operators of the Joplin District some facts concerning the possibilities of flotation in their district. An attempt will be made to show that high-grade concentrates can be made economically; also that the usual gravity concentration. It is believed that the oil and reagent used will not put a prohibitive cost burden upon the operators. It is, of course, realized that flotation concentrates of any zinc tenor bear a penalty because of the fineness of the product"--Introduction, page 3.

The Mexican Oil Fields, Raul Chavez
The Mexican Oil Fields, Raul Chavez
Professional Degree Theses
"Owing to the large area involved in this paper it is proposed to give only briefly the history, geology and development of the oil industry in Mexico, as well as to discuss in a general way the present oil legislation which has brought so much comment in the papers and has raised to much diplomatic trouble between the Mexican and United States Governments. This discussion is therefore of a brief nature and only the most culminant features and details of the subject in mind are here treated. The information and data here given were accumulated during personal examination of the …
The Manufacture Of Sulphuric Acid By The Chamber Process At Isabella, Tennessee, Albert Leo Trent
The Manufacture Of Sulphuric Acid By The Chamber Process At Isabella, Tennessee, Albert Leo Trent
Professional Degree Theses
"As the regions surrounding the smelteries are growing more densely populated, the companies operating in these districts find if necessary in many cases to take care of their waste gases which are injurious to the surrounding vegetation and thereby avoid many expensive lawsuits and claims from the land owners in the district...The smelters at once began to look around for some method of taking care of their fumes...The companies then began to install the more expensive process of handling their fumes by adding a sulphuric acid plant to their smeltery. This is very expensive to install but is not only …
Mine Surveying In The Missouri Coal Fields, Edgar C. M. Burkhart
Mine Surveying In The Missouri Coal Fields, Edgar C. M. Burkhart
Professional Degree Theses
"The mines surveyed and included in this thesis are certain mines in the foremost and second largest producing counties in the state, namely Macon and Adair county. This thesis also includes surveying at one mine in Randolph County ... The mines included in this thesis operate mainly in the Bevier bed. This seam contains an average of 41 inches of coal in Adair County and is somewhat thicker in Macon and Randolph County. All mines in the Bevier bed are operated on the room and pillar system of mining with about 50 to 60 percent extraction in Adair County and …
Investigations To Determine A Possible Source Of The Carboniferous Sandstone Of The Ozark Region, John Hyer Bowles, Lewis Ely Davidson, William Ferdinand Netzeband
Investigations To Determine A Possible Source Of The Carboniferous Sandstone Of The Ozark Region, John Hyer Bowles, Lewis Ely Davidson, William Ferdinand Netzeband
Professional Degree Theses
"In preparing this thesis the object has been to determine, by comparisons, a possible source of the Carboniferous sandstones. It is perfectly obvious that the material came from some older formation. Considering all the possible sources from which the Carboniferous sandstone could have originated, we, have the Pre-Cambrian igneous rocks of the St. Francois Mountains, the basal Cambrian sandstone or the La Motte formation, the Roubidoux formation (chiefly sandstone), and the St. Peter formation (essentially sandstone)"--Introduction, page 4.
Furfural (Furfuraldehyde) And Some Of Its Derivatives, Marion Smith Badollet
Furfural (Furfuraldehyde) And Some Of Its Derivatives, Marion Smith Badollet
Masters Theses
"In the spring of 1919 the Eastman Kodak laboratories suggested to the chemistry department of the Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy that experiments on small-scale production of furfural be undertaken. After a series of experiments a small amount of this product was made and a report was given before the American chemical Society at St. Louis in April 1920. The furfural prepared at the Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy was sold to the Eastman Kodak laboratories. Within recent years very little experimental work has been done on furfural. It commands a high price as only small amounts are …
The Action Of Nitrogen Trioxide On Pinene, Ernest Wayne Rembert
The Action Of Nitrogen Trioxide On Pinene, Ernest Wayne Rembert
Masters Theses
"The action of nitrous acid on pinene was first studied by Pesci and Bettelli in 1885. they obtained an oil, which, when treated with NH₄OH and steam distilled gave a product of the formula C₁₀H₁₆NO₂. At this point the investigation was discontinued. It is the purpose of this work to show the true mechanism of the reaction and also to establish the formula and nature of the products obtained"--Introduction, page 3.
Glucose From Corn Cobs, Barney Nudelman
Glucose From Corn Cobs, Barney Nudelman
Masters Theses
"The efforts of American chemists in recent years have been devoted largely to the utilization of our waste products...Corn cobs offer a particularly inviting field for research along this line on account of the large supply of cobs available and the variety of substances obtainable from them. One of the leaders in this branch of investigation is Dr. F. B. LaForge of the Chemistry Division of the Bureau of Agriculture, who has contributed numerous papers on the subject. In one of these, in collaboration with C. S. Hudson, he describes, among other things, the preparation of glucose, but recognizes the …
The Copper Deposits Of Shannon County, Missouri, John Hyer Bowles, Lewis Ely Davidson
The Copper Deposits Of Shannon County, Missouri, John Hyer Bowles, Lewis Ely Davidson
Masters Theses
"The object of this report has been three-fold. First, it has been deemed necessary to discuss the general geology of the area about Eminence, showing the distribution and character of the different formations. The distribution is shown on a topographic map of the Eminence Quadrangle...In the second place, it is intended to give a detailed account of the history, development, and extent of mining operations in Shannon county, with the amounts of production and the occurrence of the ore. The third object of this report is to develop a probable theory for the genesis of the ore, and to discuss …
The Preparation Of Zinc Chloride From Smelter Waste, Victor K. Fischlowitz
The Preparation Of Zinc Chloride From Smelter Waste, Victor K. Fischlowitz
Masters Theses
"Interest in the matter of recovering zinc from residual material attaches through the value of a practical method of recovery consistent with commercial operations. The material used in this work at the Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy was supplied by one of the large chemical firms of Saint Louis"--Introduction, page 3.
