Latent Class Analysis And Information Retrieval, George Loyd Jensen
Latent Class Analysis And Information Retrieval, George Loyd Jensen
Masters Theses
"Information retrieval may be defined roughly as a procedure to either locate or physically retrieve a document or documents containing information on a given topic with a high degree of reliability. Information retrieval is one of the newest fields in computing science. Being so new there are many unexplored areas. The research that has been done has not been standardized beyond the point of the effort which has been slanted toward solving the "Library Problem" ... Several different information retrieval methods have been suggested and some research done on them to try and solve the "Library Problem". Of these methods …
Coprecipitation Of Metal Salts With Organic Coprecipitants, Omar E. El-Arini
Coprecipitation Of Metal Salts With Organic Coprecipitants, Omar E. El-Arini
Masters Theses
"Coprecipitation studies were carried out for the more insoluble salts of six common metals and five anion systems. Three metal sulfides, namely, CuS, CdS and NiS, were the only metal salts studied that indicated nearly complete coprecipitation with phenolphthalein as carrier precipitate. The same salts showed almost no coprecipitation with B-naphthol as carrier precipitate. Solvent extraction of CuS with chloroform showed no significant amount of extraction had taken place. The data obtained in this work did not disclose any relationship between the extent of coprecipitation and the solubility product constant of the salt present. The main difficulty encountered at this …
Geochemical Prospecting For Copper In The Northern Part Of Yuma County, Arizona, Abdul Razak Kasim Al-Hashimi
Geochemical Prospecting For Copper In The Northern Part Of Yuma County, Arizona, Abdul Razak Kasim Al-Hashimi
Masters Theses
"Geochemical prospecting for copper has been carried out in two selected areas in the northern part of Yuma County, Arizona. These areas have a few old copper mines and some other zones of mineralization. The rocks of the area range in age from Precambrian to Quaternary and consist of complex gneiss, lava flows, schists, marble, sandstone, conglomerates and some intrusive dikes. A cold-extractible [sic] field method was used to study the relation between the copper content of stream sediments in washes and the geology, mineralization, and topography of the areas. A few total copper tests were also carried out. Another …
A Parameter Perturbation Technique Applied To Multipoint Iteration Functions For The Solution Of Systems Of Nonlinear Equations, Robert N. Delozier
A Parameter Perturbation Technique Applied To Multipoint Iteration Functions For The Solution Of Systems Of Nonlinear Equations, Robert N. Delozier
Masters Theses
"The convergence of classical iterative procedures, when applied to a system of nonlinear algebraic or transcendental equations, is highly dependent upon a good initial approximation to the desired roots. Most of the classical iterative schemes have convergence factors between one and two. In this paper iterative schemes of order two and greater are studied in connection with a parameter perturbation process. The parameter perturbation process relaxes the restrictions on the choice of initial values. The procedure divides each problem into a number of subsidiary problems. Each subsidiary system of equations is then solved until a solution is found to the …
A Study Of The Piezometric Surface Of The Grand Falls Formation In The Duenweg-Oronogo Mining Belt East Of Joplin, Missouri, Renny Roger Nichols
A Study Of The Piezometric Surface Of The Grand Falls Formation In The Duenweg-Oronogo Mining Belt East Of Joplin, Missouri, Renny Roger Nichols
Masters Theses
"The Joplin area of Missouri, which includes the Duenweg-Oronogo belt, was a famous zinc and lead mining district. Many mines were abandoned after World War I and filled with water. These provide a large potential supply of ground water. Expansion of industries and population in the area since World War II has caused a demand for water. In 1964, the Ground Water Branch, Water Resources Division, of the United States Geological Survey began a project to study the surface and ground water resources of the area. As part of his work on this project, the author measured the piezometric level …
Near Optimal Sequencing :N Jobs And M Machines; All Jobs To Be Processed Through The Same Order Of Machines, Larry Glen Clark
Near Optimal Sequencing :N Jobs And M Machines; All Jobs To Be Processed Through The Same Order Of Machines, Larry Glen Clark
Masters Theses
"There is a need, in industry, for an efficient method of determining an optimal sequence for processing a number of jobs through two or more machines. A method which requires a minimum amount of time would be most beneficial. The purpose of this study has been to define such a method. Tests on the method described indicate that although an optimal solution is not always obtained, the solutions obtained are quite good and due to the time factor the method would be beneficial to industry"--Abstract, page ii.
A Study Of The Influence Of Shock Waves On The Stability Of Rock-Bolt Anchorage, Helmut W. Habenicht
A Study Of The Influence Of Shock Waves On The Stability Of Rock-Bolt Anchorage, Helmut W. Habenicht
Masters Theses
"An experimental method was developed to compare strain data for rock and rock bolts when exposed to shock waves released by blasting. During a 32-day period of experimentation, one rock sensor and four rock-bolt sensors were observed simultaneously. By their placement in the side wall of a structurally stable drift, secondary static stresses were excluded. Bolt gage responses, then, could be considered to originate only from a decay of anchorage stability during static conditions or as a reaction to the vibrations. Interpretation of test results indicated a distinct loss in bolt-strain during vibrations, accompanied by a smaller but steady loss …

Stratigraphy, Sedimentation And Structure Of The Upper Cherokee And Lower Marmaton (Pennsylvanian) Rocks Of Bates County, And Portions Of Henry And Vernon Counties, Missouri, Richard J. Gentile
Doctoral Dissertations
"The major purpose of this dissertation is to describe in detail the stratigraphy of the upper Cherokee and lower Marmaton groups of the Middle Pennsylvanian, Desmoinesian Series in a portion of western Missouri. The stratigraphy of the upper Cherokee and lower Marmaton groups in areas of Kansas west of the project area has been studied by several workers. The most recent contributions have been by Jewett in 1941 and 1945, and by Howe in 1956. Detailed geological mapping also has been completed under the direction of the Missouri Geological Survey in areas to the east of the project area. Most …

A Ti-Hg Collision Cross Section, Edward E. Stepp, Richard A. Anderson
A Ti-Hg Collision Cross Section, Edward E. Stepp, Richard A. Anderson
Physics Faculty Research & Creative Works
The lifetime of the 63P1 state of Hg was observed as a function of Tl density at two different Hg pressures. From these data it appears that at high Tl densities the lifetime of the 63P1 state of Hg is controlled by collisions with Tl atoms. Using this assumption and simple gas kinetic theory, a cross section for these collisions was calculated.

On The Calculation Of Multicenter Two-Electron Repulsion Integrals Involving Slater Functions, Russell A. Bonham, Jerry Peacher, Henry L. Cox
Physics Faculty Research & Creative Works
Integral transforms are used to evaluate many-center two-electron repulsion integrals involving Slater s-type functions. The reduction of a general four-center integral of this type to a form convenient for computational purposes is presented. The technique described has the important advantage that all lesser many-center and one-center integrals can be obtained from the four-center case by proper choice of constants. The form of the result is such that simple single-precision numerical techniques yield rapid and accurate evaluations of many-center integrals. Several numerical examples are presented.
