Gravity Investigations Over A Salt Structure Near Lübbecke, Northern Germany, Reinhard K. Frohlich Oct 1971

Gravity Investigations Over A Salt Structure Near Lübbecke, Northern Germany, Reinhard K. Frohlich

Geosciences and Geological and Petroleum Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

A detailed gravity survey was conducted parallel to the “Wiehengebirge” northwest of Minden in Northern Germany. The survey localized between Liibbecke and Levern a salt deposit, which is known as “Münder Mergel” salt of the Upper Jurassic. The salt deposit forms a cylindrical structure with an axis striking NWW. With a deep drill hole detailed interpretation was possible using the polygon method of TALWANI, WORZEL and LANDISMAN [1959], The section shapes of salt bodies under eight profiles show asymmetrical figures of two salt units. Both increase in thickness strongly to the northeast, where the salt is interrupted by a fault …

Thermal Lattice Expansion Of Various Types Of Solids, Jayantkumar Shantilal Shah Jan 1971

Thermal Lattice Expansion Of Various Types Of Solids, Jayantkumar Shantilal Shah

Doctoral Dissertations

"Thermal lattice expansion studies of various types of solids were carried out in this investigation and were corelated to their crystallographic and various other properties. The advantages and limitations of various methods of studying thermal expansion are discussed in detail. A new design for a versatile low temperature camera to study expansion by an X-ray method is proposed. The thermal lattice expansion of silicon was negative below 119ºK. This behavior is discussed in terms of crystal structure and interatomic bonding. Diamond exhibits no anomalous thermal expansion. Lattice parameter data for many metals at low temperatures are reported for the first …

A Software System For Interactive Man-Machine Design And Analysis Of Electronic Circuits, Leo William Midden Jan 1971

A Software System For Interactive Man-Machine Design And Analysis Of Electronic Circuits, Leo William Midden

Masters Theses

"The development of an interactive computer-aided circuit analysis program is presented. A graphics terminal is used as an I/O device while an SCC 650 mini-computer is used as peripheral processor. The central processor is an IBM 360/50.

Formulation, capabilities and use of the system are discussed in detail. Close attention is given to user control, making the system both useful and versatile. Both hard and soft copies of all plots and tabular data are available. Provisions are made for error corrections and changes at each step of the input. Parameter values can be altered before and after each analysis.

Additionally, …

Mechanical Properties Of Low Carbon Martensite, Allen L. Affolter Jan 1971

Mechanical Properties Of Low Carbon Martensite, Allen L. Affolter

Masters Theses

"Steels of three different compositions were heat treated and tensile tested in order to determine their mechanical properties after heat treatment. All samples had near 0.20 per cent carbon and two manganese levels 0.90 per cent and 1.35 per cent. One group containing the higher manganese level also had small additions of columbium and vanadium. The specimens were too brittle in the as-quenched condition to be loaded to full strength. Maximum strength and ductility were found after short time tempering at low tempering temperatures -- 2 to 15 minutes at 200º to 300ºF. Higher strengths were found at the low …

The Effect Of Channel Errors In The Differential Pulse-Code-Modulation Transmission Of Sampled Imagery, Roger J. Arguello, Harvey R. Sellner, John A. Stuller Jan 1971

The Effect Of Channel Errors In The Differential Pulse-Code-Modulation Transmission Of Sampled Imagery, Roger J. Arguello, Harvey R. Sellner, John A. Stuller

Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

This Paper Presents an Analysis, Simulation, and Discussion of the Effects of Communication Errors on Four-Bit Differential Pulse-Code Modulation (DPCM) Sampled Imagery. Simulations Are Presented that Describe the Effects of Inserting Periodic "PCM Updates" in Order to Correct Communication Errors in the DPCM Transmission of Photographic Scenes that Have Been Scanned and Sampled at the Nyquist Rate. Maximum-Distance Linear Codes, Gary K. Maki, James H. Tracey Jan 1971

Maximum-Distance Linear Codes, Gary K. Maki, James H. Tracey

Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

Described here is a linear code that has a maximum distance between codewords of k for a code of order 2k. Since the minimum-maximum distance is k for a code of order 2k, a class of minimum-maximum distance codes results. For an (n,k) linear code, k ≤ n ≤ k + k∣2 for k even and k ≤ n ≤ k + (k - 1)/2 for k odd. Maximum-distance codes are found useful in encoding the states of sequential circuits. © 1971, IEEE.
