Fuel Burnup Simulation And Analysis Of The Missouri S&T Reactor, Joshua Hinkle Rhodes
Fuel Burnup Simulation And Analysis Of The Missouri S&T Reactor, Joshua Hinkle Rhodes
Masters Theses
"The purpose of this work is to simulate the fuel burnup of the Missouri S&T Reactor. This work was accomplished using the Monte Carlo software MCNP. The primary core configurations of MSTR were modeled and the power history was used to determine the input parameters for the burnup simulation. These simulations were run to determine the burnup for each fuel element used in the core of MSTR.
With these simulations, the new predicted isotopic compositions were added into the model. New core configurations were determined, and the burnup corrected model was used to predict the excess reactivity and control rod …
3d Dubins Curves For Multi-Vehicle Path Planning, Yiheng Wang
3d Dubins Curves For Multi-Vehicle Path Planning, Yiheng Wang
Masters Theses
"This thesis proposes a unified algorithm for target assignment and path planning in 3D space for multiple Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) to visit multiple targets. The multi-target assignment and path planning problem is modeled as a multiple Traveling Salesmen Problem (mTSP) and is usually solved by two separate algorithms: the multiple task assignment problem is first solved by the Genetic Algorithm (GA) using Euclidean distances between the targets; then the 3D path planning problem is solved for each assignment by selecting Dubins curves or other continuity curves. In contrast, this paper embeds the 3D Dubins curve selection into the target …
The Thermal Effects Of Daylighting In An Energy Efficient Home, Thomas Glenn Yarbrough Ii
The Thermal Effects Of Daylighting In An Energy Efficient Home, Thomas Glenn Yarbrough Ii
Masters Theses
"Current trends in building design and construction emphasize the use of natural daylighting to illuminate a building's interior. This study investigated the energy savings that could be obtained through the use of daylighting compared to additional heating and cooling loads attributed to the glazing required for daylighting. The study, through a combination of experimentation and computer model validation, aimed to determine energy saved from daylighting through illumination metering during a nine-month study period. Energy usage trends during this period were observed using circuit-level monitoring equipment. It was determined that, at select times of the year, energy used to account for …
Cyclic Axial Compression Behavior Of Concrete-Filled Hybrid Large Rupture Strain Frp Tubes, Monika Nain
Cyclic Axial Compression Behavior Of Concrete-Filled Hybrid Large Rupture Strain Frp Tubes, Monika Nain
Masters Theses
"This study introduces an experimental investigation of the behavior of concrete filled fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) tubes (CFFTs) under cyclic axial compression. The FRP used in this study were either small rupture strain FRP (SRS-FRP) or large rupture strain FRP (LRS-FRP). This paper also presents the first-ever experimental study on the behavior of concrete confined using hybrid LRS-FRP and SRS-FRP. LRS-FRP included PEN (polyethylene napthalate) and PET (polyethylene terephthalate) where both of them having ultimate axial strain larger than 5%, and low stiffness. SRP-FRP included carbon and glass FRP having small rupture strains, smaller than 2%, and high stiffness. The …
Multiscale Approaches Toward Advanced Lithium-Ion Battery: From Nano To Meso Scale, Susmita Sarkar
Multiscale Approaches Toward Advanced Lithium-Ion Battery: From Nano To Meso Scale, Susmita Sarkar
Masters Theses
“Battery performance and its degradation are determined by various aspects such as the transport of ions and electrons through heterogeneous internal structures composed of constituent particles, kinetic reactions at the interfaces, and a corresponding interplay between mechanical, chemical, and thermal responses. Further, modern battery materials require a variety of engineering processes such as coating, doping and mixing. As a result, in order to fully understand the behavior of the battery material and improve battery performance, it is necessary to understand and control the individual particle behavior and then connect it to the electrode. This study elucidated the physical phenomena associated …

First Search For Nontensorial Gravitational Waves From Known Pulsars, Benjamin P. Abbott, Marco Cavaglia, For Full List Of Authors, See Publisher's Website.
Physics Faculty Research & Creative Works
We present results from the first directed search for nontensorial gravitational waves. While general relativity allows for tensorial (plus and cross) modes only, a generic metric theory may, in principle, predict waves with up to six different polarizations. This analysis is sensitive to continuous signals of scalar, vector, or tensor polarizations, and does not rely on any specific theory of gravity. After searching data from the first observation run of the advanced LIGO detectors for signals at twice the rotational frequency of 200 known pulsars, we find no evidence of gravitational waves of any polarization. We report the first upper …
