This handwritten tax statement lists city and county taxes owed and paid in Attala County, Mississippi for 1885 by R. B. Webb, Sheriff and Tax Collector. Taxes were initially owed in the amount of one thousand, five hundred and ninety-one dollars and seventy-six cents. Credits are listed in the amount of eight hundred fifty-six dollars and twelve cents and payments listed at four hundred forty-six dollars and thirty cents leaving a total of two hundred sixty-six dollars and seventy-one cents due the county.

He goes on to update her on how busy work has been, the wellbeing of her mother, and the exposition they all attended. He advises her on what to look for should she also attend the exposition. He then describes what Christmas festivities have been happening, a job opportunity he's been offered and who of the family he's seen. The letter is written on Office of Chancery Court Clerk for Attala County letterhead.
