The image depicts well-dressed man admitting another man into a public house where substitutes are for sale. The entryway door has a sign posted that states substitutes are for sale and indicates that they are "ablebodied men." The substitutes include lower-class men, including black individuals. In the background hangs an "Honest Abe" poster.
