Identification And Quantification Of Allelochemicals Associated With Weed Suppression In Sweetpotato, Varsha Varsha
Identification And Quantification Of Allelochemicals Associated With Weed Suppression In Sweetpotato, Varsha Varsha
Theses and Dissertations
Mississippi ranks among the leading states in sweetpotato production in the US. However, managing weeds in sweetpotato fields presents a significant challenge, and the limited availability of herbicides labeled for use in sweetpotato makes it even more challenging. The widespread and repeated use of herbicides has led to the development of weed resistance. In addition, herbicides are incompatible with the organic production system. Finding sustainable weed management strategies to provide weed control options for organic cultivation and detain the development of herbicide-resistant weeds under conventional crop production is imperative. The natural chemicals released by the plants, also called allelochemicals, can …
Exact Solutions For Schrodinger And Gross-Pitaevskii Equations And Their Experimental Applications., Bhavika Bhalgamiya
Exact Solutions For Schrodinger And Gross-Pitaevskii Equations And Their Experimental Applications., Bhavika Bhalgamiya
Theses and Dissertations
A prescription is given to obtain some exact results for certain external potentials (r) of the time-independent Gross-Pitaevskii and Schrodinger equations. The study motivation is the ability to program (r) experimentally in cold atom Bose-Einstein condensates. Rather than derive wavefunctions that are solutions for a given (r), we ask which (r) will have a given pdf (probability density function) (r). Several examples in 1 dimension (1D), 2 dimensions (2D), and 3 dimensions (3D) are presented for well-known pdfs in the position space. Exact potentials with …
Understanding Vascular Calcification Through The Lens Of Canonical Wnt Signaling, Karlee Mcneel
Understanding Vascular Calcification Through The Lens Of Canonical Wnt Signaling, Karlee Mcneel
Theses and Dissertations
Every 37 seconds, someone in the United States dies from cardiovascular disease. Vascular calcification is one of the underlying causes of these fatal events. Medial calcification develops following arteriosclerosis, or hardening of the arteries. Medial calcification is characterized by the deposition of hydroxyapatite in the medial layer of the arteries after normal vascular smooth muscle cells undergo a phenotypic switch to resemble osteoblast-like cells. It is hypothesized that this switch is caused by the wingless related (WNT)-Signaling pathway. The WNT-Signaling pathway, upon activation, causes the upregulation of osteogenic markers for the development of osteoblast-like cells. Current treatments alleviate consequences of …
Evaluation Of The Relationship Between Hair Coat Shedding Ability, Apparent Forage Digestibility, And Mineral Status In Angus Cattle, Margaret P. Loftin
Evaluation Of The Relationship Between Hair Coat Shedding Ability, Apparent Forage Digestibility, And Mineral Status In Angus Cattle, Margaret P. Loftin
Theses and Dissertations
The objective of this study was to evaluate the relationship between hair coat shedding ability, apparent forage digestibility, and mineral status in Angus cattle. Fecal samples were collected on fall calving Angus cows for one week in March, May, and July from 2019-2022. Liver and plasma samples were collected in March and July each year. Fecal samples were analyzed for DM, ash, NDF, and ADF while liver and plasma were analyzed for mineral concentration. Data were analyzed using MIXED procedure of SAS with significance declared at P0.05. Interactions were detected for DM, NDF, ADF, and liver Fe concentration. The model …
Pruning Ghsom To Create An Explainable Intrusion Detection System, Thomas Michael Kirby
Pruning Ghsom To Create An Explainable Intrusion Detection System, Thomas Michael Kirby
Theses and Dissertations
Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) that provide high detection rates but are black boxes lead
to models that make predictions a security analyst cannot understand. Self-Organizing Maps
(SOMs) have been used to predict intrusion to a network, while also explaining predictions through
visualization and identifying significant features. However, they have not been able to compete with
the detection rates of black box models. Growing Hierarchical Self-Organizing Maps (GHSOMs)
have been used to obtain high detection rates on the NSL-KDD and CIC-IDS-2017 network traffic
datasets, but they neglect creating explanations or visualizations, which results in another black
box model.

Race, Gender, And Inheritance: The Experience Of Black Farmers In Mississippi, Gbenga Idowu Elufisan
Race, Gender, And Inheritance: The Experience Of Black Farmers In Mississippi, Gbenga Idowu Elufisan
Theses and Dissertations
The population of Black farmers in the U.S. has declined to 2% of farmers in the U.S. because of institutional racism, land dispossession, heir’s property, and youth’s disinterest in farming. Most works on Black farmers have focused on racism, and heirs’ property, but little is known about the influence of race, gender, and inheritance on Black farmers’ experience. To understand this, I asked: what are the contemporary challenges associated with farming among Black farmers in Mississippi? How do race, gender, and inheritance influence the experiences of Black farmers? And how do Black farmers cope with their farming challenges? Twenty farmers …
The Use Of Lidar To Measure Water Surface Elevations In Froude-Scaled Physical Hydraulic Models, Gary L. Bell
The Use Of Lidar To Measure Water Surface Elevations In Froude-Scaled Physical Hydraulic Models, Gary L. Bell
Theses and Dissertations
Light detection and ranging (LiDAR) instrumentation is becoming more diverse in our world of today. One challenge in scaled physical hydrodynamic models in a laboratory setting is obtaining high resolution water surface elevation data while maintaining accuracy requirements. Accurate water surface elevations are a primary parameter in hydraulic models as they are a means of controlling/monitoring the physical model’s boundary conditions, analyzing model experiment results, and informing model conclusions. This study focuses on laser scanners that have ranging accuracies of at least +/-10 millimeters (mm) or better for the purpose of attaining LiDAR water surface elevation measurements in scaled physical …
Examining Food Insecurity Among Mississippi Community College Students, Laura Jean Kerr
Examining Food Insecurity Among Mississippi Community College Students, Laura Jean Kerr
Theses and Dissertations
Food insecurity among postsecondary students and especially community colleges is a persistent social problem, but the prevalence continues despite much research. Postsecondary students experience food insecurity slightly differently from the general population and they are held to different rules to qualify for food support such as the supplemental nutrition assistance program (SNAP). In this research I examine the prevalence, frequency, and duration of food insecurity experiences among Mississippi community college students. I begin with a discussion of the literature of food insecurity and policy used to address food insecurity. I draw upon Bourdieu’s theory of social fields, capital, and habitus …
