Feasibility-Aware Deep Reinforcement Learning For Sustainable Timber Procurement Under Hurricane Demand Uncertainty, Jarod Wright May 2026

Feasibility-Aware Deep Reinforcement Learning For Sustainable Timber Procurement Under Hurricane Demand Uncertainty, Jarod Wright

Theses and Dissertations

The timber supply chain connects landowners and mills to provide wood products but faces challenges from stochastic demand, seasonal variations, and disruptions such as hurricanes. Fur- thermore, sustainability concerns like transportation emissions create trade-offs in procurement. This study proposes a feasibility-aware Deep Reinforcement Learning framework for sustainable timber procurement and inventory control under joint demand–hurricane uncertainty. We develop a stochastic mathematical model capturing mill-landowner interactions, seasonal demand, hurricane- driven pricing, and carbon emissions. The problem is formulated as a constrained Markov decision process and solved using Proximal Policy Optimization with a feasibility-enforcing layer. A Mississippi-based case study with 2,100 landowners …

Labeling And Describing Objects In A Photogrammetry-Based 3d Environment Using Computer Vision And Artificial Intelligence, Colin Donald Moschella May 2026

Labeling And Describing Objects In A Photogrammetry-Based 3d Environment Using Computer Vision And Artificial Intelligence, Colin Donald Moschella

Capstone Projects

Cataloging and digitizing the objects inside a building manually is a task that is often impractical at scale. This project therefore automates the process, using a custom-made system. Using a photogrammetry-based 3D reconstruction of a room, this system is applied to sequences of 2D images used to make the 3D models. The system applies object detection, image segmentation, and image-text models to identify and describe objects, using CNN based models such as YOLO and OpenCLIP. Each analyzed object is then stored in a structured database with spatial coordinates from the 3D scanning, descriptive attributes from the image-text models, and other …

A Low-Cost Motion Classification System For A Stuffed Animal Using An Imu And Machine Learning, Rachel N. Guynes

Honors Theses

One of the many fields that has seen the integration of robots is therapy. Zoomorphic robots (ZR) are designed to look and behave like animals to assist in Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT) practices. Studies show that ZRs can provide benefits similar to working with an actual animal; however, their high cost limits their accessibility. This thesis documents the process of building a real-time, low-cost motion classification system that can be attached to a stuffed animal to make it more interactive. Using a Random Forest (RF) classifier, the system identifies movements with approximately 81.67% accuracy.

Discovering The Genetics Underlying Speciation Traits In Heuchera (Coral Bells), Tajinder Singh Apr 2026

Discovering The Genetics Underlying Speciation Traits In Heuchera (Coral Bells), Tajinder Singh

Honors Theses

Hybridization is a key evolutionary mechanism for generating biological diversity, ultimately shaping diversification and adaptation of plant lineages in natural and agroecosystems.  Our understanding of the frequency, distribution, and significance of hybridization is rapidly increasing, but the external driving forces that dictate why certain species hybridize, and others do not remain obscure. The physical traits that shape gene flow and trait sharing among species are likely to be among the key factors that directly control hybridization. Gene flow in most plants is mediated by pollinating insects and thus by pollination syndromes, which are suites of floral traits that have evolved …
