Outcomes Of Building Parasocial Relationships Betweens Brands And Consumers On Social Media, Emily Ritchart
Outcomes Of Building Parasocial Relationships Betweens Brands And Consumers On Social Media, Emily Ritchart
LSU Master's Theses
Social media has fundamentally changed the way brands can communicate and interact with their consumers. By using a survey that asks participants to answer questions about a brand they follow on social media, this study explores the influence of different social media strategies on parasocial relationships and other positive outcomes for brands. Findings show that popular social media strategies of personalized messages, user-generated content, and use conversational/human tone can be used to predict higher levels of PSRs. Furthermore, these results show that brands who build PSRs with consumers can predict high levels of positive brand outcomes including higher positive trust, …
Assessing The Effect Time And Burial Environment Have On The Use Of The Lamendin Dental Age Estimation Method In Two Archaeological Samples From Jordan, Sabrina L. Williamson
Assessing The Effect Time And Burial Environment Have On The Use Of The Lamendin Dental Age Estimation Method In Two Archaeological Samples From Jordan, Sabrina L. Williamson
LSU Master's Theses
The Lamendin method is a dental age estimation method that can be used by biological anthropologists when the skeletal anatomy is not available. The Lamendin method utilizes an index derived from measurements of the tooth root height (RH), periodontal line height (PLH), and root transparency height (RTH) to estimate the age of an individual. Although this method is often used in forensic contexts, its presence in the bioarcheological literature is almost non-existent. Research that mentions the Lamendin method conflict about whether the method can be used in specimens with longer postmortem intervals (PMIs) and in various depositional environments. This study …
The Role Of Child Life Specialists In Transitioning Patients With Sickle Cell Disease From Pediatric Care To Adult Management, Amanda Ochiltree
The Role Of Child Life Specialists In Transitioning Patients With Sickle Cell Disease From Pediatric Care To Adult Management, Amanda Ochiltree
LSU Master's Theses
The transitional period when adolescents and young adults (AYA) no longer see pediatric specialists or pediatricians and transfer their care to adult health care providers is important for all but can be especially complex for AYAs with sickle cell disease (SCD). Disease-specific education, patient and family resources, and psychosocial care are important during the transitional period from adolescence to adulthood. Certified Child Life Specialists (CCLSs) are trained to provide developmentally appropriate preparation and education, psychosocial support, encouragement of emotional expression, and the opportunity to form trusting relationships with the medical care team (Romito et al., 2021). CCLSs work with the …
The Use Of Non-Immersive Virtual Reality As A Functional Rehabilitation Tool For Older Adults With Cognitive Decline, Ross M. Divers
The Use Of Non-Immersive Virtual Reality As A Functional Rehabilitation Tool For Older Adults With Cognitive Decline, Ross M. Divers
LSU Master's Theses
There is currently no cure for age-related cognitive decline or dementia and current pharmacologic interventions have had limited success at improving daily functioning. Consequently, older adults who experience cognitive decline require assistance with daily activities, which can be quite expensive and lead to caregiver burden. Repeated performance of everyday tasks has been shown to improve performance but requires supervision and direction by another person. The present study evaluated a low-cost computer training program that will use non-immersive virtual reality to enable participants with dementia or cognitive decline to independently practice meaningful everyday activities (e.g., meal preparation). Participants (N= 8) with …

Connections Between Interglacial Variation And Lithological Variability Within Midland Basin Permian Shale Rocks In Martin County, Texas, Helen Rice Hammon
Connections Between Interglacial Variation And Lithological Variability Within Midland Basin Permian Shale Rocks In Martin County, Texas, Helen Rice Hammon
LSU Master's Theses
The Upper Pennsylvanian (323.2–289.9 Ma) and Lower Permian (289.9-251 Ma), (Wolfcamp and Spraberry formations) interval of the Midland Basin, West Texas, contains a mixed succession of shale, carbonate, and siltstone/sandstone lithofacies that accumulated in a deep-water marine environment under variable hydrographic restrictions. The heterogenous stratigraphy found in the Wolfcamp and Spraberry formation was formed in response to variations in sea level and a transition from a glacial to an interglacial climate during the Early Permian. These fluctuations left behind alternating beds of mudstone and carbonate, interwoven with thin sandstone beds. Because the Wolfcamp and Spraberry formations are highly heterolithic, it …
Efficient Low Dimensional Representation Of Vector Gaussian Distributions, Md Mahmudul Hasan
Efficient Low Dimensional Representation Of Vector Gaussian Distributions, Md Mahmudul Hasan
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
This dissertation seeks to find optimal graphical tree model for low dimensional representation of vector Gaussian distributions. For a special case we assumed that the population co-variance matrix $\Sigma_x$ has an additional latent graphical constraint, namely, a latent star topology. We have found the Constrained Minimum Determinant Factor Analysis (CMDFA) and Constrained Minimum Trace Factor Analysis (CMTFA) decompositions of this special $\Sigma_x$ in connection with the operational meanings of the respective solutions. Characterizing the CMDFA solution of special $\Sigma_x$, according to the second interpretation of Wyner's common information, is equivalent to solving the source coding problem of finding the minimum …

Capuchins are platyrrhines (monkeys found in the Americas) within the Cebidae family. For most of their taxonomic history, the two main morphological types of capuchins, gracile (untufted) and robust (tufted), were assigned to a single genus, Cebus. Further, all tufted capuchins were assigned to a single species, Cebus apella, despite broad geographic ranges spanning Central and northern South America. In 2012, tufted capuchins were assigned to their genus, Sapajus, with eight currently recognized species and five Cebus species, although these numbers are still under debate. Alu retrotransposons are a class of mobile element insertion (MEI) widely used to study primate …
Exploring Cognitive Associations Of Athletes’ Activism Through Social Issue Primes: A Convergent Analysis, Anthony Ciaramella
Exploring Cognitive Associations Of Athletes’ Activism Through Social Issue Primes: A Convergent Analysis, Anthony Ciaramella
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
Contemporary athletes are using their platforms to discuss more social activism issues than ever before. This dissertation examines how attitudes and perceptions of activist athletes may differ based on the social activism issues they advocate for. Further, how different social activism issues may prime individuals to associate different gender and racial stereotypes to the athletes involved. To accomplish this goal, a mixed methods convergent approach was used to explore how certain social activism issues and athletes’ level of activism involvement alter perceptions of the issues and the athletes themselves. This approach combines findings from study 1, in-depth interviews with sports …

Rheology And Filtration Properties Of Bentonite-Water Suspensions As Influenced By Lignocellulosic Nanomaterials And Water-Soluble Biopolymer Additives, Meen Sung Koo, Sun Young Lee, Qinglin Wu
Faculty Publications
Stability, structural morphology, and rheological and filtration properties of bentonite (BT)-water suspensions as influenced by the addition of lignocellulosic nanomaterials, including bleached nanofibrillated cellulose (NFC) and lignin-containing NFC (LNFC), and water-soluble polymers (WSPs) were investigated in this work. The performance of the formed fluids varied with the distinct fiber morphology and/or chemical composition of the NFC and LNFC. The NFC helped bridge BT particles for enhanced rheological performance but adversely affected filtration properties by forming thicker filter cakes. Reground NFC led to improved rheological properties owing to more individualized fibers with an enlarged surface area, but its effect on fluid …

Hydrological Connectivity Between A Geographically Isolated Wetland And The Upper Floridan Aquifer, Nicholas Priehs
LSU Master's Theses
The Upper Floridan Aquifer is the primary source of freshwater for the majority of the southeastern United States. Increased stress on the Upper Floridan Aquifer due to irrigation has resulted in questions about the sustainability of the aquifer. Baker County, Georgia, has a high density of geographically isolated wetlands and of center pivot irrigation wells that are used to meet the demand for irrigation water. These wetlands respond to changes in precipitation and evapotranspiration, in the water level in surface streams, and in the water level of the Upper Floridan Aquifer. Understanding how the response of the wetlands has changed …

The Influence Of Clutter On Target Prevalence And Decision Making During Visual Search, Brandon Eich
The Influence Of Clutter On Target Prevalence And Decision Making During Visual Search, Brandon Eich
LSU Master's Theses
Participants are sensitive to target prevalence effects in visual search. Low prevalence of targets leads to increased miss rates and shorter response times, and high prevalence of targets leads to increased false alarm rates and longer response times. These effects have been explained using the Multiple-Decision Model (MDM), in which two decisions impact performance during serial visual search. The first decision is whether an inspected item is a target. The second decision is whether the search should be ended with a target-absent response. Target prevalence influences these decisions, evidenced by changes in miss rate, false alarm rate, and response time. …

General Feature Extraction For Process Monitoring Using Transfer Learning Approaches, Wenbo Zhu, Jinhong Zhang, Jose Romagnoli
Faculty Publications
Data-driven methods have been widely used in process monitoring and fault detection areas. Despite that, most of these data-driven approaches are extremely specific, where the developed models can only be applied in the given process with the selected variables. The lack of generalization potentially limits its applications. This work mainly focuses on developing a model with better generalization ability and transferability for process data analytics. We proposed a transitional invariant feature extraction method using convolutional neural networks, which can learn features regardless of the size or sequence of the input. Such an approach allows the transfer learning so that the …

Examining The Relationship Between Functionally Assessed Parental Behavior And Child Anxiety, Allison Smith
LSU Master's Theses
Etiological theories of child anxiety suggest an interaction of multiple factors that lead to the development and maintenance of child anxiety. Environmental influence, specifically that involving the family or parent, has been a target area of study for decades. Additionally, functional assessment of behavior indicates that certain behaviors may be maintained primarily by specific functions. Functional assessment has been successful at identifying functions of problematic behavior and planning treatment accordingly. However, in the realm of child internalizing disorders, research has not utilized functional assessment in this way. Acknowledging the impact of parental behavior on child anxiety as well as the …

Analysis Of Briquetage (Brine-Boiling Pots) At Paynes Creek Salt Works: Implications For Classic Maya Salt Production, Rianna Bowen
LSU Master's Theses
Abstract
The Classic Maya period (A.D. 300-900) is characterized by large urban centers, distinct material culture, and long-distance trade of both utilitarian and elite goods. The rise in population during this time created a necessity for essential, everyday goods, to move along these trade routes; one of which was salt. Additionally, much of the production of utilitarian goods was occurring outside of urban centers and political control at smaller, specialized production locales. The Paynes Creek Salt Works in southern Belize was one of these specialized production locales. The number of salt works located in the Punta Ycacos lagoon suggests salt …
