Land Treatment Of Menhaden Waste Water By Overland Flow, Mark Meo

From April through August 1974, menhaden processing waste water from an industrial plant near Dulac, Louisiana was partially reclaimed using land treatment by overland flow. The waste was pumped from a primary treatment pond after screening and was spray-discharged at a rate of 5.08 cm (2 in) per week onto a naturally vegetated spoil bank of clay soil material (6 percent slope, 30 m long). The effluent flowed unevenly through the plant cover and litter layer. The effluent, with total organic carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus concentrations of 800, 600, and 50 mg/1, respectively, was purified by the action of the …

This thesis contains a general overview of the glass industry in Jeannette, Pennsylvania, from its beginnings to the present. After discussing the reasons for the establishment of the industry in this part of Western Pennsylvania in the latter part of the nineteenth century, it gives a relatively brief history of each of the companies which were established in Jeannette. It discusses the founding of each company, the construction of its physical plant, the specific products manufactured, the machines and technology of manufacturing, the labor force and working conditions in the plants, and changes in management and ownership personnel and forms. …

Tchefuncte Subsistence Patterns: Morton Shell Mound, Iberia Parish, Louisiana, Kathleen Mary Byrd

The Tchefuncte culture (300 B.C. – A.D. 300), the local manifestation of the Early Woodland Tradition, was originally defined by ceramic types and today is generally viewed in terms of phases based to a large part on varieties of the original pottery types. Although the original report included a faunal list, no detailed study of the subsistence pattern of the Tchefuncte peoples has ever been published.

At the Morton Shell Mound, the excellent preservation in a peat deposit uncovered in one of the excavation units provided an excellent opportunity to study the subsistence aspect of the Tchefuncte people. In the …

Knowledge of the Racah algebra for the higher unitary groups is exploited to give a general formula for the partial widths for the direct product subgroup U( N k)× U(k) of the full unitary group U(N) of a given shell model vector space. This formula makes it possible to separate the second moments of dynamical operators into the internal and external parts which are needed for detailed applications of the spectral distribution technique. Specific applications are made for k = 2 (isospin) and k = 4 (Wigner supermultiplet symmetry). Explicit expressions are given for the isospin breaking contributions to the …
