Improved Selectivity And Stability In Methane Dry Reforming By Atomic Layer Deposition Onto Ni-Ceo2-Zro2/Al2o3 Catalysts, Jonathan Lucas
Improved Selectivity And Stability In Methane Dry Reforming By Atomic Layer Deposition Onto Ni-Ceo2-Zro2/Al2o3 Catalysts, Jonathan Lucas
LSU Master's Theses
The use of Ni in the dry reforming of methane (DRM) has been widely studied as a replacement for noble metal catalysts (Pt, Pd, Rh) due to Ni’s low cost compared to noble metals, its abundance, and the fact that its DRM activity is near that of noble metal catalysts. However, Ni has been shown to deactivate quickly under DRM conditions. Rare earth oxides such as CeO2, or as CeO2-ZrO2 (CZO) are supports that improve both the activity and stability of Ni DRM systems due to their redox activity. However, this same activity is thought …
Louisiana Resident Perceptions On Invasive Aquatic Plant Species And Their Management, Anna Ribbeck
Louisiana Resident Perceptions On Invasive Aquatic Plant Species And Their Management, Anna Ribbeck
LSU Master's Theses
Determining the public perception of invasive species in Louisiana is an important tool to help shape and develop future management decisions, educational material and ultimately public policy. Therefore, the primary purpose of this study was to determine the perceptions of adult Louisiana residents regarding invasive aquatic plant species and their management. An online survey was used to collect data on registered Louisiana residential boaters’ perceptions towards invasive aquatic plants and their management. A postcard with a quick response code leading to the survey was mailed to 6,000 randomly selected Louisiana registered residential boaters. Of the 230 Louisiana registered boaters that …
The Function Of Transport Protein Mfl1 In Arabidopsis Thaliana, Joseph Qian
The Function Of Transport Protein Mfl1 In Arabidopsis Thaliana, Joseph Qian
LSU Master's Theses
Photosynthesis serves as the primary process for plants to synthesize ATP and sugar molecules, however, this reaction requires many cofactors such as heme, plastoquinone, and iron-sulfur clusters to assist in energy gathering and electron transfer steps. Many of these require trace metals, such as iron, to cross across the chloroplast membranes and be incorporated into proteins and other organic molecules to form useable cofactors. The light-independent reactions of photosynthesis are also inefficient, with up to 25% of the photosynthetic energy wasted to metabolize the toxic waste product glycolate. The cellular logistics of both photorespiration and iron transport have been studied, …
Recombinant Dna Vaccine Design As A Potential Strategy Against Bovine Foot And Mouth Disease Virus (Fmdv), Taylor Haynie
Recombinant Dna Vaccine Design As A Potential Strategy Against Bovine Foot And Mouth Disease Virus (Fmdv), Taylor Haynie
LSU Master's Theses
Foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV) is the causative agent for foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) that infects primarily cloven-hoofed animals, the majority of which are domesticated cattle and other important livestock. FMD is highly transmissible and found in all secretions and excretions of infected animals. North America, Europe, and Australia have successfully eradicated the virus with the help of a well-defined fiscal infrastructure and access to successful control measures. Less developed regions, including many Asian and African countries, have maintained an endemic status for decades. African territories are of particular concern because of the indigenous African Buffalo population that serves as an important …

An Examination Of Relationships Between Ear-Playing Skills And Intonation Skills Of High School And College-Aged Wind Instrumentalists, Ben Michael Herrick
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
Playing by ear and the ability to play in tune are components of musicianship that rely heavily on the ability to successfully discriminate musical pitches. Connections between ear-playing and intonation performance have rarely been addressed. The purpose of this study was to investigate relationships between intonation performance and ear-playing skills of high school and college-aged wind instrumentalists. Research questions were: (1) What is the relationship between the ability to play by ear and intonation performance? (2) How does intonation ability differ when the participants sightread notation compared to performing music that was learned by ear? (3) Do differences appear in …

Effect Of Uv-C Light Against Listeria Monocytogenes On Hydroponically Grown Lettuce And Its Effect On Quality, Ivannova Lituma
LSU Master's Theses
Controlled agriculture environments like hydroponic systems are a growing industry. However, studies have shown potential of microbial growth in hydroponic systems, highlighting the need for decontamination techniques to prevent the risk of foodborne diseases. This study evaluated the effect of UV-C light against Listeria monocytogenes on hydroponically grown lettuce and seeds. Lettuce leaves were spot inoculated (100μL) with Listeria monocytogenes cocktail and exposed to UV-C light (0.28mW/cm2) for 10 to 50 seconds in 10-second increments and 1 to 5 minutes in 1- minute increments. UV treated leaves were stored at 4C° and visually inspected for 5 days. Additionally, the smooth …
Cable Decoupling And Cable-Based Stiffening Of Continuum Robots, Parsa Molaei
Cable Decoupling And Cable-Based Stiffening Of Continuum Robots, Parsa Molaei
LSU Master's Theses
Cable-driven continuum robots, which are robots with a continuously flexible backbone and no identifiable joints that are actuated by cables, have shown great potential for many applications in unstructured, uncertain environments. However, the standard design for a cable-driven continuum robot segment, which bends a continuous backbone along a circular arc, has many compliant modes of deformation which are uncontrolled, and which may result in buckling or other undesirable behaviors if not ameliorated. In this study, a detailed approach for using additional cables to selectively stiffen planar cable-driven robots without substantial coupling to the actuating cables is investigated. A mechanics-based model …

Optimal growth and development in childhood and adolescence is crucial for lifelong health and well-being1–6. Here we used data from 2,325 population-based studies, with measurements of height and weight from 71 million participants, to report the height and body-mass index (BMI) of children and adolescents aged 5–19 years on the basis of rural and urban place of residence in 200 countries and territories from 1990 to 2020. In 1990, children and adolescents residing in cities were taller than their rural counterparts in all but a few high-income countries. By 2020, the urban height advantage became smaller in most …

The adsorption of organic aromatic molecules, namely aniline, onto graphene oxide is investigated using molecular simulations. The effect of the oxidation level of the graphene oxide sheet as well as the presence of two different halide salts, sodium chloride and sodium iodide, were examined. The aniline molecule in the more-reduced graphene oxide case, in the absence of added salt, showed a slightly greater affinity for the graphene oxide-water interface as compared to the oxidized form. The presence of the iodide ion increased the affinity of the aniline molecule in the reduced case but had the opposite effect for the more-oxidized …

The Perceptions, Experiences, And Stories Of Tied-Migrant Music Educators: How The Personal And Professional Blend, Rachel K. Broyles
LSU Master's Theses
Centering around the purpose of examining the lived experiences and perspectives of self-identified tied-migrant music educators and how the transitory aspects of their personal lives impact their professional careers, this phenomenological case study discusses the findings of both a review of literature and completed original research utilizing two participants who are tied-migrant spouses in the music education field and examine their stories. For this study, tied- migrant spouses are defined as persons who are married to individuals who frequently relocate due to their professional occupation (Mincer, 1978). Participants include tied-migrant military spouses and tied-migrant civilian spouses.
