Activist Advertising: Case Studies Of United Colors Of Benetton's Aids -Related Company Promotion., Heidi Jolene Brough
LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
This study explores how advertising and company promotion may be used to address social issues. In particular, I examine how the clothing company United Colors of Benetton attempted to position itself within the AIDS crisis. Specifically, this study investigates through case studies how the Benetton Group used activist advertising and company promotion to bring about social change concerning AIDS-related issues. I also attempt to account for the controversy that the promotion elicited through establishing the anomalous status of the company's promotion within traditional advertising efforts. The study begins with information concerning the AIDS crisis and AIDS activism and then moves …
Regional Differences In Understanding Between Two Groups Of High School Science Students On A Complex Environmental Science Concept Known As The Dead Zone Of The Gulf Of Mexico: A Web -Based Approach., Sharon Ann Flanagan
LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
The main research focus of this study was on the regional differences in understanding of two groups of high school science students for a complex environmental scientific phenomenon known as the Dead Zone of the Gulf of Mexico. Participating high school students were drawn from Dead Zone source and effect areas---Iowa chemistry students and Louisiana environmental science students. Students were given a pre- and postinstructional survey concerning environmental issues---including the issue of the Dead Zone or hypoxia of the Gulf of Mexico. The treatment group visited a web site on the Dead Zone constructed for this study, and interacted with …

A Comparison Of Language And Graphic Products Of Students From Kindergarten Classrooms Differing In Developmental Appropriateness Of Instruction., Jean Germany Mosley
LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
This study examines the ways in which kindergartners from more and less developmentally appropriate classrooms negotiate the process of graphic communication. Both quantitative and qualitative aspects of this process are examined. Eighty-one kindergarten children from four classrooms were asked to tell a story both verbally and graphically. They were encouraged to include drawing, writing, or both on their paper. Then they were asked to tell the story that they had produced graphically. The children were students in one of four classrooms from a single school system that were identified as: (a) most developmentally appropriate beliefs and practices; (b) developmentally appropriate …
A Program Visualization System That Supports The Program Understanding Process., Brady R. Rimes
A Program Visualization System That Supports The Program Understanding Process., Brady R. Rimes
LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
The goal of this research is to provide a graphical system that supports the program understanding process by representing the program's control flow, the code and the identifiers local to a specific point within the program. By having more information local to the point of interest, the programmer can maintain continuity in developing program understanding. The programmer can see loops, procedure calls, and other structures with respect to their execution order and can view them in the environment or the context in which they will execute. The Peec system supplies a graphical representation of the program's control flow in which …
The Effects Of Widescreen Television On Local And National Newscaster Credibility: An Experimental Study., Donald Ray Mott
The Effects Of Widescreen Television On Local And National Newscaster Credibility: An Experimental Study., Donald Ray Mott
LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
The purpose of this study was to determine if there were any perceived differences in credibility between the widescreen television treatment, standard screen treatment and national and local newscasters. The data revealed no significant differences as a result of the widescreen television treatment. In addition, no significant main effects were observed between the newscaster treatments, "local" and "national," suggesting that as a group, viewers do not appear to have any predispositional attitudes dependent upon specific criteria toward the credibility of either type of newscaster. The design of the experiment was a classic 2 x 2 factorial design. The stimulus was …
