The Effects Of A Structured And Unstructured Kindergarten Program On The Readiness Scores Of Children In Selected Public Schools In Lafayette Parish, Louisiana., Mary Coletta Mcdonough Newkome
LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
The major purpose of this study was to determine if there was a significant difference in readiness test scores between students who participated in a structured kindergarten program and those who participated in an unstructured program. This investigation also sought to examine the achievement of students relative to certain variables, such as morning and afternoon session, race, sex, preschool attendance, French spoken in the home, place of residence, birth order, and father's years of education. The relationship of variables to test scores was studied in terms of the total population of kindergarten children, as well as in terms of the …

An Experimental Study To Determine The Effects Of Dissimilar Emotional Inducements And Communication Skill Levels On The Meanings Given Communicated Messages., Charles Donald Porterfield
LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
The purpose of the study was to determine experimentally what effects, if any, two key within-receiver characteristics would have on the meanings communicated messages had for the respondents. The within-receiver characteristics were the emotional states of mind and communication skill levels of the test subjects. The study hypothesized that: 1. The meanings given communicated messages by subjects receiving dissimilar emotional inducements would vary significantly. 2. The meanings given communicated messages by subjects with different communication skill levels would vary significantly. 3. There would be a significant interaction effect of the dissimilar emotional inducements and communication skill levels of the subjects …

The Role And Role-Performance Of Members Of County Extension Advisory Committees As Perceived By Selected Committee Members And County Extension Directors In Florida., William Carlton Smith Jr
The Role And Role-Performance Of Members Of County Extension Advisory Committees As Perceived By Selected Committee Members And County Extension Directors In Florida., William Carlton Smith Jr
LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
The purpose of this study was to investigate Florida County Extension Directors* and county Extension advisory committee members* perception of the roles and role performance of county Extension advisory committees. This purpose evolved from Extension personnel experiencing varying degrees of success in the committee approach to Extension program development. It was felt that this could be due to a lack of common understanding by Extension agents and committee members of the roles and functions of advisory committees. Two, similar but separate, mail questionnaires were sent to the County Extension Directors and 303 members of the over-all Extension advisory committee in …
One-Electron And Two-Electron Atoms In Strong Magnetic Fields And Implications For Magnetic White Dwarfs And Pulsars., Garabed Leon Surmelian
One-Electron And Two-Electron Atoms In Strong Magnetic Fields And Implications For Magnetic White Dwarfs And Pulsars., Garabed Leon Surmelian
LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
We present a variational calculation, using Slater-type trial wavefunctions of the energy spectrum and ionization energy of the hydrogen atom in strong magnetic fields ranging from 10^ Gauss (typical of magnetic white dwarf surfaces) to 10 12 Gauss (typical of pulsar surfaces). In addition, we have calculated bound-bound transition probabilities. Furthermore, a method is developed to generalize the energy level results to any one-electron atom. In particular, results for He 11 are presented. We also present an exact calculation of the quadratic Zeeman wavelength displacements of the Balmer lines from DA white dwarfs in view of which the estimate of …
Electron-Impact Induced Fine-Structure Transitions In Atomic Oxygen., Balkrishna Ramchandra Tambe
Electron-Impact Induced Fine-Structure Transitions In Atomic Oxygen., Balkrishna Ramchandra Tambe
LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
Calculations of cross-sections for the excitation of 3 fine structure levels of the ground P state of atomic oxygen by electron-impact in the energy range 500-15000°K are made in the close-coupling approximation. It is shown that above 3000°K, the exact-resonance approximation can be used to obtain quite reliable results. In this range polarization effects can be incorporated by use of pseudostates. The convergence of the close-coupling expansion has been tested by adding more terms belonging to the same configuration as well as pseudo-states. The effect of using a multi-configuration wave function was examined. Results are presented for a two-configuration wave …
The Rhetoric Of Physicians: A Field Study Of Communication With Colleagues And Patients., Artie Yvonne Adams Thrash
The Rhetoric Of Physicians: A Field Study Of Communication With Colleagues And Patients., Artie Yvonne Adams Thrash
LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
The purpose of this field study is to provide a descriptive analysis of the rhetoric of physicians (1) as they communicate with their colleagues, and (2) as they communicate with their patients. To obtain the first objective the oral presentations made during weekly conferences by the surgeons at a major hospital were observed for ten a>nths. The physicians' rhetorical training, experience, speech philosophy, and preparation are considered as well as the occasion of the speeches and an analysis of the audience. The speeches are evaluated according to their invention, structure, style, and delivery. The second objective of the study, …
The Accounting Aspects Of Corporate Social Responsibility., Manuel Atendido Tipgos
The Accounting Aspects Of Corporate Social Responsibility., Manuel Atendido Tipgos
LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
After an impr ssive discussion of the problems relating to the accounting and reporting aspects of corporate social acti vities, the 1972 Comnittee on Environmental Effects of Organization Behavior of the American Accounting Association recommended that the accountants should not attempt to measure and report the total social costs of damage to the environment resulting from organi zational behavior. The Committee cited several reasons to support the above reconmendation. The major proposal of this study runs counter to the Comnittee's recormr ndation. It proposes that immediate attention from the accounting profession is necessary to account for and report on the …

The Portrayal Of Women In Selected Short Stories By Eudora Welty. (Volumes I And Ii)., Philip Allen Tapley
The Portrayal Of Women In Selected Short Stories By Eudora Welty. (Volumes I And Ii)., Philip Allen Tapley
LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
Although Eudora Welty is a literary artist noted for her feminine approach, she is not a feminist. "In writing fiction," she says, "I think imagination comes ahead of sex." Most of the selections in her short-story volumes portray women characters, however, usually from points of view which focus upon the experiences of women from their particular angles of vision. Her women range from the young girl in "A Visit of Charity" to the aged Phoenix in "A Worn Path." This study examines Miss Welty's portrayal of women, their roles and conflicts, an aspect of her fiction that has received comparatively …
