Homosexualities: A Study Of Types., D'Lane Sally Miller
Homosexualities: A Study Of Types., D'Lane Sally Miller
LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
With 102 male homosexual and 12 male heterosexual Ss, this study explored the possibility that a typology of homosexuality could be developed using an expanded definition of homosexuality. Proposed dimensions were the variables: gender identity, social sex role, sexual orientation, overt sexual behaviors, current psychological status, and parent-child relations. Ss were recruited by a variety of methods and demographic characteristics suggest a fairly heterogeneous sample was obtained. Scores obtained from a battery of six tests were factor analyzed using an oblique (promax) rotation. Eight factors were obtained and factor pattern scores were used in two hierarchical cluster analysis methods (Johnson, …

A Study On Teacher Morale At A Selected Secondary School., Mark Fickie
LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
The intent of the study was to investigate the morale of teachers in a selected south Louisiana secondary school. Four null hypotheses were proposed and tested to identify the effect of a change of facility upon the entire group of teachers; male and female teachers; teachers under the age of thirty-seven and those who were thirty-seven years of age or older; and teachers having bachelors degrees and teachers with higher degrees that moved to a new school plant. All forty-three teachers (N = 43) employed at a selected secondary school participated in the experiment. Of that total, nineteen teachers moved …
Patterns Of Development Of Independent Oil Companies In Louisiana: An Exploratory Study Into The Strategic Changes Of Growing Companies., David Lester Duhon
Patterns Of Development Of Independent Oil Companies In Louisiana: An Exploratory Study Into The Strategic Changes Of Growing Companies., David Lester Duhon
LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
This study was conducted to gain additional knowledge about the process of change as entrepreneurships in the oil industry grow and develop. Thirty independent operators comprised the sample. The owner/manager of each firm was questioned at length about the growth of his company. Particular attention was given to identifying the relative stage of development of each firm. This was determined by analyzing the strategic characteristics identified in the literature as descriptive of stages of development. The evidence seriously questions the applicability of the stages of development model for these companies. The data strongly suggests that growth is a more gradual …
The Processing Of Experience And The Evaluation Of The Self In Depressed And Nondepressed Females., Patricia Anne Bowers Hunter
The Processing Of Experience And The Evaluation Of The Self In Depressed And Nondepressed Females., Patricia Anne Bowers Hunter
LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
The hypotheses derived from Beck's theory that depressed individuals "minimize the positive" and "maximize the negative" were investigated using a series of positive and negative imaginary interpersonal situations. Fifty-two depressed and nondepressed college females responded to the imagined situations by rating their self-esteem and mood at three time intervals. Results showed that depressed subjects maintained lower levels of self-esteem and mood across all three measurements yet were less adversely affected with exposure to the negative situations than were nondepressed subjects. Additionally, depressed subjects showed a greater enhancement effect from the positive imagined experience even while maintaining lower levels of self-esteem …

Second-Language Acquisition And The Development Of Pragmatic Code Selection Skills., Rebecca Ann Marcon
LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
Language samples and nonverbal behavior of 50 children attending bilingual Kindergarten programs were recorded from children's conversations with a puppet on three separate occasions. In order to determine the influence of the listener's language on children's code selection, the puppet spoke a different language on each occasion. Of particular interest was the extent to which children would make pragmatic adjustments in their verbal and nonverbal language codes in response to different listener needs. Differences in code selection which could be attributed to variation in second language proficiency were explored by contrasting the behavior of children classified as monolingual, limited second …

Some Singular Measures On The Circle Which Improve L('P) Spaces., David Lawrence Ritter
Some Singular Measures On The Circle Which Improve L('P) Spaces., David Lawrence Ritter
LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
Let (mu) be a positive Borel measure on the circle group T. If, for P (GREATERTHEQ) 1, there is a q > p such that (mu) defines a bounded convolution operator from L('p)(T) to L('q)(T), then (mu) is L('p)-improving or (mu) improves L('p). Here a result of Oberlin is extended. It is shown that a large class of Cantor-Lebesgue measures improve L('p)(T) for p > 1. Also, for the members of a particular sequence of Lebesgue measures associated with some homogeneous Cantor sets, which includes the middle-third Cantor-Lebesgue measure studied by Oberlin, estimates are obtained for the amount of improvement. These results …
The Austrian Problem Of Language And Peter Handke: A Documentation., Donald Russell Bailey
The Austrian Problem Of Language And Peter Handke: A Documentation., Donald Russell Bailey
LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
Linguistic skepticism and the resultant awareness of the limits of language can be traced back to Hamann, Herder, and Humboldt, through Romanticism and French Symbolism, up to modern times. What has come to be called the crisis of language (Sprachkrise) can be viewed as one segment of a broader, multi-media phenomenon. The intensity of this crisis is concentrated in Austro-Hungary in the waning days of the Habsburg Monarchy. From this time forward supersensitivity to language remains a strongly Austrian phenomenon and can be followed through the European, German-language, and Austrian movements of this century, up to the founding of the …

Remarque's 'Weltanschauung': A Study In Fictional Dualism., Ingrid Ehrmann Gross
Remarque's 'Weltanschauung': A Study In Fictional Dualism., Ingrid Ehrmann Gross
LSU Historical Dissertations and Theses
The objective of this study was to examine Remarque's Weltanschauung as expressed through his novels. Remarque sees the world negatively when he regards it as a whole. This all-encompassing world, the macrocosm, is defined by two basic factors: the evil side of man's nature, and the existence of death. The world, as Remarque views it, is not ruled according to a divine plan but is a world of man's own making. Because man has been unable to keep in check his tendencies for committing evil, he has brought about the events which characterize the first half of the twentieth century: …
