The Challenges Of Persisting First Generation College Students: A Comparison Between Students With Trio Support And Those Without, Claudean Kizart
The Challenges Of Persisting First Generation College Students: A Comparison Between Students With Trio Support And Those Without, Claudean Kizart
Dissertations
This qualitative study examined first generation college students who persisted towards completing baccalaureate degrees with and without the assistance of TRIO, a federally funded program that assisted first-generation college students with obtaining baccalaureate degree. The researcher gathered empirical data through conducting semi-structured, one-on-one interviews with 20 first-generation students from two universities who were beyond their first year of college and possessed a 2.0 or higher grade point average (GPA). Interviews were retrospective, as all students were upper-class college students who completed at least one year of college at one of two four-year universities. It was important to the study design …

Blanche Dubois: Feminist Forerunner, Andrea M. Grey
Blanche Dubois: Feminist Forerunner, Andrea M. Grey
Theses
Andrea M. Grey’s thesis, Blanche Dubois: Feminist Forerunner, explores Blanche Dubois from Tennessee Williams’ A Streetcar Named Desire as a proto-feminist figure. Challenging traditional interpretations of Blanche as merely fragile or delusional, Grey argues that Blanche exhibits traits of modern feminism, advocating for female independence, financial self-sufficiency, and resistance to patriarchal oppression.
Blanche’s education, career as a teacher, and efforts to manage her family’s estate position her as an independent woman in a male-dominated world. However, societal constraints and gendered double standards undermine her agency. Her sexual autonomy is condemned while her male counterparts’ indiscretions are ignored. Blanche’s opposition …

Playing The Prince Of Cats: A Retrospective On The Process Of Being Tybalt In Romeo And Juliet, Andrew J. Weber
Playing The Prince Of Cats: A Retrospective On The Process Of Being Tybalt In Romeo And Juliet, Andrew J. Weber
Theses
Acting as the major antagonist for the first half of William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, Tybalt Capulet provides a unique challenge for an actor. The character's rage easily threatens to be static unless the actor can find appropriate justifications for his actions. Facing difficulty with limited textual background information, a performer undertaking the role must develop Tybalt's sense of self by drawing not only from Shakespeare's work, but also from the setting chosen by the director. This thesis examines how the character of Tybalt was developed to fit an adaptation of the play set during the Hatfield and McCoy feud …
Directing Jason Robert Brown's The Last Five Years In An Educational Theatre Environment, Philip J. Gill
Directing Jason Robert Brown's The Last Five Years In An Educational Theatre Environment, Philip J. Gill
Theses
This thesis explores the process of directing Jason Robert Brown’s musical The Last Five Years in an educational theatre setting. The author, Philip J. Gill, documents his approach to staging this complex, two-character show, which presents a unique narrative structure—one character moves forward in time while the other moves backward. Gill discusses his directorial vision, emphasizing the importance of time, musical transitions, and abstract staging to enhance the storytelling. He details the audition and casting process, highlighting challenges such as selecting actors who could meet the vocal and emotional demands of the roles.
The thesis also examines the collaboration with …
