Developing A Plan To Disciple International Students, Donald E. Bader

A current literature review demonstrates that only a limited amount of information is available for missionaries striving to disciple international students attending universities throughout the United States. Therefore, this project attempts to develop a discipleship plan based firmly upon Scripture, focusing particularly on the life and teachings of Jesus as an essential resource for international student ministry. Incorporating these insights, along with the suggestions from discipleship literature and campus missionaries, the plan presents a biblical approach to discipleship that specifically applies to international student ministry in Milwaukee. We will look at the available statistics, investigate the causes, read testimonies of those who have been forced out and look at plans for recovery. Few things affect the entire world, and HIV/AIDS is one of them. While the whole world is affected by this terrible disease, the area of sub-Sahara Africa has been affected the most with large quantities now suffering because of HIV/AIDS. Children have become major sufferers of HIV/AIDS, both from having the disease passed on to them and from being orphaned as parents die of AIDS. When numbers are combined, four countries alone in sub-Sahara Africa have together over 660,000 children with HIV/AIDS and over four million orphans. A Linguistic And Exegetical Analysis Of Ephesians 4.8-9 From A Grammatical, Syntactical, Contextual, And Historical Perspective, Jay R. Hamilton

Ephesians 4.8-9 presents a challenging passage exegetically. The reference to Psalm 68.18 is ambiguous; it may picture Moses receiving the Torah or a king conquering an enemy army. Furthermore, Ephesians 4.9 is so closely linked to Ephesians 4.8 that one cannot validly interpret “the lower parts of the earth” (τα κατωτερα μερη της γης) from verse 9 without determining the meaning of the preceding verse. Therefore, Ephesians 4.8-9 is analyzed grammatically, contextually, and historically, in order to find the most likely interpretation for this particular passage. The study concludes that Paul in Ephesians 4.8 pictures a Davidic king conquering an …

Walter Russell Mead places this volume (which builds on Special Providence) into the context of the ideological and theological debates that have shaped American history. Like Michael Oakeshott and various conservatives, Mead depicts the contemporary world as the outworking of a “modern temper” or an “Enlightenment project,” two phases of which he focuses on: Fordism (resembling Lewis Mumford’s modern megamachine) and millennial capitalism. Mead’s identification of several competing schools of thought or dispositions in chapter six is somewhat comparable to earlier “models of historical interpretation,” such as Daniel Elazar’s three American “political cultures” and David Hackett Fischer’s four “British folkways” …

In the Western tradition, wars were typically fought between uniformed armies on a public battlefield. Even in the Twentieth Century, wars were largely fought between state-sponsored armies, who wore uniforms that made them legitimate targets by distinguishing them from the surrounding civilian population. Civilians, so long as they refrained from military-type actions, were generally considered to be unlawful targets. Though there were borderline cases, and certainly abuses of the system, for the most part the exceptions only reinforced the accepted standard. Confusion runs rampant when it comes to certain theological issues such as the descent of Christ in Ephesians 4:9. Over the centuries, three main interpretations have arisen to explain this enigmatic text. The possible interpretations are that the descent was the Descensus ad Infernos during which Christ visited hell during the three days that He was dead, that the descent was the Incarnation of Christ, or that the descent was the coming of Christ as the Spirit at Pentecost to give spiritual gifts to the believers.

Between the years 1759 and 1769, Laurence Sterne published a hugely popular and widely controversial work, The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman. One aspect of this "shaggy dog" story is to address the ambiguity and imprecision of language as a system of communication. Communication (or lack of) occurs throughout the piece both between the characters and between the narrating voice of Tristram and the "constructed" reader. American war reporting today, specifically in the Iraq War, differs in many ways from past American military conflicts - not only in technology available to reporters, but in today's reporting philosophies. This thesis maintains that, for war reporters, "objective coverage" is essentially impossible. To support this claim, the thesis examines war reporting historically in the Vietnam War, the Persian Gulf War, and the Iraq War. The thesis also studies the oft-tumultuous relationship between the troops and the press and analyzes the struggles of war correspondents in maintaining objectivity as they dealt with internal conflict and external censorship.

Music and place are two phenomena that have been objectified by researchers in the past. This thesis treats both as social processes created by subjects in local, specific contexts. The Kalinga peace pact system forms an intricate web of bilateral agreements between forty or more culture groups in the northern Philippines. Each agreement is celebrated when it is formed or when a peace pact holder from one group passes the responsibility on to his son. In The West and the Rest, Scruton examines the clash between two civilizations: Islam and the West. He contrasts the dynamic, highly institutionalized, but increasingly decadent secular legal tradition of the West, which promotes such ideas as citizenship, corporate personality, and territorial jurisdiction, with the backward-looking but unified vision of a universal community associated with the Koran. One thing that troubles the relationship of these two civilizations today is a crisis of confidence in the West, which has produced a nihilistic, self-condemning “culture of repudiation.” This countercultural solvent has been infiltrating the flood of cultural byproducts of the West that …
