Theoretical Foundations Of African And Western Worldviews And Their Relationship To Christian Theologizing: An Akamba Case Study, Jones Kaleli
Faculty Dissertations
The purpose of this dissertation is to investigate the theoretical foundations of African and western worldviews and their relationship to Christian theologizing. The dissertation seeks to contend two propositions: (1) Christian theology results from the disciplined reflection on God's biblical revelation by the believing hermeneutical community, and (2) a disciplined hermeneutic reflection on God's Word can best be done within the context of a people's worldview. The study adopts both a diachronic and a microcosmic approach to Christian theologizing in contemporary Africa, i.e. a non-generalizing Christian theologizing method that confines itself to a specific people, their culture and worldview. Thus, …

Measuring Quality Church Growth, Fred H. Smith
Measuring Quality Church Growth, Fred H. Smith
Faculty Dissertations
A criticism often heard concerning the Church Growth movement is that it emphasizes quantity growth to the supposed neglect of quality growth. One explanation for this neglect is that presently there exists no effective instrument by which quality growth in a church can be measured. The absence of such a measuring instrument can be attributed to many reasons. Some of the problems inherent in developing such an instrument are: 1) the fact that the universalness of a measuring tool is limited by . denominational barriers; 2) the issues of "judging." subjectivity, commitment, and the "quality vs. quantity" debate; 3) what …

The Effects Of A Home-Based, Audio Cassettee Marriage Enrichment Course On Marital Communication And Marital Adjustment, Larry D. Anderson
Faculty Dissertations
This study investigated the effects of a home-based, audio cassette marriage enrichment course on marital communication and marital adjustment. The marriage enrichment course evaluated in this study consisted of two audio cassette tapes, each containing two sessions of approximately 45 minutes in length, and one work booklet. The course contained exercises emphasizing the development of communication skills, encouragement of self-disclosure, learning of empathy skills, and the setting of personal and mutual goals. The unique aspects of the course were the home-based setting in which the couples completed the program, and the self-enclosed audio cassette nature of the course.

Self-Monitoring Of Cursive Writing Skills In A Second Grade Normal Classroom: Differential Effects Of Behavioral And Academic Monitoring Requirements, Kim Charles Snyder
Self-Monitoring Of Cursive Writing Skills In A Second Grade Normal Classroom: Differential Effects Of Behavioral And Academic Monitoring Requirements, Kim Charles Snyder
Masters Theses
This study was designed to assess the contributions and differential abilities of two types of self-monitoring interventions (academic and behavioral) in securing immediate and sustained (generalizable) increases in academic productivity. Fifteen second grade children participated in a study in which the experimental groups were required to either monitor on-task behavior or the component skills of a cursive writing task. While academic increases were demonstrated by both of the experimental groups during treatment, the study clearly demonstrated that academic self-monitoring was superior to behavioral self-monitoring in producing immediate and sustained academic results without the aid of reinforcement.
