The Makings Of An Ep: From Silence To Portable Sounds, Emily Ream
The Makings Of An Ep: From Silence To Portable Sounds, Emily Ream
Senior Honors Theses
The creation of an EP is a process that requires skills in multiple areas. Once, creating an EP was only available to those who garnered resources and support from a record label. However, an increasing number of aspiring musicians are writing, recording, and making their music available for download or purchase without the assistance of a record label. Doing this successfully and excellently requires application of knowledge in areas such as literature, theology (for Christian artists), music theory, music technology, and marketing. This thesis will describe one process used to turn inspiration into a tangible product that one can purchase …
Support Experiences Of Church-Going Christian Foster And Adoptive Families Of Children With Special Needs, Taylor Weaver
Support Experiences Of Church-Going Christian Foster And Adoptive Families Of Children With Special Needs, Taylor Weaver
Senior Honors Theses
Much research is done on the populations of families of children with special needs, church-going Christian families, and foster and adoptive families, but little exists on the families who fall into all three categories. This thesis seeks to help remedy this problem by studying the support experiences of these families. Existing research on foster and adoptive families, families with special needs, and disability in the church is reviewed. A phenomenological study of five parents’ lived experiences was completed through interviews, where three main themes emerged: the importance of informal support, the need for formal support, and the integral role of …
An Original Play Next Door: Domestic Abuse Addressed In The Theatre, Esther E. Karram
An Original Play Next Door: Domestic Abuse Addressed In The Theatre, Esther E. Karram
Senior Honors Theses
This creative thesis assesses how the theatre has addressed domestic violence in various shows such as Waitress and A Streetcar Named Desire. In this paper, the reality of abusive relationships and the victims who are trapped in them is examined, and the subject is addressed in an excerpt of the original two-act play entitled Next Door. Next Door is a domestic drama that hopes to represent accurately an abusive relationship and its complexities through the relationship of Anna and John and also seeks to portray the struggle of those on the outside who wish to help.
Resiliency And Well-Being As Moderators Of Stress, Alexis Pietruszka
Resiliency And Well-Being As Moderators Of Stress, Alexis Pietruszka
Senior Honors Theses
College students experience a great deal of stress as they prepare for the transition from adolescence to adulthood. Furthermore, the ability to navigate stress and anxiety is challenged due to underdeveloped resiliency skills. Resiliency and well-being can act as a coping technique in building hope, commitment, accountability, and passion. The measurement of these factors can be an indication of how a person responds to stressful events or feelings. The study expected to see an interaction of resiliency as an overall moderator in the perception of stress based on actual stress level. The High Capacity Model of Resiliency Scale (H-CAP) was …
Cerebrovascular Accident Survival: Strategies Of Flight Nursing And Aeromedical Transport, Alexis Caudle
Cerebrovascular Accident Survival: Strategies Of Flight Nursing And Aeromedical Transport, Alexis Caudle
Senior Honors Theses
Cerebrovascular accidents (CVA), known as strokes, are a leading cause of death worldwide. The delivery and timing of treatment for CVAs is a critical factor in restoring health to the patient. One of the variables in recovery is the method of transport used in bringing the patient to a health care facility. Aeromedical transport remains a valuable resource to achieve full recovery in stroke patients. An ongoing debate of risk versus benefit of helicopter emergency services will be included as well as examination of variables including location, time, physiology of the flight, and the patient’s condition to be scrutinized. In …
The Subprime Mortgage Collapse And Its Effects On The Economy, Joseph Krmpotich
The Subprime Mortgage Collapse And Its Effects On The Economy, Joseph Krmpotich
Senior Honors Theses
The subprime mortgage crisis occurred due to a number of factors. Included in these factors were the issuance of subprime loans, the securitization of mortgages in the investment banking system, and the deregulation and ultimate failure of the shadow banking system. These causes were evident in both historical trends in the stock market as well as the macroeconomic data leading into the crash. They were perpetuated by investors, mortgage brokers, and banks taking on an abnormal amount of risk in the early 2000s for both psychological and behavioral reasons. These causes, while less than obvious at the time, have, with …
Embracing Uncertainty: Evaluating The Traditional Christian Approach To Transgenderism, Samuel C. Myers
Embracing Uncertainty: Evaluating The Traditional Christian Approach To Transgenderism, Samuel C. Myers
Senior Honors Theses
The transgender movement has posed an ethical problem for societies around the world, and has forced Christian communities to reconsider traditional conceptions of gender, sex, and what makes someone a man or woman. The conventional approach that most evangelical Christian communities have adopted towards individuals who experience incongruence between their gender identity and physical sex characteristics has been to condemn cross-gender living. To equip Christians to consider the morality of transgenderism most effectively, this study begins by defining key terms, and provides a brief survey of some of the scientific and medical background issues surrounding this discussion. We then examine …
Multidisciplinary Approaches To The Treatment Of Bariatric Patients, Hannah Plasterer
Multidisciplinary Approaches To The Treatment Of Bariatric Patients, Hannah Plasterer
Senior Honors Theses
Bariatric care focuses on the treatment and prevention of obesity as a chronic disease. It encompasses a wide range of obesity interventions from diet and exercise to weight loss surgery. Due to the continuing rise in obesity, all health care professionals will encounter bariatric patients, and thus, it is important for all health-care professionals to be aware of bariatric considerations. There are many negative implications to increased obesity that affect both physical and psychological health. This thesis will present the rise and rates of obesity in America today, along with the health risks and morbidity statistics for those who fall …
An Analysis Of Perceptions Of Dropout Factors And Interventions By Middle School And High School Teachers In A Southeastern School District, Christopher Kennedy
An Analysis Of Perceptions Of Dropout Factors And Interventions By Middle School And High School Teachers In A Southeastern School District, Christopher Kennedy
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Although graduation rates are increasing in the United States, high school dropouts remain an issue of significant concern. Much of the focus of research in this area has been on describing the characteristics of dropouts rather than on developing effective interventions. Moreover, emerging research shows that potential dropouts can be identified with confidence as early as the sixth grade. High school is the time in which dropouts are typically identified and interventions begun, but the seeds of dropping out are often planted well before ninth grade. This survey research study with quantitative analysis used an instrument titled Teacher Perceptions of …

All data used in this study was archival data found on the Virginia Department of Education website. A review of the literature revealed there have been many studies conducted on the effects of parental involvement on …
Factors That Predict Persistence For Non-Immigrant, International Students At A Private, Four-Year University In Georgia, Shawn Adams
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this study was to explore factors that predict the persistence of international, non-immigrant students in higher education. A sample of international students from a four-year private university in Georgia served as the focused population for this study. Persistence research asserts that six factors predict persistence: academic integration, social integration, support services satisfaction, degree commitment, institutional commitment, and academic conscientiousness. These six predictor variables were measured via the College Persistence Questionnaire (CPQ). However, cultural intelligence (CQ) is another predictive factor that merited consideration for the unique population of international students. The Cultural Intelligence Scale (CQS) quantifies CQ and …
