National Football League (NFL) players have sustained concussions while playing football (Casson & Viano, 2010). Family members of current and past NFL players claim league officials provided inadequate education regarding risks associated with playing professional football. Former players are experiencing health issues such as dementia, early Alzheimer's, chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), trouble concentrating and inability to work; in some cases these debilitating life-changing events have …

Idealism And Pragmatism In The Rhetoric Of John Boehner: A Weaverian Analysis Of Congressional Discourse, Cody Hawley

Masters Theses

American political rhetoric is characterized by a synthesis of contradictory idealistic and pragmatic elements, both of which are necessary if there is to be convincing persuasion. The way in which politicians rhetorically approach this dichotomy is significant, however, current studies on the topic are limited to presidential discourse. There is little research on this topic in other settings such the United States House of Representatives. This criticism analyzes John Boehner's congressional rhetoric in the idealistic-pragmatic dichotomy. The critical method utilized is Richard Weaver's four forms of argument-genus, similitude, consequence, and circumstance. Eight speeches of John Boehner, four from his position …

Epigenetic Remodeling In An Imr-32 Cell Line And Transgenic Mouse Model Of Alzheimer's Disease, Matthew S. Baker

Senior Honors Theses

The pathological features of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) have been researched and documented extensively, however the causes of these features are still unknown. The following studies sought to determine if epigenetic methylation alterations contribute to AD. Two studies were sequentially carried out, first using an IMR-32 model and then using a transgenic mouse model overexpressing beta-amyloid. A few assay and confirmation methods were carried out to determine the promoter regions in disease state models undergoing drastic change, and the genes linked to these promoter regions were analyzed to determine significant gene ontology being altered by this epigenetic modification. Making Disciples Of Jesus Christ: Investigating, Identifying And Implementing An Effective Discipleship System, Jeffrey Lynn

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

According to George Barna's research, the current state of making disciples of Jesus Christ who are "observing all that I have commanded you" is dismal. This author believes what we have in place for making disciples is inadequate, unimplemented, or both. The purpose of this thesis project is to explain the current state of spiritual formation in the American Church and the reasons why it falls short of God's desire …

The Toronto Blessing: Key To Evaluating Recent Revivals, Jordan Ballard Apr 2014

The Toronto Blessing: Key To Evaluating Recent Revivals, Jordan Ballard

2014-2016 Graduate

The charismatic revivals of recent decades have sparked as much controversy as they have revival fires. Pentecostal and charismatic churches generally embraced the revivals at Toronto (1994), Pensacola (1995-2000), Lakeland (2008), and Mobile (2010) as genuine works of the Holy Spirit, but non-charismatic Christians are often unsure of what to think. On the one hand, Christians do not want to be so gullible that they believe any miracle report or legitimize any manifestation as authentic. On the other hand, Christians do not want to attribute the work of the Holy Spirit to the flesh or to the devil. Evaluating any …
