The Application Of Continuous Stationary Phase Gradients To High-Performance Liquid Chromatography And Its Potential To Improve Pharmacological Research, Hannah Klose Apr 2023

The Application Of Continuous Stationary Phase Gradients To High-Performance Liquid Chromatography And Its Potential To Improve Pharmacological Research, Hannah Klose

Senior Honors Theses

The separation of mixtures into different components is integral to experimentation and analysis in a multitude of fields. Chromatography is one of the most popular, well-developed, and well-studied methods used to examine the makeup of a mixture. Thus, the improvement of chromatographic procedures directly benefits research across many scientific disciplines. The application of a continuous stationary phase gradient to High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) methods has been proposed to improve the separation of complex mixtures that are difficult to achieve with existing separation techniques. By incorporating a gradient stationary phase, analysts will create a more selective mode of separation to improve …

Understanding Political Success: Unethical But Effective Political Leadership, Madison Richmond Apr 2023

Understanding Political Success: Unethical But Effective Political Leadership, Madison Richmond

Senior Honors Theses

This research answers the question of how unethical people can still manage to be effective political leaders. To understand the implications of rhetoric in political leadership, the research presents artifacts and sources from those impacted or influenced by such leadership. Adolf Hitler’s ethical values, traits, leadership style, use of rhetorical devices and communication theories, and his most famous speech will be analyzed to aid in understanding how he packaged evil ideologies in such an appealing and believable manner. The findings from the research support the claim that successful political leadership is influenced by the use of rhetoric, leadership styles and …

How Personal Reponsibility Can Empower The Marriage Relationship, Emmanuelle Sawyer Apr 2023

How Personal Reponsibility Can Empower The Marriage Relationship, Emmanuelle Sawyer

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

The researcher created a seven-step ‘What Makes Marriage Work’ personal responsibility framework, that is an empowerment tool used for couples coached at E. Sawyer Coaching. The researcher presented the seven-step framework to seven married/previously married persons, to determine their perception of the merit of the seven-step framework. This framework was presented with the hypothesis that if couples at E. Sawyer Coaching understood the power of personal responsibility, they would experience marriage vitality and restoration as a result. As it stands, in current marriage related research, personal responsibility is not a key tool of emphasis surrounding marriage support and empowerment. This …

Higher Education During Crisis: A Phenomenological Study Of Educator Perceptions On Their Transition To Online Education During The Covid-19 Pandemic, Carrie Smith Curtis Apr 2023

Higher Education During Crisis: A Phenomenological Study Of Educator Perceptions On Their Transition To Online Education During The Covid-19 Pandemic, Carrie Smith Curtis

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

The purpose of this hermeneutic phenomenological study is to describe the experience of higher education faculty during the crisis-response transition to online learning as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. By gaining a perspective of the experiences of faculty during this crisis experienced during the 2020-2021 academic year, valuable insight can be gained for higher education institutions on how to better prepare for future crises. Phenomenology allows the participant’s perspectives to be treated as complete truth and analyzed from multiple vantage points through horizontalization. This study uses Transition Theory to draw conclusions about the adaptability of faculty without prior experience …

Examining Administrators' Perceived Influence Of Social Media On Adolescent School Discipline: A Transcendental Phenomenological Study, Stephanie N. Cox Apr 2023

Examining Administrators' Perceived Influence Of Social Media On Adolescent School Discipline: A Transcendental Phenomenological Study, Stephanie N. Cox

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

The purpose of this transcendental phenomenological study was to understand middle and high school administrators’ perceived influence of social media on school discipline and student behavior in southeastern Virginia. Bandura’s social cognitive theory and Skinner’s behavioral theory of operant conditioning guided this study and provided the theoretical framework for learning through observation and reinforcement. Twelve middle and high school administrators participated in this study and shared their administrative experiences regarding social media and its perceived influence on student discipline and behavior in their respective schools. The central question guiding this research study was the following: What are the experiences of …

Law Enforcement Cardiovascular Health: A Qualitative Study On Law Enforcement Officers' Risk Awareness And The Targeted Mitigation Of Cardiovascular Disease, Gretchen Sue Harvey Lapp Apr 2023

Law Enforcement Cardiovascular Health: A Qualitative Study On Law Enforcement Officers' Risk Awareness And The Targeted Mitigation Of Cardiovascular Disease, Gretchen Sue Harvey Lapp

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

Cardiovascular disease-related deaths and injuries are prevalent among law enforcement officers (Han et al., 2017; Keeler et al., 2021), with attribution pointing to the strong associations between the inherent stressors of police work directly impacting the psychological and physical health of police officers (Santa Maria et al., 2018; Violanti et al., 2017). As such, several researchers have studied the associations between police officers' perceptions of stress and the presence of cardiovascular disease risk factors. However, there is a current gap in the literature on information examining the relationship between law enforcement officers' cardiovascular disease risk perceptions and their utilized health …
