Action Crisis Intervention Response, Dwayne Pine
Action Crisis Intervention Response, Dwayne Pine
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Establishing a peer-to-peer mental health intervention program for healthcare workers at Henry Mayo Hospital is imperative for addressing stress, anxiety, depression, job burnout, and compassion fatigue. The growing mental health crisis among healthcare workers, leading to a significant number leaving the industry due to lack of support from management, underscores the urgency of this initiative. This action research project emphasizes the need for such a program in conjunction with the established Mental Health First Aid. While the latter provides tools to recognize a mental health crisis, it lacks holistic approaches to aid healthcare workers in immediate crisis mode. The project …

Incorporating Aaron Copland's Philosophy Of Inclusion In Midwest Rural Band Programs: A Qualitative Study Of Attracting And Retaining Students Of Low Socioeconomic Status, Jonathan, S. Laflamme
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The field of music education has established the value of instrumental band music instruction as congruent with students’ intellectual, kinesthetic, psychological, and academic success. However, one should scrutinize the validity of the above data, as it addresses issues concerning access to instrumental music education that persist within underserved populations, particularly those characterized by low socioeconomic status (SES) in rural Midwest America. Researchers have synthesized very little data specifically to address the needs of Midwest rural schools and underserved student populations. This qualitative study explores the effects of applying Aaron Copland’s philosophy of inclusion, specifically regarding students of low SES, in …

Building Our Future, King Randall
Building Our Future, King Randall
Liberty University Law Review
Law reviews and other legal journals serve an important role in the legal field. The discussions we host, the scholarship we publish, the ideas we consider, and the positions we advance are the future of the law. Law’s future may defer to its history. It may correct its past sins. It may, in the course of the American experiment, make new mistakes that will challenge and educate the next generation. In many ways, legal journals are the anvils upon which scholars forge the law’s future. For that reason, legal scholarship often has a reputation among academics as an important and …

Sacrificing Our Children At The Altar Of Modern K-12 Public Education, Rena M. Lindevaldsen
Liberty University Law Review
Should publicly-funded K-12 education continue to exist? At first blush, it might seem a radical question to even ask. But when public schools are failing in their essential purposes, we need to explore whether to cease funding them. From their inception, public schools had at least two essential purposes: to train students in those values essential to participating in society and, as the saying goes, teaching reading, writing, and arithmetic.
This Article will highlight the ways in which public schools are failing to achieve these two basic goals. First, public schools are failing academically. Scores on standardized tests continue to …

To Track Or Not To Track: The Privacy Dilemma And The Veil Of Consumer Choice, Amber L. Solberg
Liberty University Law Review
Technology has contributed to rapid yet fundamental changes in the way society functions—but the information revolution is just getting started. Ubiquitous, distributed, and interconnected computational power and massive data storage, coupled with human ingenuity and entrepreneurship, have led to profound impacts on society, changing the way we live, work, and interact with each other. However, these rapid advances have given rise to new legal challenges and upended the balance between the interests of corporations and consumers regarding privacy, ownership of personal data, and fundamental concepts of intellectual property. As multi-billion-dollar corporations thrive by monetizing personal data, existing legal frameworks struggle …

Internet Frisking Jurors During Voir Dire: The Case For Imposing Judicial Limitations, Hannah L. Shotton
Liberty University Law Review
Our nation has long recognized the need for a fair and impartial jury in civil and criminal cases. At the heart of this pursuit for fairness is the juror, who sits as the factfinder in the process. For centuries, voir dire has served as the backbone for providing parties with a fair and impartial jury. Traditionally, during voir dire, jurors are questioned under oath by the court or counsel to determine their qualifications or disqualifications to sit as a juror in the case. The purpose is to expose potential bias in a juror that would render him or her unable …
