Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this transcendental phenomenological study was to explore the lived experience and perceptions adapting to the process of college-level education for African international students at a four-year college in the southeastern United States. The theory that guided this study was Berry’s acculturation theory, which categorizes individual adaptation strategies into two dimensions. This study was guided by acculturation theory aligned with the central research question and sub-questions. Participants who completed their studies or were current students at the university were selected through purposeful and snowball sampling. Data was collected through individual interviews, online surveys, and focus groups and analyzed …

Theory Informed Audit And Feedback To Decrease Medication Administration Errors, Victoria Martin
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Medication administration errors remain a serious and preventable cause of morbidity and mortality in health care. Technology at the point of care is often bypassed in the medication administration process despite the intention to prevent adverse drug events through the addition of a layer of cross-checks and alerts. The purpose of this project was to understand if human behavior could be influenced using effective audit and feedback, data transparency, and communication tactics to decrease administration-related errors, such as wrong patient, wrong medication, wrong dose, and adverse drug events, with the use of barcode medication administration (BCMA) in the emergency department. …

Four Steps That Ended The West And One To Revive It, David Goodwin
Liberty University Law Review
Our goal for the 2024 Liberty University Law Review Symposium was to explore the case for educational freedom from multiple angles. While several of our other authors have focused on the proper role of parents and the civil government in education, those approaches represent only part of the American education system. Many of our articles are more poignantly focused on the legal aspects that this topic implicates, but Mr. David Goodwin provides a slightly different perspective. Mr. Goodwin is a seasoned educator, intellectual, author, and an advocate for Classical Christian schools.
He has written a book—a New York Times Best …

Something To Hold On To: Judicial Independence As An Antidote To The Dissent’S Institutional Integrity Concerns In Dobbs V. Jackson Women’S Health Organization, Teddy Breece Paisley Iii
Liberty University Law Review
Today’s legal and political landscape places heavy emphasis on the decisions handed down by nine illustrious jurists—the sitting Justices of the Supreme Court of the United States. These decisions, like the Justices themselves, are often characterized as purely political. From left and right, accusations of partisanship and judicial activism hurtle toward the Court with increasing velocity and regularity. On June 6, 2022, the Court released one of the most significant and controversial decisions in its history when it overruled Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood of Southeastern Pennsylvania v. Casey in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, holding that …

However, these rapid advances have given rise to new legal challenges and upended the balance between the interests of corporations and consumers regarding privacy, ownership of personal data, and fundamental concepts of intellectual property. As multi-billion-dollar corporations thrive by monetizing personal data, existing legal frameworks struggle …

Internet Frisking Jurors During Voir Dire: The Case For Imposing Judicial Limitations, Hannah L. Shotton
Liberty University Law Review
Our nation has long recognized the need for a fair and impartial jury in civil and criminal cases. At the heart of this pursuit for fairness is the juror, who sits as the factfinder in the process. Traditionally, during voir dire, jurors are questioned under oath by the court or counsel to determine their qualifications or disqualifications to sit as a juror in the case. The purpose is to expose potential bias in a juror that would render him or her unable …

A Quantitative Survey Exploring The Types Of Internet Accessible Mental Health Resources Recognized By U.S. Long-Haul Truck Drivers, Cristal Angela Reyna
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Long-haul truck drivers (LHTDs) are an important part of the supply chain in the United States. Their work schedules include holidays, weekends, night shifts, and can last anywhere from 60–70 hours for a single 6- to 8-day run to meet the demands of society. Poor work–life balance, high job demands, and poor sleep quality that can be experienced on the job as an LHTD can negatively affect not only their physical health but also their mental health. Depression, anxiety, and stress are three psychological effects that can develop from an unhealthy lifestyle and inability to maintain any healthcare appointments, despite …
