Evaluating The Agreement Between Body Composition Measures With Changes In Hydration Status, Holt A. Schadler, Bret M. Schadler, Alexis Lewis
Symposium of Student Scholars
Purpose: Dual-energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DEXA) and InBody (IB) machines are commonly used in research to measure body composition. We sought to evaluate the agreement of these two devices with a change in hydration status. Methods: Twenty-Three (12 females) (mean ± SD; age, 22.6 ± 2.3yrs; height, 169.1 ± 9.2cm; weight, 80.4 ± 35.03 kg) participants were recruited for a hydration intervention study. Each participant collected their urine over a 24-hr period to assess osmolality (UOSMO) and volume (UVOL), as well as body composition assessments using DEXA and IB before (PRE) and after (POST) the intervention. Body composition variables included Fat …

The Influence Of Relative Back Squat Strength On Countermovement Jump Performance In College-Aged Males, Holt A. Schadler, Bret M. Schadler, Jacob Grazer
Symposium of Student Scholars
Purpose: Countermovement Jump (CMJ) performance can provide insight into the force production capabilities relative to the individuals ability during a dynamic task. In conjunction with power output during a CMJ, few investigations have looked to identify the influence of relative strength on these types of tasks. This research aims to establish a link between the relative strength (RS) of an athlete and CMJ performance in jump height (JH) and force production values that were surveyed. Methods: Seventeen males (mean ± SD; age, 23.2 ± 3.8yrs; height, 1.78, ± 6.10m; weight, 84.8 ± 13.2kg) were recruited for this study. Each participant …

Atlantic Marketing Association Student Proceedings
Formula 1 (F1) has grown exponentially in popularity with American audiences in the past several years, in large part by deploying modern marketing practices that are reshaping the perspective of motorsport in the U.S. Marketing experts have credited this growth to marketing practices such as the launch of a Netflix docuseries, “Drive to Survive,” which offers a dramatized retelling of the season and grants viewers a behind the scenes glimpse of the sport. As a next step, F1 is funding a major motion picture named for the sport starring Brad Pitt. Despite evidence that these practices have benefitted F1, other …

Atlantic Marketing Journal
Recently, nation branding has drawn the attention of policymakers worldwide, as nations recognize its strategic importance in achieving and sustaining success in the global competitive landscape. This study provides a conceptual framework based on master brand and sub-brand architecture to examine country branding holistically by integrating macro and micro perspectives, country brand equity, and their effects on consumer preferences. The specific objectives are to 1) identify the dimensions of master brand, sub-brand, and country brand equity and develop reliable and valid measurement scales for each dimension, and 2) develop a conceptual framework that integrates the master brand, sub-brand, and brand …

Background: Multifrequency bioelectrical impedance devices such as the InBody 770 (IB770) offer faster measurements and lower costs compared with other body composition assessments. This study validated measures from IB770 against the deuterium oxide dilution technique (D2O) and DXA and compared a four-compartment (4C) model using total body water (TBW) derived from IB770 compared with D2O. Methods: A total of 55 adult females (mean ± SD, age: 21.1 ± 2.6 years) completed IB770 and DXA scans and the D2O protocol. Lin’s concordance correlation coefficients (CCCs), Bland–Altman analyses, and other equivalence tests evaluated agreement between IB770 and the criterion for measures of …

Henley, Ashley Hines, Kristyn C. Mcgeehan, Wysmark Chaves, Wil King, Tiffany A. Esmat, John R. Mclester, Jacob L. Grazer
Faculty Articles
Background: High-intensity functional training (HIFT) varies daily workout programming, and trainees are often tasked with completing “as many repetitions as possible” (AMRAP) within a set time. Successful performance depends on fatigue management skills and maintaining a consistent expression of force and velocity when performing and transitioning between exercises over the duration of the workout. Multi-ingredient preworkout (MIPS) supplement formulations often contain ingredients shown to facilitate energy availability and mitigate fatigue, and therefore, might positively affect HIFT performance. This study aimed to assess a multi-ingredient pre-workout supplement’s acute effect on pacing and the expression of kinetics throughout a 5- and 15-minute …
Agreement Between Methods For Describing The Intensity Of A High Intensity Functional Training Workout, James W. Henley
Agreement Between Methods For Describing The Intensity Of A High Intensity Functional Training Workout, James W. Henley
Master's Theses
This study examined whether a speed-based metric, expressed as percent of maximal speed (%MS), could serve as a practical and accurate method for quantifying intensity in high-intensity functional training (HIFT). Traditional intensity markers—heart rate (HR), blood lactate concentration ([La-]), and rating of perceived exertion (RPE)—were compared to %MS during low- and high-volume (LV, HV) workouts using a combination of correlation and agreement analyses. Twelve males and twelve females completed a baseline assessment followed by two experimental workout sessions. Participants wore HR monitors, provided pre- and post-exercise [La-] samples and RPE scores, and performed maximal speed tests for each workout movement. …

Comparing Crawling Development In Children With Limb Loss/Limb Difference To Typically Developing Children, Larissa Brehm, Analise Oliver, Maya Tulchinsky, Diana Mansouri, Mark Daniel Geil
Symposium of Student Scholars
The CDC removed crawling as a milestone for children developing as of 2022[1], due to insufficient data and definitions. The purpose of this study was to collect data using a pressure mat and quadrupedal gait software on infant crawling patterns in children with limb loss or limb difference (LLD) and typically developing (TD) children in order to understand both how children with LLD crawl, and which parameters detect differences. The data collected was then converted into measurable outcomes such as cadence, velocity, weight distribution, and stance support.
The long-term objective of this study is to understand the quantitative parameters that …

Effect Of Volume On Pacing During High Intensity Functional Training, Haja Kabba, Caralynn Doese, James Henley, Kristyn Mcgeehan, Wil King, Gerald Mangine
Symposium of Student Scholars
Each high-intensity functional training (HIFT) workout may vary its structural design, incorporate different exercises, and prescribe different intensities and volumes. This creates infinite possible combinations, and with so many dynamic factors, it is unclear how each change alters how one completes a workout. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of altering volume only on HIFT pacing. Ten men and nine women (27.0 ± 7.6 yrs, 173 ± 8 cm, 79.3 ± 11.0 kg) with ≥6 months of HIFT experience completed two experimental workouts that differed in volume. Participants completed five rounds of power cleans (men: 52.2 …

Relationship Between Fluid Intake, Hydration Status And Cortisol Dynamics In Healthy, Young Adult Males, Mitchell E. Zaplatosch, Laurie Wideman, Jessica Mcneil, Jesse Sims, William M. Adams
Faculty Articles
Background: Previous studies have identified links between fluid intake, hydration related hormones and cortisol measured at one timepoint but have not considered how hydration may influence cortisol dynamics throughout the day. This study assessed associations between hydration status (copeptin, urinary osmolality, urine volume) and habitual fluid intake with cortisol dynamics.
Methods: The day before (DB) a 6-h laboratory visit, 29 male participants (age, 23±4y; BMI, 25.5 ± 4.3 kg/m2; body fat, 17.3 ± 9.3 %) provided 24-h urine samples and a fasted blood sample for hydration status assessment, recorded their 24-h fluid intake for three days prior, and provided 10 …
The Cost Of A Playing Surface: Artificial Turf Versus Natural Grass, Tyler Whitaker
The Cost Of A Playing Surface: Artificial Turf Versus Natural Grass, Tyler Whitaker
Emerging Writers
The debate between whether artificial grass or natural grass is better has recently gained popularity among sports advocates and athletes. The immediate explanation for this surge of popularity can be indicated by the increased concerns regarding environmental conservation, health concerns, and growing costs. Previous research has shown that the choice between the two surfaces often depends on specific needs and preferences, each having their own unique advantages and disadvantages. Natural grass is often portrayed as being the safest option when it comes to playing because of its longevity in use and other factors. This has contributed to the overall discussion …
Age Segmentation In The Life Coaching Industry: A Needs-Based Approach, Timothy Reisenwitz
Age Segmentation In The Life Coaching Industry: A Needs-Based Approach, Timothy Reisenwitz
Atlantic Marketing Journal
Life coaching is the second-fastest-growing industry in the world. Most previous research has used a results-based approach with relatively small sample sizes. The current research uses a needs-based approach to identify whether older or younger consumers are better candidates for a life coaching session or program. A hard-copy questionnaire used existing scales based on industry indicators to identify viable life-coaching clients. A multivariate analysis of covariance (MANCOVA) was used to analyze the data, with gender as the covariate or moderating variable. Results showed that younger consumers are generally better candidates for life coaching, while gender was only significant for one …
