Comprehensive Plan To Promote Equity, Inclusion, And Anti-Racism At Illinois State University, October 2020, Illinois State University
Master Plan
This report represents a 12-month overview of benchmark accomplishments and plans currently underway to further promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism at Illinois State University. The report is organized by “priority action items” that were developed to address concerns raised by student representatives from #AntiBlackISU and other campus constituencies. Those action items focus on policy and practice changes that increase student access to culturally responsive resources and services, best practice strategies to close the opportunity gap among underrepresented students, and strategies to recruit and retain diverse faculty and staff at Illinois State University.
It Takes A Village: Populating The Institutional Repository With Performing Arts Content, Anne Shelley
It Takes A Village: Populating The Institutional Repository With Performing Arts Content, Anne Shelley
Faculty and Staff Publications – Milner Library
Managing an institutional repository is not a project in its own right: rather, it is an operational service that involves conversations with faculty, students, and other content providers. However, once those stakeholders decide that the repository is a good, stable, discoverable home for their work, there are projects involved in populating the repository. This article presents a case study of how the author, a music librarian and institutional repository manager at Illinois State University, approached adding thousands of items from the Wonsook Kim College of Fine Arts into the institutional repository, ISU ReD: Research and eData.

Men, Women And Witchcraft: The Feminist Reclamation Of The Witch In The Modern Horror Film, Brian Joseph Hadsell
Men, Women And Witchcraft: The Feminist Reclamation Of The Witch In The Modern Horror Film, Brian Joseph Hadsell
Theses and Dissertations
The witch as a figure possesses a powerful and enduring legacy in Euro-American culture; she is both a victim of patriarchal persecution and the natural enemy of a deeply-gendered society. Recent horror films that employ the witch, however, have generally done so in the form of reclaimed feminist icon: a violently retributive figure avenging the wrongs done to women both past and present. The purpose of this research is to provide insight about our acutely gendered society and culture in the times during and preceding the #MeToo movement through a semiological analysis of three recent horror films that center on …

International Marriages: Culture, Identity Formation, Social And Historical Context, Alec Bryan Schaer
Theses and Dissertations
The objective of this research is to examine how changes in sociopolitical and cultural landscapes affect the cultural and personal identities of individuals engaged in mixed heritage relationships. I examine relationships between Japanese women and American men to illustrate that the wider socio-political contexts of these individuals play key roles in how they view and portray themselves in relation to others; as Japanese, American, both, or neither.
This research is divided into two distinct periods, one before WWII and a second after WWII. For each of these periods, I examined the relevant socio-political and cultural circumstances which affected Japanese and …

You Only Have To Be Brave Enough To See It: Evaluation Of Gender Role Portrayal In Disney Princess Movies In View Of Waves Of Feminism, Tamanna Tasmin
You Only Have To Be Brave Enough To See It: Evaluation Of Gender Role Portrayal In Disney Princess Movies In View Of Waves Of Feminism, Tamanna Tasmin
Communication
This paper rhetorically analyzes gender role portrayal in Disney princess movies. Disney princess movies have a significant impact on how society defines gender roles as it is a prominent voice of the entertainment world. Disney has successfully commercialized the concept of being a princess feeding on a century-old fantasy. Each of their movies’ centers around a female lead. Although they vary in the storyline, the gender role portrayal in these movies remains similar. From dependent, delicate and domesticated to independent, bold and adventurous features of their heroines, Disney princess movies have shifted their concentration briskly. At an initial stage, Disney …
