Journal of Case Learning & Exceptional Learners

The Journal of Case Learning and Exceptional Learners (JCLEL) is an open-access, double-blind, peer-reviewed online journal that publishes case studies, case study learning research, and resources. JCLEL focuses on students with intellectual and developmental disabilities and extensive support needs. In this article, we discuss how these unique case studies can be used in special education teacher preparation and why authors should consider publishing with JCLEL. Information about how to write case studies that can be used for educational purposes and that adhere to the case study frameworks will be provided. How To Review For The Journal Of Case Learning And Exceptional Learners, Jeongae Kang, Kathryn L. Haughney, Victoria Vanuitert

Journal of Case Learning & Exceptional Learners

Reviewers for JCLEL help to drive the progress of this open-access repository, storing the experiences of students with moderate to extensive support needs (M-ESN), their support systems, and their collaborators. This article supports the evaluation efforts of reviewers with descriptions of each consideration relevant to various submission types accepted by JCLEL. The rewards and opportunities of reviewing, from professional growth to service, are discussed and common questions are addressed. The presentation of this article is an example of a multi-media publication for JCLEL in which the primary file of the submission is a video or other Web 2.0 content.

Tempe Wilson: An Observation-Based Case Study, Kathryn L. Haughney, Shawnee Wakeman

Journal of Case Learning & Exceptional Learners

This observation-based case study is designed to capture the experience of a school-based evaluation process and psychological evaluation for Tempe, a black cis-gender, 4th-grade female student in a suburban area of a southeastern U.S. state. Given input from a variety of sources, this evaluation demonstrates the importance of flexibility of assessment administration, considerations for reliability, and triangulation in data interpretation for a useful and effective process (Wakeman et al., 2023). This case demonstrates how Tempe's diagnoses, experiences, strengths, and needs may inform the development of an Individualized Education Program (IEP). Teaching Employment Skills To Carla Within Inclusive Postsecondary Education, Kelly R. Kelley, Kelly A. Clark, Larry Fisher

Journal of Case Learning & Exceptional Learners

The purpose of this intervention-based case study is to provide an overview of an intervention aimed at improving employment skills for Carla, a 22-year-old female with intellectual disability enrolled in an inclusive postsecondary education program (IPSE). One specific aim of the IPSE is to prepare graduates for competitive integrated employment and inclusive community opportunities. Data has consistently indicated that individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) experience poorer employment outcomes compared to their peers without disabilities (Lipscomb et al., 2017) and one barrier to employment for individuals with IDD include lack of soft skills.
