The Socio-Economic Impact Of Hiv/Aids In Bangladesh: The Role Of Public Administration In Response To Hiv/Aids, Shakeel Ahmed Ibne Mahmood Mar 2020

The Socio-Economic Impact Of Hiv/Aids In Bangladesh: The Role Of Public Administration In Response To Hiv/Aids, Shakeel Ahmed Ibne Mahmood

Southern Business Review (Archived)

As the Human Immuno- Deficiency Virus, the cause of AIDS, continues to spread in many parts of the world, women are now said to constitute an increasingly large proportion of those infected worldwide. This statistic has mainly been attributed to the fact that until lately, women did not have an independent method of protection by which they could help shield themselves from both pregnancy and infection of sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV.

Shakeel Ahmed lbne Mahmood is senior administrative officer, ICDDR, B-lnternational Center for Health and Population Research, Dhaka, Bangladesh. Currently, he is enrolled in the University of Maine's MPA …

Quality Of Feedback In Higher Education: A Review Of Literature, Kathryn L. Haughney, Shawnee Wakeman, Laura Hart Mar 2020

Quality Of Feedback In Higher Education: A Review Of Literature, Kathryn L. Haughney, Shawnee Wakeman, Laura Hart

Elementary & Special Education: Faculty Publications

In raising the standards for professional educators, higher educators must be prepared to provide the highest quality feedback on student performance and work products toward improved outcomes. This review of the literature examined the major findings of 70 quantitative, mixed methods, or qualitative studies found in higher education journals across a range of disciplines. Multiple recommendations and results for feedback emerged which fall into the categories described by Susan Brookhart. This review found research for each of Brookhart’s categories, with results indicating differences between the perceptions of adherence to sound feedback practices versus the reality of implementation, the potential for …

Preparing Performance Reports For Upper Management: A Skills Building Project For Sales Management Students, Joseph D. Chapman, Russell G. Wahlers

AMTP Proceedings 2020

This paper presents an in-depth assignment used in sales management courses to help students develop the skills needed to prepare a formal performance report for upper management. Students are divided into district management teams and are required to prepare a company performance report for four years of their company’s performance. The author provides the detailed guidelines which are given to the students to aid them in the development of the performance report. A Preliminary Examination Of Sponsorship Motivations And Leveraging In Motor Sports, Carol L. Bruneau Feb 2020

A Preliminary Examination Of Sponsorship Motivations And Leveraging In Motor Sports, Carol L. Bruneau

AMTP Proceedings 2020

Sports sponsorships have become an increasingly large investment for many organizations. IEG (2018) has forecast that in 2018, total global sponsorship spending would be approximately $65.8 billion, with US sponsors contributing $24.28 billion. Close to 70%, or almost $46 billion, of total sponsorship spending will be directed towards the sponsoring of sports events, leagues, teams and individual sports personalities. This paper is a exploratory examination of sponsorships in INDYCAR racing based on participant observation over nine years of viewing INDYCAR races live and on television. Four specific sponsorship examples will be discussed to highlight sponsors’ motivations for sponsorship and how …

“It [My Research] Would Take Place At 11:50pm”: Constructing A Realistic Simulation To Study Online Information Evaluation For School Projects, Amy G. Buhler, Brittany Brannon Feb 2020

“It [My Research] Would Take Place At 11:50pm”: Constructing A Realistic Simulation To Study Online Information Evaluation For School Projects, Amy G. Buhler, Brittany Brannon

Georgia International Conference on Information Literacy

When students explore a search results page for a school-related project, what leads them to select a resource? We explore this question in our IMLS-funded research study, Researching Student Information Choices: Identifying and Judging the Credibility of Online Sources. In this session we introduce our novel simulation-based research method. We designed a simulated environment to study students’ online information-seeking behavior and understand their point-of-selection behavior when they determine that a resource potentially meets their research need. Simulated search engine results pages were used to examine students’ information selection decisions for an age-appropriate research prompt. The simulation collected quantitative data …

Don't Google It! Appeal To Students' Passions To Inspire Information Literacy, Ellen B. Derwin Ph.D. Feb 2020

Don't Google It! Appeal To Students' Passions To Inspire Information Literacy, Ellen B. Derwin Ph.D.

Georgia International Conference on Information Literacy

Who doesn’t love Google? Yet in courses all across disciplines at colleges and universities, faculty struggle with assigning work that requires research. Why? Students immediately Google (or use another search engine) to seek information and often ignore requirements to seek information that is relevant, credible, accurate and evidence-based. Despite partnering with librarians, grading with information literacy as a high priority, and guiding students to seek appropriate sources, googling without critical thinking happens on a regular basis. At Brandman University, this frustration for faculty occurs throughout the curriculum, even in courses such as Critical Thinking, Student Success, and Information Literacy, which …

Archives And Stem: The Perfect Formula For Immersive Cross-Disciplinary Instruction., Dawn N. Cannon-Rech, Autumn Johnson

Georgia International Conference on Information Literacy

Reaching out to STEM Students beyond the one-shot requested instruction sessions is challenging. Creating faculty buy-in for non-traditional STEM instruction is doubly challenging. This poster will highlight a recent activity designed to draw STEM participation in utilizing a unique set of resources from the institution’s Archival Collections. Normally viewed as primarily relevant to history and humanities students, this collection provides the backbone for a fully immersive Escape Room Activity and exposure to primary sources normally not considered part of the normal STEM course work. The hands-on activity provides an opportunity for critical thinking, reflection, and teamwork. The poster will highlight …

An Engaging, Hands-On Activity For Evaluating Sources Through Problem-Based Learning, Brooke J. Taxakis, Elizabeth Dobbins Feb 2020

An Engaging, Hands-On Activity For Evaluating Sources Through Problem-Based Learning, Brooke J. Taxakis, Elizabeth Dobbins

Georgia International Conference on Information Literacy

How can we facilitate first-year student engagement with critical Framework concepts, especially in a one-shot class? In this workshop, we will introduce an active learning activity designed to teach source evaluation in a 50-minute class. The activity, which incorporates elements of problem-based learning and uses a flipped classroom approach, was added to our institution’s first-year experience course. Prompting students to consider a local issue, the activity requires students to evaluate sources represented as “source cards,” choose sources they would use in the context of the assignment, and justify their decisions. Motivated by the challenge and relevance of the activity, students …
