Continuing To Foster: The Impact On Foster To Adopt Families, Mariann Torrence
Continuing To Foster: The Impact On Foster To Adopt Families, Mariann Torrence
Honors College Theses
Foster parents play a critical role in the life of children in foster care. Increasingly more foster parents are becoming the adoptive resource for these children. This exploratory qualitative study examines the lives of five foster families located in the southeastern part of the United States who have adopted at least one foster child and continued fostering other children in their home. The data were collected through in-depth, semi-structured interviews. This research fills a gap in the literature on how adoptive families are affected by the decision to continue fostering. Best Practices Employed By Georgia High School Administrators To Reduce Student Tardiness, Jason Scott Moore
College of Graduate Studies: Theses & Dissertations
The problem of student tardiness was reported by principals over the past two decades as being one of the major problems facing 21st century high schools. This study employed a mixed methods approach and utilized one Georgia school district's student tardiness data for one school year to investigate the extent of tardiness across the district including factors, such as school size, school location, minority enrollment, socioeconomic status, and gender. The qualitative portion of this study utilized interviews to gain stakeholder's descriptions of conditions that contributed to tardiness and their views of what strategies and practices were most effective at reducing …

Parental Involvement In A Northwest Georgia School District, Veronica T. Hunter
College of Graduate Studies: Theses & Dissertations
For decades, parental involvement has had a direct impact on the success of children. Portions of the No Child Left Behind Act include important requirements for schools, districts, and states to organize programs for parental involvement and to implement ways to communicate with parents and the public about student achievement and the quality and performance of schools. According to Gonzalez (2002), teachers and administrators struggle with the lack of parental involvement on a daily basis. He concludes that finding ways to make parents feel more comfortable and welcome would improve the communication and relationship between parents and schools. The purpose …
