Language Barriers In The U.S.: Exploring The Protection Of Human Trafficking Victims Whose Native Language Is Spanish, Rachel Klien-Hart
Language Barriers In The U.S.: Exploring The Protection Of Human Trafficking Victims Whose Native Language Is Spanish, Rachel Klien-Hart
Honors College Theses
Human trafficking exists as a multi-billion-dollar industry that impacts millions of people around the world, mainly targeting vulnerable populations. In the United States, one vulnerable population includes non-English speaking victims trafficked for labor, agriculture, domestic, or sex purposes. Protecting trafficking victims involves providing justice, medical assistance, identification, therapy, rehabilitation, and reintegration tools which often falls within the purview of nonprofit organizations. Research on human trafficking has underscored language barriers as a key obstacle in the protection of trafficking victims. However, little is known about the role of language barriers in the nonprofit sector, and specifically the experiences of nonprofit organizations …

The Gay Agenda: Being Accepted In Children’S Media, Tiffany Wells
Honors College Theses
For many LGBTQ+ children, there is a lack of representation of their identities in the television shows they see growing up. We turn to objects, like television characters, to help “find our way,” which becomes limited for individuals who are part of the minority (Ahmed 1). While LGBTQ+ representation in children’s media has increased, it is still difficult to implement such representation. This thesis we will discuss three shows, Gravity Falls, Steven Universe, and The Owl House, that have struggled with the implementation …

“I Feel Like I’M Part Of The Conversation”: Online Annotation Tools In The Information Literacy Classroom, Piper L. Cumbo
Georgia International Conference on Information Literacy
If instruction librarians have learned anything in the last two years, it’s that 1. we are immensely adaptable and 2. some “fully online” technologies are worth holding onto. For this instruction librarian, online annotation tools are one of those technologies. When the opportunity appeared for this student-centered instruction librarian to teach a semester long, three-credit hour course, in-person on research methods for honors undergraduates of varying levels and skill sets, the choice to add online annotations a course requirement was made. While web-based annotation tools have been prevalent in classrooms for the last five years, they had been used sparingly …

Clippers & Cops And Go Pro In Life, Tyrone J. Dennis
National Youth Advocacy & Resilience Conference
Clippers and cops is an organization I (Detective Tyrone Dennis) started in March of 2018 where APD officers actually go into our own communities to speak to civilians about our own experiences; good and bad.
