Theory & Applications of Graphs
In an improper vertex colouring of a graph, adjacent vertices are permitted to receive same colours. An edge of an improperly coloured graph is said to be a bad edge if its end vertices have the same colour. A near-proper colouring of a graph is a colouring which minimises the number of bad edges by restricting the number of colour classes that can have adjacency among their own elements. The δ (k) - colouring is a near-proper colouring of G consisting of k given colours, where 1 ≤ k ≤ χ(G) – 1, which minimises the number of bad …

Theory & Applications of Graphs
An edge-colored graph is properly connected if for every pair of vertices u and v there exists a properly colored uv-path (i.e. a uv-path in which no two consecutive edges have the same color). The proper connection number of a connected graph G, denoted pc(G), is the smallest number of colors needed to color the edges of G such that the resulting colored graph is properly connected. An edge-colored graph is flexibly connected if for every pair of vertices u and v there exist two properly colored paths between them, say P and Q, such …

Early-Age Compressive Strength And Dynamic Modulus Of Frc Based On Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity, Daniel A. Castillo Pereira, Saman Hedjazi
Civil Engineering & Construction: Faculty Publications
Due to the increasing use of rapid construction methods and the challenges of maintaining construction schedules, a growing demand exists for procedures that can assure quality of work without sacrificing the pace of construction. The quality control of construction materials specifically, the mechanical properties of concrete are among the most important concerns in today’s construction industry. In the present study, the correlation between fiber-reinforced concrete’s compressive strength and dynamic modulus to its ultrasonic pulse velocity is investigated at early ages up to 7 days after mixing. An experimental program involving 189 FRC specimens were designed containing different types of structural …

Integrating Video Evidence In Mixed Methods Research: Innovations, Benefits, And Challenges For Research Exploring How Beliefs Shape Actions, Tashane K. Haynes-Brown, Peggy Shannon-Baker
Curriculum, Foundations & Reading: Faculty Publications
The purpose of this article is to demonstrate the benefits of using video evidence as a catalyst for innovative integration in mixed methods research. We illustrate how video data were used in the elicitation interviews of three teachers to understand their interpretations of how their beliefs align with their observed practices and how they attempted to reduce cognitive dissonance that became apparent during the video elicitation interviews. This article draws from the mixed methods case study phase of a larger explanatory sequential mixed methods study conducted in Jamaica with 248 secondary school teachers. A subsample of eight teachers participated …

Association Of Chronic Pain With Participation In Motor Skill Activities In Children With Cerebral Palsy, Haresh Rochani, Christopher M. Modlesky, Barbara Weissman, Joshua Vova, Gavin T. Colquitt
Biostatistics, Epidemiology & Environmental Health Sciences: Faculty Publications
Many children with cerebral palsy (CP) experience the secondary condition of pain, which is problematic because children with CP face barriers to participation in motor skill activities.1,2 Motor performance in activities of daily living among children with CP is markedly lower than that among their age-matched peers.3 Because of the potential effect of pain on children with CP, we sought to examine the association between pain and activities requiring motor skill performance (ie, difficulty dressing or bathing and participation in sport) among a nationally representative sample of US children with CP.

Most teacher education assessments are criticized for lacking validity and reliability. This study describes the process of developing the Observation of Field Performance rubric to assess initial teacher candidates’ classroom performance and establishing the content validity as well as reliability of the rubric. A panel of content area experts determined that 10 out of 12 items of the rubric were essential and the CVR was above the acceptable range for all 12 items, indicating that the rubric had a strong content validity. Additionally, the analysis of instructors’ ratings on the rubric showed that the rubric had good level of internal …
The Structure Of Functional Graphs For Functions From A Finite Domain To Itself For Which A Half Iterate Exists, Paweł Marcin Kozyra
The Structure Of Functional Graphs For Functions From A Finite Domain To Itself For Which A Half Iterate Exists, Paweł Marcin Kozyra
Theory & Applications of Graphs
The notion of a replica of a nontrivial in-tree is defined. A result enabling to determine whether an in-tree is a replica of another in-tree employing an injective mapping between some subsets of sources of these in-trees is presented. There are given necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of a functional square root of a function from a finite set to itself through presenting necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of a square root of a component of the functional graph for the function and for the existence of a square root of the union of two components …

Middle Grades & Secondary Education: Faculty Publications
A multiple case study was conducted to investigate how Lego robotics instruction incorporated into a middle grades mathematics methods course could inform pre-service teachers’ (PSTs) TPACK through the lens of Social Constructivist Theory. The qualitative data analysis revealed that when instruction on Lego robotics technology is integrated into semester long mathematics methods courses, PSTs are able to improve their TPACK knowledge in regard to the robotics. Overall, the findings suggest instruction of educational technology tools should be incorporated into methods courses over a longer duration of time, and in depth, to better support the development of PSTs’ TPACK. To meet …

This study quantifies the transmission potential of SARS-CoV-2 across public health districts in Georgia, USA, and tests if per capita cumulative case count varies across counties. To estimate the time-varying reproduction number, Rt of SARS-CoV-2 in Georgia and its 18 public health districts, we apply the R package ‘EpiEstim’ to the time series of historical daily incidence of confirmed cases, 2 March–15 December 2020. The epidemic curve is shifted backward by nine days to account for the incubation period and delay to testing. Linear regression is performed between log10-transformed per capita cumulative case count and log10-transformed population size. We observe …

Modal Identification Of Gelatinous Structures Using Visio-Based Vibrometry, Kenneth Nwagu
Modal Identification Of Gelatinous Structures Using Visio-Based Vibrometry, Kenneth Nwagu
Honors College Theses
Gelatinous-based materials show promising uses in various fields such as tissue engineering and bioengineering. However, important structural characteristics such as natural frequencies and mode shapes of hydrogels and hydrogel-based objects are difficult to measure with conventional contact or non-contact-based techniques such as accelerometers and laser vibrometers. Solutions have been made by others using 3D laser imaging, x-ray imaging and ultrasound, but these are often expensive and have challenges in scenarios such as with translucent and small gelatinous objects. The goal of this research is to advance the state-of-the-art of characterizing structural properties of gelatinous materials by using vision based vibrometry. …
