Triangles In Ks-Saturated Graphs With Minimum Degree T, Craig Timmons, Benjamin Cole, Albert Curry, David Davini
Triangles In Ks-Saturated Graphs With Minimum Degree T, Craig Timmons, Benjamin Cole, Albert Curry, David Davini
Theory & Applications of Graphs
For n ≥ 15, we prove that the minimum number of triangles in an n-vertex K4-saturated graph with minimum degree 4 is exactly 2n-4, and that there is a unique extremal graph. This is a triangle version of a result of Alon, Erdos, Holzman, and Krivelevich from 1996. Additionally, we show that for any s > r ≥ 3 and t ≥ 2 (s-2)+1, there is a Ks-saturated n-vertex graph with minimum degree t that has \binom{ s-2}{r-1}2^{r-1} n + c_{s,r,t} copies of Kr. This shows that …

Up Rooting: Sports Marketing Analytics And Attendance In Major League Baseball, Adam Merkle, Catherine Hessick, Britton Leggett, Kenneth O'Connor, Larry Goehrig
AMTP Proceedings 2020
Spurred by a continuous decline in Major League Baseball (MLB) ticket sales and attendance, this study examines external and internal factors affecting team financial performance. Using only secondary data, constructs for external factors (i.e. population, facility age, etc.), team offensive performance (i.e. at-bats, home runs, etc.), attendance, and revenue-based financial metrics were analyzed with PLS-SEM. The findings reveal external factors positively affect both attendance and team financials, but the relationship between a team’s offensive performance and team financials is fully mediated by attendance. The findings imply future sales growth may need to come from marketing strategies and promotional efforts beyond …

Small Teaching: Effective Techniques To Scaffold Student Learning In Information Literacy Instruction Sessions., Omer Farooq
Georgia International Conference on Information Literacy
Learning scientists have long advocated for using learning techniques that help students achieve their learning outcomes in a variety of different contexts. These strategies include engaging prior knowledge, elaborative interrogation questions, self-explanation, distributed practice, and testing—all of which bring the processes of comprehension, critical thinking, and synthesis to the explicit attention of the learner. However, the use of strategies such as self-explanations, analogies, and elaborative interrogation prompts that enhance learning by facilitating the various stages of the research process is not fully explored in the context of information literacy instruction. This presentation will highlight ways to incorporate specific questioning prompts …

Reaching out to STEM Students beyond the one-shot requested instruction sessions is challenging. Creating faculty buy-in for non-traditional STEM instruction is doubly challenging. This poster will highlight a recent activity designed to draw STEM participation in utilizing a unique set of resources from the institution’s Archival Collections. Normally viewed as primarily relevant to history and humanities students, this collection provides the backbone for a fully immersive Escape Room Activity and exposure to primary sources normally not considered part of the normal STEM course work. The hands-on activity provides an opportunity for critical thinking, reflection, and teamwork. The poster will highlight …

Sensemaking And Big Data Science: Soft And Hard Marketing Skills Are Needed Today, Michael Latta
AMTP Proceedings 2020
The story of how Big Data Science was enabled through the marriage of technology in the form of the young discipline of computer science and the mature discipline of statistics was told by Gil Press in his (2013) Forbes piece titled ‘A Very Short History Of Data Science.’ The name “Data Science” is now the discipline charged with utilizing Big Data. But making sense of data has a much longer history and has been debated by scientists, statisticians, librarians, computer scientists and others for years. More recently, the ideas surrounding the importance of ‘context’ have been integrated into the use …
