This presentation will target schools that are in the installing phase or planning phase. However, the presentation could also benefit schools that may not have had a successful implementation year due to a variety of reasons.
The presentation will focus on 7 critical components (tools) Stockbridge Elementary School utilized during Year 1 of implementing the PBIS framework. By using these tools SES reduced the number of office referrals by 33%. The 7 success tools are: Community Buy-In, Strategic Introduction to Student Body, Planned PBIS Leadership Meetings, PBIS Student Ambassadors, Constant Reflection of Practices / Procedures, Effective and Consistent Acknowledgement System, …
Trematodes And Neorickettsia: Diversity Of Digeneans And Their Bacterial Endosymbionts (Neorickettsia) In Mollusk First Intermediate Hosts From Eastern Mongolia, Morgan Gallahue
Honors College Theses
This study focused on the survey of 34 freshwater snail samples collected from NE Mongolia for larval flatworm parasites in the class Trematoda. 32 of the snail samples were infected, and the parasites were identified based on morphology and DNA sequences. Nine of the identified parasite samples were screened for the presence of bacterial endosymbionts in the genus Neorickettsia in the family Anaplasmataceae. All of the samples screened for Neorickettsia were negative for the bacterium. Species of Neorickettsia are known to cause several diseases such as Sennetsu Fever (in humans) and Potomac Horse Fever. There have been relatively few reliable …
The Investigation Of Noise, Vibrations And Emissions Of Aero-Gas Turbine Combustion With Synthetic Kerosene Fuels, Margaret Kilpatrick
The Investigation Of Noise, Vibrations And Emissions Of Aero-Gas Turbine Combustion With Synthetic Kerosene Fuels, Margaret Kilpatrick
Honors College Theses
Climatic changes from aviation emissions are complex and include effects of greenhouse gases such as: CO2, NOx, and aerosols. For that reason, the objectives of this study were to investigate the noise, vibrations and emissions characteristics of synthetic kerosene combustion in an aerospace gas turbine to reduce the engine’s environmental impact. Sustainably produced synthetic kerosene is known for having low soot emissions due to little to no aromatics (compounds that create particle pollutants), and for being a sustainable alternative fuel source to imported oil. The noise and sound levels were collected using Bruel & Kjaer microphones to measure various mid …
A Shift In Global Thought And Practice: Assessing The Impacts Of The Human Security Paradigm On Global Public Health, Elizabeth Livingston Leone
A Shift In Global Thought And Practice: Assessing The Impacts Of The Human Security Paradigm On Global Public Health, Elizabeth Livingston Leone
Honors College Theses
With the increasing emphasis on health through human security since the 1990s by the United Nations, scholars have debated how human security has influenced public health. I examine how the idea of human security has become a paradigm and if this paradigm has adopted in public health programs. I argue that the rise of human security has led to an emphasis on the role of global actors, preventative care and health education when states adopt the paradigm. This adoption should in turn improve public health in Ghana and the Ivory Coast.
Redefining “Normal:” Textual And Visual Rhetoric Of Women With Disabilities, Hannah Sincavage
Redefining “Normal:” Textual And Visual Rhetoric Of Women With Disabilities, Hannah Sincavage
Honors College Theses
The field of disability studies holds that disability is a political and cultural identity, not just a medical condition. The rhetoric attached to disabled bodies makes them seem negative, while the rhetoric attached to abled bodies is positive. This negative rhetoric applies to visual rhetoric as well, resulting in disabilities being largely ignored in the fields of advertisement. As they are now finally being incorporated, this brings up certain questions about the issues regarding the exploitation and representation of people with disabilities. The representation of bodies in advertising affects and alters how society considers and perceives the actual bodies that …
Effects Of Active Sitting On Typing And Reading Task Productivity, Claire Doroff
Effects Of Active Sitting On Typing And Reading Task Productivity, Claire Doroff
Honors College Theses
Increased sedentary behavior and reduced physical activity among children and adults has led to the advent of various active devices to combat these behaviors. Active sitting, consisting of modified chairs or stability balls, allows the body to stay dynamic while seated. While research has evaluated the health benefits of active sitting, minimal research has shown the effects of active sitting on productivity in adult populations. PURPOSE: The purpose was to evaluate the effects of various chairs (active versus non-active) on typing and reading task productivity. METHODS: Twenty adult participants performed typing and reading tasks for 10-minutes while sitting …

Road To Successful High School Pbis Implementation: Grows And Glows, Yvonne S. Isom Ph. D, Taneisha E. Favors, Sheena Middlebrooks
Georgia Association for Positive Behavior Support Conference
The beginning of our Road to Success started with an environment that was not conducive to learning. Our school climate and culture which included: disengaged scholars, low engagement from parents, and scholars lacking the social and emotional skills to foster healthy relationships was counterproductive to the mission of our school. Our mission is to educate every scholar and prepare them to be college and career ready.
Road to successful High School PBIS Implementation: Grows and Glows is a presentation that includes how to build a cohesive team to support PBIS in high school, identify a variety of systems and interventions …

Pbis Strategies For A Positive Learning Environment In High School, Mariel Pock, Brittany Blackmon, Janet I. Goodman
Pbis Strategies For A Positive Learning Environment In High School, Mariel Pock, Brittany Blackmon, Janet I. Goodman
Georgia Association for Positive Behavior Support Conference
Through an interactive presentation the audience will be able to engage in games and activities to take to their classrooms. One example is the “Green Paper” strategy which supports positive behavior in the classroom. This strategy prevented inappropriate behavior in class by focusing on clear and consistent positive expectations through self-correction. This strategy allows the teacher to have two conferences with the students and apply one action plan involving parents to support appropriate behavior in the classroom and at home. It helps the teacher to meet the students where they are and to provide individual supports to help students self-correct. …

Educator Self-Care: How do we save the lifeguards?
The impact of an educator cannot be dismissed especially when we consider that they are entrusted with a very difficult responsibility of cultivating productive and knowledgeable citizens. However, what happens when educators are exposed to trauma, either directly or indirectly? With the pressures of academic and behavior achievement surmounting, what can schools do to support their teachers who are entrusted with our future leaders? Coastal Academy GNETS will present a framework that is analogous to the Drowning Chain of Survival for Lifeguards to meet this growing need. Participants will gain an awareness …
Re-Engage Students With “Check And Connect”, Tara Davis, Tony Feldmann
Re-Engage Students With “Check And Connect”, Tara Davis, Tony Feldmann
Georgia Association for Positive Behavior Support Conference
One of the most effective dropout prevention programs is Check & Connect. Check and Connect is for K-12 students that show signs of disengagement with school and who are at risk of dropping out. The foundation of Check & Connect (C&C) is building a trusting relationship between the student and a caring mentor. A mentor builds a strong relationship with students, systematically “Checks” on students, “Connects” with students, and partners with parents/families, functioning as a liaison between home and school and striving to build constructive family-school relationships.
Check & Connect is empirically supported through rigorous research and has shown to …
