Effects Of A Dual-Task Paradigm And Gait Velocity On Dynamic Gait Stability During Stair Descent, Qipeng Song, Wei Sun, Cui Zhang, Min Mao, Li Li

Falls during stair negotiation have become one of the leading causes of accidental death. The effects of a concurrent cognitive or manual dual-task paradigm on dynamic gait stability remain uncertain. How much dynamic gait stability is influenced by gait velocity is also not clear. A total of 16 healthy young females descended a staircase under three different walking conditions: descend stairs only (single task), descend stairs while performing subtraction (cognitive dual-task), and descend stairs while carrying a glass of water (manual dual-task). Labels are for clothing, not people! The presentation Eliminating Colorism encourages positive interactions with black males in a school setting. Colorism is defined as discrimination within one group or race, and can negatively impact academics, behavior, and a child’s, development, particularly among black males. Many youth experience barriers reentering their local school system once released from confinement. The Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice's Office of Reentry Services and School System work collaboratively to remove these barriers by building partnerships with school systems state-wide. System involved youth (e.g., youth in child welfare or juvenile services) are a vulnerable population with increased risk for unintended pregnancy, HIV, and STIs. This workshop is designed to (1) identify their sexual reproductive health risk behaviors; (2) describe the related determinants; and, (3) improve awareness of how educators can promote the development of positive sexual risk behaviors among them.

EnCompass: Resources for Learning, an educational non-profit organization in Rochester NY, established in 2002, started providing targeted academic support to students through small group instruction, teaching study skills and executive functioning skills, test preparation, and after school programming through collaboration with the Rochester City School District and several local charter schools. While these programs and services directly supported students’ academic progress, it became increasingly clear that many students who need the additional support had sporadic attendance, and in some cases faced much greater barriers as a result traumatic life experiences, including living in conditions of poverty.
