Exploring The Impact Of Animal-Assisted Therapy On Children’S Literacy Skills In Speech-Language Interventions, Samantha Wingate
Exploring The Impact Of Animal-Assisted Therapy On Children’S Literacy Skills In Speech-Language Interventions, Samantha Wingate
Honors College Theses
Animal-assisted therapy (AAT) is a therapeutic approach that uses therapy dogs to improve the clinical goals of individuals who need rehabilitative support. While AAT research within the health professions is developing, there is support showing that this type of milieu therapy has potential benefits when working with children with literacy concerns. Within the field of communication sciences and disorders (CSD), AAT can be used by speech-language pathologists to establish goal-directed therapy sessions to improve children’s literacy skills. This paper will highlight current literature that explores the use of AAT within literacy interventions, the use of evidence-based measures, and the feasibility …
The Effects Of Covid-19 On China’S Luxury Retail Market, Shirlysia D. Daniel
The Effects Of Covid-19 On China’S Luxury Retail Market, Shirlysia D. Daniel
Honors College Theses
The Coronavirus outbreak that occurred in 2020 negatively impacted the world globally. China handled the pandemic better than other countries due to their experience with prior virus outbreaks, SARS and MERS. It is important to research how the Coronavirus outbreak affected and is still affecting China’s economy, as it is a leading role in other countries’ economies as well. Before Covid-19, Chinese consumers made up one-third of global spending on luxury goods. Global luxury spending decreased drastically as many were impacted financially, emotionally, and physically. However, China’s success during the pandemic has been predicted to be the largest luxury retail …
Analysis Of Data To Evaluate The Performance Of Air Filters Used For Filtering Nanoscale Particles Generated By Smoke, Pascal J. Wagemaker
Analysis Of Data To Evaluate The Performance Of Air Filters Used For Filtering Nanoscale Particles Generated By Smoke, Pascal J. Wagemaker
Honors College Theses
The main goal of this research project is to determine the effectiveness of commercially available air filters and to compare different kinds of commercially available air filters in certain categories. With recent record-breaking wildfires and the Covid-19 pandemic, research on the effects and features of nanoparticles has become increasingly important. Inhalation of nanoparticles in smoke can result in severe health effects on humans, affecting especially the respiratory system. As nanoparticles can pass through cell membranes, absorption occurs rapidly and affects many different parts and functions of the human body. While air filters are an effective method of reducing small-sized particles …

Fools’ Gold: Racism, Social Mobility, And Native Americans During The Gold Rush, Natasha Stange
Fools’ Gold: Racism, Social Mobility, And Native Americans During The Gold Rush, Natasha Stange
Armstrong Undergraduate Journal of History
By the mid-1850s, more than 300,000 individuals had migrated to California, as the discovery of gold tempted many to abandon their poor working and living conditions for the chance to “strike it rich” out west. Often considered the dawn of a new era with boundless opportunities and riches for anyone, the rapid, widespread transcontinental migration spurred by the Gold Rush replicated and exacerbated pre-existing societal issues—namely racism, mistreatment of Indians, and unequal economic opportunity—in the United States. Racism, maltreatment of Native Americans, and unequal economic opportunity are all problems that have plagued American society from its inception. By failing to …
Inside The Eugenics Quarterly: American Eugenicists And The Birth Control Movement In 1929, Meg Spaulding
Inside The Eugenics Quarterly: American Eugenicists And The Birth Control Movement In 1929, Meg Spaulding
Armstrong Undergraduate Journal of History
This essay uses issues of the Eugenics Quarterly from 1929 to examine the ways in which the eugenics and the birth control movements overlapped and, ultimately, used each other for their own gain. The articles about birth control in the Eugenics Quarterly show that eugenicists were grappling with whether or not birth control would help or hinder their cause. Overall, they saw birth control as a helpful factor for their eugenics principles. Similarly, the birth control movement used the authority and reputability of eugenic scientists to bolster their own mission.

Irish Rock Music Amid A Time Of Troubles: Thin Lizzy And U2 As A Bridge During A Time Of Division, Jacey L. Thomas
Irish Rock Music Amid A Time Of Troubles: Thin Lizzy And U2 As A Bridge During A Time Of Division, Jacey L. Thomas
Honors College Theses
The Troubles were a period of crisis and violence in Ireland in the latter half of the twentieth century. Loyalists, Unionists, Republicans, and Nationalists brutally fought against each other over the issue of whether or not Northern Ireland should remain in the United Kingdom or join the Republic of Ireland to form one united country. The conflict also resulted in ethnic and religious tensions for many Protestants and Catholics who were compelled to choose sides over this issue, owing to their ties to the deep-rooted history of animosity between the two Christian populations. As a result, the Troubles, which lasted …
Traits Of Religious Leadership, Alex J. Raymond
Traits Of Religious Leadership, Alex J. Raymond
Honors College Theses
Religious leaders act in crucial roles throughout their communities, yet few studies have addressed these leaders. Despite numerous experiments having been conducted with religion and leadership, little has focused on specifically religious leadership. This study sought to contribute to the limited body of knowledge regarding the traits of religious leadership. We had developed eight preacher profiles that presented varying qualities of moral integrity, communal involvement, and the capability to instill personal meaning in individual religious members. After reading one of these profiles in an online survey, the 178 participants were asked to answer a series of questions to rate the …

Escape The Show And Tell: Engaging Primary Source Literacy Through Immersive Game-Based Instruction, Autumn Johnson, Dawn Nikki Cannon-Rech
Escape The Show And Tell: Engaging Primary Source Literacy Through Immersive Game-Based Instruction, Autumn Johnson, Dawn Nikki Cannon-Rech
University Libraries: Faculty Publications
Instruction using Special Collections and archival resources tends to play a minor role in library instruction programs. Special Collections is more often employed in exhibitions or public forums for lectures, presentations, and academic discussions. Hands-on opportunities to teach with Special Collections, if available, are typically limited to oneshot lecture sessions with a handful of resources specific to a singular course subject or assignment topic. While these “Show and Tell” sessions can be a great way to expose undergraduate students to archival primary sources, they often are used exclusively in history or humanities courses. A more engaging, tactile approach is certainly …
Does God Condone Assault? How Religious Commitment Impacts Trauma Following Sexual Abuse, Madison Snider
Does God Condone Assault? How Religious Commitment Impacts Trauma Following Sexual Abuse, Madison Snider
Honors College Theses
Sexual assault has been defined as crimes that include attacks or attempted attacks generally involving unwanted sexual contact between victim and offender. After experiencing assault, survivors look for support and belief often turning to their religious communities. It has been found through prior research that the confession of assault has been received on an inconsistent reaction basis. Prior research has also found that religion is often used as a protective shield for perpetrators to hide behind and a roadblock for survivors. Prior research has also primarily focused on investigating reactions to assault in religious communities for either male female victims …

“We Already Look Amazing, We Just Need Designers To Jump On Board”: Designing For Female Consumers That Use Mobility Aids Based On Satisfaction With Retail Selection And Garment Design Characteristics, Mackenzie L. Miller
Honors College Theses
One in 4 people (85 million) in the United States has been diagnosed with a form of a disability, with 13.7 percent (44 million) having a mobility-related disability (CDC, 2020). Despite being the largest disability minority group in the US (CDC, 2020), the availability of clothes for pets is larger than the selection for people with disabilities (Ryan, 2018). The purpose of this qualitative study is to evaluate satisfaction of ready-to-wear and adaptive clothing among female consumers who use mobility aids. Fit issues, lack of availability, and lack of consideration for disability needs were found as overarching problems in both …

Substitution Of Kudzu Starch For Cornstarch Results In Dairy-Based Vanilla Pudding With Similar Texture And Consumer Acceptability, Carissa D. Ingram
Substitution Of Kudzu Starch For Cornstarch Results In Dairy-Based Vanilla Pudding With Similar Texture And Consumer Acceptability, Carissa D. Ingram
Honors College Theses
Kudzu, also known as kuzu, is a rapidly growing, vine invasive in the Southeastern United States following introduction for soil erosion control in the late 19th century. Native to Southeastern Asia, its roots are rich in starch which has been used in traditional Eastern cuisine as a sauce thickener. Use of kudzu starch in Western cuisine is limited. This study compared the consistency, percent sag, and consumer acceptability of whole milk vanilla pudding prepared with kudzu starch to vanilla pudding prepared with cornstarch, a more commonly used thickening agent in the United States (control). The consistency (Bostwick Consistometer; 50°C) and …

Assessing Hotel Employee Knowledge On Risk Factors And Risk Management Procedures For Microbial Contamination Of Hotel Water Distribution Systems, Brandon Leftwich, Samuel T. Opoku, Jingjing Yin, Atin Adhikari
Health Policy & Community Health: Faculty Publications
Water management plans (WMPs), sometimes referred to as risk management plans (RMPs) or water safety plans (WSPs), are not mandatory for hotels in many countries of the world, including he US. As such, many hotel personnel are uninformed of WMPs and the precautions to take if their hotel water system is compromised. The purpose of this study was to identify hotel personnel’s knowledge and practices of WMPs through a survey incorporating the Health Belief Model (HBM). Data were collected from 59 hotels within Fulton County, Georgia, USA, through a questionnaire, and questions were developed tailored to the HBM. Significant associations …
Determinates Of Georgia White-Tailed Deer Harvests, Evan W. Page
Determinates Of Georgia White-Tailed Deer Harvests, Evan W. Page
Honors College Theses
This manuscript provides recent evidence regarding the determinates of white-tailed deer harvest densities in the state of Georgia. The data from the 2016/17-2020/21 deer hunting seasons indicates total deer harvest density is positively influenced by the prior year’s mature buck harvest density, the turkey harvest density, higher unemployment rates, higher median incomes, and a higher level of education. Deer harvest density was found to be negatively impacted by larger public land harvests the year before and greater human population densities.
