Make Learning Meaningful With Interdisciplinary Lessons, Michele Dodge, Phil Dodge
Interdisciplinary STEM Teaching & Learning Conference (2012-2019) (Archived)
The workshop activities are centered around the Middle Child, grades 4-8. Participants will experience and plan for interdisciplinary lessons. These lessons include Science and Technology along with other disciplines. Examples include but not limited to integration of Literacy and Science, and Social Studies and Science and Technology. Participants will participate as a learner with hands on activities, then will follow up with generating lesson plans of their own. Participants will leave with clear understanding of what it takes to bring an interdisciplinary lesson to the next level, and then implement it in their own classroom in a meaningful way that …

Ensuring Every Student Suceeds With A Supportive School Climate, Jane Bluestein
Ensuring Every Student Suceeds With A Supportive School Climate, Jane Bluestein
National Youth Advocacy & Resilience Conference
It’s tough to learn in an environment that doesn’t feel safe and supportive—not just physically safe, but also academically, behaviorally, socially, and emotionally safe! Let’s look at school climate through each of lenses and see how we can make our learning environments engaging and inviting, even for defeated, defiant, and discouraged kids, including those who may have had negative, contentious, and failure-oriented experiences in the past. For all grade levels and subject areas.
Systemic Perspective Of Conduct Disorder In Adolescents, Charmayne Adams
Systemic Perspective Of Conduct Disorder In Adolescents, Charmayne Adams
National Youth Advocacy & Resilience Conference
This presentation explores the systemic nature of conduct disorder and the effect it has on individuals, educational settings, and communities. It address the systemic nature of the diagnosis through Bronfenbrenner's Ecological Model and looks at interventions for each layer of the model. This presentation also acknowledges the disproportionate rate of youth-at-risk, especially male youth of color diagnosed with conduct disorder.

Using Photovoice With Adults With Developmental Disabilities To Measure Camp Goals, Haley Alexandra Allmond
Using Photovoice With Adults With Developmental Disabilities To Measure Camp Goals, Haley Alexandra Allmond
Honors College Theses
This project addressed the perspectives of adults with developmental disabilities in a residential camp setting, with a particular focus on health beliefs. It involved 15 participants with a range of diagnoses in participatory action research using Photovoice, which is a technique that allows marginalized groups the ability to voice specific needs through photography. For the purposes of this project, subjects took photos and examined evidence of healthy living skills learned during the camp experience. After analyzing data collected, the researcher identified four separate definitions of health discussed by participants. Study findings suggest that the residential camp experience has a positive …

The Classical Versus The Grotesque Body In Edith Wharton's Fiction, Joshua T. Temples
The Classical Versus The Grotesque Body In Edith Wharton's Fiction, Joshua T. Temples
College of Graduate Studies: Theses & Dissertations
In her landmark works The House of Mirth (1905), The Custom of the Country (1913), and The Age of Innocence (1920), Edith Wharton responds to earlier depictions of the classical, pure Victorian and Edwardian woman. Wharton's "inconvenient" women overturn popular stereotypes. Subsequently, they are barred from their social groups, but they are independent, unlike the complicit and obedient women of the classical body, most of whom ascribe to the trope of the "Angel in the House." The grotesque seeks to undercut the unrealistic expectations enforced by the classical through its embodiment of progression and humanity, and Wharton is drawn to …
Movement In Cats, Valerie N. Plummer
Movement In Cats, Valerie N. Plummer
College of Graduate Studies: Theses & Dissertations
Feral cats (Felis catus) are listed as one of the '100 world's worst invasive alien species'. There are as many as 70-100 million feral cats in the United States as well as an estimated 117-157 million domestic indoor and outdoor cats. Management efforts include a nonlethal feeding and sterilization program known as "trap-neuter-release" (TNR) where cats are surgically sterilized and returned to the environment. Population size and structure, immigration rates, spay/neuter rates, and data on spatial use all play a role in whether TNR is a viable management option. This study focuses on population structure and spatial use. …
Finding Moments Of Meaning In Undergraduate Education: How The Scholarship Of Teaching And Learning Can Help, Jeffrey L. Bernstein
Finding Moments Of Meaning In Undergraduate Education: How The Scholarship Of Teaching And Learning Can Help, Jeffrey L. Bernstein
International Journal for the Scholarship of Teaching & Learning
I argue for the value of high-impact educational practices as tools to minimize the commoditization of higher education. As a vehicle for doing so, I discuss a travel course to Washington, D.C. that I have led. This course is a significant and meaningful learning experience for the students who participate. In reflecting upon the value of this course, I suggest that scholars of teaching and learning have a particular responsibility to resist the increasing commoditization of higher education. Instead, we must think about embedding significant and transformative elements into the curriculum. Scholars of teaching and learning must help to demonstrate, …

A Measurement Tool For Circular Economy Practices: A Case Study In Pallet Supply Chains, Maria Grazia Gnoni, Fabiana Tornese, Brian K. Thorn, Andres L. Carrano, Jennifer A. Pazour
15th IMHRC Proceedings (Savannah, Georgia. USA – 2018)
A circular economy (CE) is an economic system where products and services are traded in closed loops or ‘cycles’. This work develops a framework for assessing the extent to which product supply chains incorporate circular economy principles, and applies this framework to a specific material handling application, the wooden pallet supply chain. The main decisions affecting circularity and the most common decision alternatives for the wooden pallet supply chain are identified for the Pre-manufacturing, manufacturing, product delivery, customer use, and end-of-life phases. A streamlined life cycle assessment tool is developed for supporting a quick analysis about how the level of …

Mindful Escapism, Kench Weathers
Mindful Escapism, Kench Weathers
College of Graduate Studies: Theses & Dissertations
This thesis examines the art work included in Kench Weathers’ MFA thesis exhibition. This work explores major themes such as the sacred, contemplation, optical illusion and paradox. The installations involve multiple three-dimensional geometric shapes that are formed with steel tubing (welded together). These works have various inspiration; both contemporary secular and sacred and are influenced by sacred paradox, both visual and ideological. The mixture of the two-dimensional with the three-dimensional creates multistable perception within the viewer. The work introduces visual and perceptual distortions of depth and dimensionality. These forms are nonrepresentational but act as a catalyst for the viewer. I …
