Fast Inverse Distance Weighting-Based Spatiotemporal Interpolation: A Web-Based Application Of Interpolating Daily Fine Particulate Matter Pm2.5 In The Contiguous U.S. Using Parallel Programming And K-D Tree, Lixin Li, Travis Losser, Charles Yorke, Reinhard E. Piltner
Fast Inverse Distance Weighting-Based Spatiotemporal Interpolation: A Web-Based Application Of Interpolating Daily Fine Particulate Matter Pm2.5 In The Contiguous U.S. Using Parallel Programming And K-D Tree, Lixin Li, Travis Losser, Charles Yorke, Reinhard E. Piltner
Mathematical Sciences: Faculty Publications
Epidemiological studies have identified associations between mortality and changes in concentration of particulate matter. These studies have highlighted the public concerns about health effects of particulate air pollution. Modeling fine particulate matter PM2.5exposure risk and monitoring day-to-day changes in PM2.5 concentration is a critical step for understanding the pollution problem and embarking on the necessary remedy. This research designs, implements and compares two inverse distance weighting (IDW)-based spatiotemporal interpolation methods, in order to assess the trend of daily PM2.5 concentration for the contiguous United States over the year of 2009, at both the census block group level and county level. …

Comparing And Contrasting The Us And German Banking System With Emphasis On The Financial Crisis In 2008, Sarah K. Gleissle
Comparing And Contrasting The Us And German Banking System With Emphasis On The Financial Crisis In 2008, Sarah K. Gleissle
Honors College Theses
This thesis will compare and contrast the Financial Systems of the United States and Germany, the structure, institutions and regulations. Furthermore, we investigated the impacts that the Financial Crisis in 2008 had on Financial Systems, the outcomes and effects. First, we looked at both Systems and the structures more closely, and compared them to each other. Next we looked at the regulations and regulatory agencies in both countries and the work they do. We realized that the different competitive natures the banking systems are under influence their businesses and business decisions.
Quantitative Reasoning Learning Progression: The Matrix, Robert L. Mayes, Jennifer H. Forrester, Jennifer D. Schuttlefield Christus, Franziska Peterson, Rachel Walker

Middle Grades & Secondary Education: Faculty Publications
The NSF Pathways Project studied the development of environmental literacy in students from grades six through high school. Learning progressions for environmental literacy were developed to explicate the trajectory of learning. The Pathways QR research team supported this effort by studying the role of quantitative reasoning (QR) as a support or barrier to developing environmental literacy. An iterative research methodology was employed which included targeted student interviews to establish QR learning progression progress variables and elements comprising those progress variables, development of a QR learning progression framework, and closed-form QR assessments to verify the progression. In this paper the focus …

The Effect Of Antecedent Mood On Customer Loyalty Intentions: A Mood By Gender Interaction, Michael L. Thomas, Lindsay Levine, Linda Mullen
The Effect Of Antecedent Mood On Customer Loyalty Intentions: A Mood By Gender Interaction, Michael L. Thomas, Lindsay Levine, Linda Mullen
Journal of Applied Marketing Theory
This study suggests that induced antecedent moods may, in a systematic manner, influence subsequent levels of loyalty intention within consumer scenarios. Furthermore, this research finds that there exists differential responses to induced mood states by gender, which fall in line with research on the underlying gender differences in cognitive processing, levels of risk aversion, motivation, and the experience of emotion while shopping. Past studies in this area have shown only a mild connection between induced antecedent mood state and loyalty intentions, which may be due in part to the issue of an emotion by gender interaction. This paper reinforces previous …

Geometry: A Medium To Facilitate Geometric Reasoning Among Sixth Grade African-American Males, Olufunke Adefope
Geometry: A Medium To Facilitate Geometric Reasoning Among Sixth Grade African-American Males, Olufunke Adefope
Georgia Educational Researcher
In this article, the author describes how a curricular unit that provided opportunities for active engagement and participation was used to support the geometric reasoning of sixth grade African American (AA) male students. The curricular unit was designed to support students’ understanding of quadrilaterals. Data sources (pre- and post-tests, video recordings of classroom episodes, mathematics interviews) were analyzed through quantitative and qualitative methods. Findings showed that students improved in their understanding of quadrilateral classifications. Specifically, students were able to use their knowledge of geometry to evaluate the relationships between pairs of quadrilaterals. However, levels of understanding were varied. Little research …
The Reading And Writing Connection: Merging Two Reciprocal Content Areas, Renee Moran, Monica Billen
The Reading And Writing Connection: Merging Two Reciprocal Content Areas, Renee Moran, Monica Billen
Georgia Educational Researcher
The purpose of this article is make connections between two content areas, reading and writing, which have traditionally been separated and consider the relationship between their theoretical underpinnings. Based on their reciprocal nature, the authors posit that students could greatly benefit by reading and writing being taught simultaneously. Relying on this premise, this article provides the reader with three practical strategies that could be applied in the literacy classroom to intertwine reading and writing. These practical strategies include: classroom blogs, graphic depictions, and pen pal responses to literature.

The Examination Of Healthy Eating Across Cultures: An Existential Phenomenological Approach, Sarah K. Simpson
The Examination Of Healthy Eating Across Cultures: An Existential Phenomenological Approach, Sarah K. Simpson
Honors College Theses
Adhering to a healthy eating plan has been a topic of discussion across World regions. Moreover, Americans often attempt to mimic the eating habits of other regions of the world, such as the Mediterranean or Eastern Asia, in an attempt to live a long and healthy life. Satia et al., (2000) suggest that healthy eating perceptions can be influenced by food and beverage exposure, family norms, preparation methods, and geographic locations. Although this is the case, little research has been found which has examined healthy eating perceptions across regions from a qualitative perspective. Thus, the purpose of this study is …
