Attitude Change In Response To An In-Service Teacher Education Programme, E. P. Otto, I. S. Gasson
Attitude Change In Response To An In-Service Teacher Education Programme, E. P. Otto, I. S. Gasson
Australian Journal of Teacher Education
"How can I tell how successful this course has been?" is becoming an increasingly common question in tertiary education. This interest in tertiary teaching and learning is reflected in the fact that one-half of all Australian universities now have tertiary teaching units. There are a number of reasons why evaluation is important. Firstly, discrepancies between the actual and the ideal situation can be detected, causes identified and corrective measures instituted at all stages of the evaluative model, to serve the interests of increased efficiency and improved staff and student satisfaction. Secondly, courses which are continually being evaluated are better able …

In view of the policy of the Connnission on Advanced Education not to support a fout' year preservice preparation for primary school teachers, this submission presents the proposed Bachelor of Education degree as a five year program comprising three phases:
(i) A three year full-time pre-service teacher education program leading to the award of Diploma of Teaching (UG2);
(ii) a minimum of one year successful in-field teaching experience;
(iii) a one year full-time or equivalent part-time program leading to the award of Bachelor of Education (UG1).

Aboriginal Australians Speak : An Introduction To Australian Aboriginal Linguistics, Eric G. Vaszolyi
Aboriginal Australians Speak : An Introduction To Australian Aboriginal Linguistics, Eric G. Vaszolyi
Research outputs pre 2011
It has duly been recognized that Aboriginal society in Australia is far from homogeneous. People and groups referred to as part-Aborigines, urban Aborigines, fringe-dwellers, rural Aborigines, traditionally oriented or tribal Aborigines in the outback and so on display considerable diversity in terms of culture, identity, aspirations and the like. Language is no exception. Some Aboriginal people (mainly in cities or towns and some rural areas) would speak as good an English as any non-Aboriginal Australian and often much better: indeed, their only language, their. 'mother tongue' is English. In contrast, in the outback one can still meet Aborigines who speak …
The Assessment Of Teaching Practice : What Criteria Should We Choose?, C. P. Hodgson
The Assessment Of Teaching Practice : What Criteria Should We Choose?, C. P. Hodgson
Australian Journal of Teacher Education
For a number of years now, the practical element of pre-service teacher education has been taken in primary and secondary schools under the guidance of members of the school staff, and tutors from the college or university department of education. The tutor may also be called upon to give an assessment of the student's ability to teach. Despite various attempts to break away from assessments by grading, the fact remains that the majority of student-teachers practise are assessed this way. The recurrent problem, then, is on what criteria should the assessment be based?
Training Teachers To Facilitate Inquiry, J. H. Lake
Training Teachers To Facilitate Inquiry, J. H. Lake
Australian Journal of Teacher Education
Within the broad context of the topic Pre-Service and In-Service Education, I have decided to focus my attention on one rather narrow aspect of the pre-service education of primary school teachers. The topic which I want to consider is one which I have called " Training Teachers to Facilitate Inquiry " The examples which I ' ll use are drawn primarily from the broad field of primary science education. However since the type of intellectual activity involved in inquiry is desired in all areas of the primary school curriculum, I trust that what I have to say will have application …
The Fourth R : Reality Construction And The Sociology Of Knowledge, Prolegomena To Social Studies Curriculum Theory, P. Reynolds
The Fourth R : Reality Construction And The Sociology Of Knowledge, Prolegomena To Social Studies Curriculum Theory, P. Reynolds
Australian Journal of Teacher Education
The nineteen sixties were marked by a revival of interest In the theory of curriculum construction and innovation which was derived from a psychological perspective. However, recent developments would seem to suggest a growing consciousness of the need for a sociological perspective on curriculum theory. This paper represents explorations within the wide field of the sociology of knowledge in an attempt to isolate the main issues of confl ict and controversy.

In the short time available it has been impossible to prepare this submission in anything but general terms. However, the aim has been to comment on four major aspects of the development of tertiary institutions in this State:
PLANNING
1.1 restructuring of the bodies co-ordinating tertiary education
1.2 co-ordinated development of overlapping areas of technical, further and tertiary education
1.3 community college and open-learning operation of tertiary institutions for greater benefit of local communities
1.4 accountability of institutions of advanced education in terms of vocational supply and demand and community benefit proportional to public funds invested in such institutions.

The Practicum: Present And Future : Report On The National Conference On Teacher Education, Perth, Western Australia, 18-22 August 1975, Mount Lawley College Of Advanced Education
Research outputs pre 2011
In Western Australia concern had been expressed among those involved in the professional preparation of teachers that there was a tendency to de-emphasize the practical components of courses in favour of the more theoretical academic disciplines.
There was a view expressed, perhaps rather parachially, that Western Australia, disadvantaged by distance for on-going communication between institutions, also appeared to be used very sparingly as a venue for conferences on education.
With this in mind College staff, early in 1974, decided to explore the possibility of mounting a national conference in Perth with the practicum of teacher education as its theme. A …
A Submission For The Award Of An Associate Diploma In Health Education, Claremont Teachers College
A Submission For The Award Of An Associate Diploma In Health Education, Claremont Teachers College
Research outputs pre 2011
Health education is a process which effects changes in the health practices of people and in the knowledge and attitudes related to such changes. Education is an internal process for the individual concerned. He educates himself, even though his education is assisted by such means as contacts with health workers, appeals directed to him, information made available, clarification of issues, alternatives, and consequences as a basis for a rational choice. Education thus places responsibility on the individual and is essentially different from a compliance approach. It involves motivation, communication and decision-making. Planned education must take into account the relevant knowledge …

Survey Of Education Of Aboriginal Children In Selected Western Australian Schools : (Preliminary Survey), C. Makin, D. Ibbotson
Research outputs pre 2011
Information was sought late in 1972 about problems encountered by teachers in schools with a fairly high proportion of Aboriginal children. For this purpose a questionnaire was designed to elicit information about the school situation, the surrounding community, enrolment, age and experience of the teaching staff and actual pedagogical problems encountered and methods of dealing with them. Another principle aim was to ascertain the extent to which the curiculum had been adapted to local situations and to determine what implications this might have for pre-service and in-service training.

A Submission For The Award Of A Diploma Of Teaching, Churchlands Teachers College
Research outputs pre 2011
The Churchlands Teachers College was established in 1972 and at September, 1973, had a total enrolment of 422, including 253 first-year students and 169 students in their second year of primary training. The programme is being developed in accommodation designed on similar principles to the open-area primary schools which are being established in Western Australia. Teaching blocks are modular cluster units, each of which typically comprises a large open area surrounded by teaching areas of adjustable size, a tutorial room and staff studies. The teaching blocks are positioned in close relationship to the centrally-placed buildings of the Educational Resources Service …
