Resistance-based exercise interventions are an integral part of supportive cancer care, though their high quality and high-fidelity implementation with people with cancer living in non-metropolitan locations is challenging. This systematic scoping review aimed to identify how exercise prescription principles and measures of fidelity are reported in resistance-based exercise interventions delivered to people with cancer living in regional, rural and remote areas. A systematic scoping review was conducted in accordance with the PRISMA-ScR guidelines. Five electronic databases were searched (MEDLINE/PubMed, Embase, CINAHL, SCOPUS and SportDiscus) for peer-reviewed studies published in English, that delivered a resistance-based exercise intervention to adult cancer survivors …
From Thin Films To Energy Systems: A Perspective-Oriented Translational Framework For Deployable Functional Materials, Mohammad Nur-E-Alam
From Thin Films To Energy Systems: A Perspective-Oriented Translational Framework For Deployable Functional Materials, Mohammad Nur-E-Alam
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
The translation of high-performance thin-film materials from lab-scale development to field-deployable energy systems remains a significant holdup in sustainable technology development. The real-world impact of functional thin films, nanocomposites, and emerging photovoltaic architectures is often limited by issues with scalability, interfacial reliability, environmental stability, and system-level integration, despite their excellent optical and electronic performance at the device level. A translational framework that is deployment-oriented and systematically connects interface-centric device integration, application-context validation, system-level performance feedback, and process-aware thin-film engineering has been presented in this article. Common structure-property-deployment trade-offs are identified through a comparative analysis of representative case domains, such as …

Geometric Characterization Of Ideals In Bipolar Semigroups, Kittipong Laipaporn, Rasimate Maungchang, David M. Cook, Prathomjit Khachorncharoenkul
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
This paper develops a geometric framework for analyzing the ideal structure of the bipolar semigroup ={(−,)∣,∈ℝ+0} under coordinate-wise addition. Subsets of B are interpreted as planar regions, allowing ideals to be described in terms of boundary behavior. In particular, we prove that the complement of a simply connected region is an ideal of the commutative additive semigroup (,+) if and only if its boundary contains no strictly decreasing segment. This provides a direct and visually verifiable criterion for ideality, linking algebraic structure to geometric shape. Each ideal can be written as a union of translates of the form +, with …

Georoad-Upernet: Geo-1-Based Weakly Supervised Multispectral Road Extraction Via Role-Aware Context Fusion And Semantic Regularization, Shaoqian Chen, Yunliang Chen, Jianxin Li, Ao Yang
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
Extracting roads accurately from remote sensing images is important for map updates, traffic analysis, and infrastructure monitoring. Medium-resolution multispectral images can provide useful surface and background information, but when used alone, the spatial details are limited for retaining narrow roads, intersection structures, and fine road topologies. To address this problem, this paper proposes GeoRoad-UPerNet, a Geo-1-centered weakly supervised multispectral framework for road extraction. In this framework, Geo-1 serves as the primary 16-band multispectral source, Sentinel-2 Level-2A imagery serves as auxiliary contextual support, and OpenStreetMap (OSM) road information is converted into proxy supervision rather than dense manual ground truth. GeoRoad-UPerNet contains …

Research outputs 2022 to 2026
Studies characterising the immunoglobulin (Ig)-bound microbiota apply varying methodologies, making comparisons difficult. This scoping review synthesised evidence on Ig–microbiota binding patterns in maternal and infant contexts, identified recurrent Ig-bound and -unbound bacteria across studies, and highlighted knowledge gaps for further study. Nine articles investigating Ig–microbiota binding patterns in stool or breastmilk samples in mothers or infants were included. Ig–microbiota associations were influenced by sample type, Ig-subclass, genetics, and diet. The most important antibody was IgA, with partial functional redundancy with IgM, while IgG appeared more selective for pathobionts. Ig-bound taxa in early life included important commensals and pathobionts, with high …

Nanofluid Flooding As A Sufficient Alternative To Waterflooding For Incremental Oil Recovery From Carbonate Reservoirs, Sarmad Al-Anssari, Dhifaf Sadeq, Hassanain A. Hassan, Ahmed Hamid Al-Taie, Hasan Ali Abood, Mohammed Mahdi, Zain Ul Abedin Arain
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
Oil recovery from carbonate reservoirs is one of the critical challenges in the oil industry due to the strongly oil-wet nature, natural fractures, and the heterogeneity of carbonate rocks. Subsequently, waterflooding can only displace oil from large fractures, leaving the majority of oil trapped in the rock matrix. This work suggests that nanofluid flooding, as a predesigned flooding method, is an alternative to conventional waterflooding. Various concentrations of silica nanofluid at different nanoparticle concentrations were formulated and systematically investigated for their characteristics, stability at reservoir conditions, and their influence on wettability and oil recovery. Silica nanoparticles were sustainably synthesized from …

Research outputs 2022 to 2026
Stenting is a minimally invasive treatment used in managing peripheral artery disease (PAD). However, clinical challenges persist, including in-stent thrombosis and restenosis, primarily driven by axial foreshortening or elongation and suboptimal balance between radial stiffness and flexibility inherent to conventional stent designs. This study proposes an innovative arrow-shaped geometry exhibiting zero Poisson’s ratio (ZPR) behaviour for 3D-printed self-expanding Nitinol stents. The complete stent deployment process was modelled using finite element analysis (FEA), including radial crimping and subsequent expansion to enable systematic parametric investigation while accounting for µ-3D printing constraints. Response surface methodology (RSM) rigorously evaluated mechanical performance, defining peak stress, …

Rvit-Fusionnet: A Local Cross-Attention Feature Fusion-Based Hybrid Framework For Brain Tumor Classification, Naima Islam, Sajeeb Kumar Ray, Md Anwar Hossain, Syed Mohammed Shamsul Islam
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
Accurate brain tumor classification via MRI is essential for diagnosis and treatment. This study introduces RViT-FusionNet, a hybrid deep learning model that integrates convolutional and transformer architectures for enhanced tumor detection. The model utilizes ResNet-50 to capture textural details and a Vision Transformer for extracting global context. A Local Cross-Attention (LCA) module is proposed to align and merge these features, allowing the network to model local structures and long-range dependencies concurrently. To enhance generalization across varied imaging conditions and tumor types, a domain discriminator is included to discern spatial and domain-specific patterns, fostering the learning of domain-invariant representations. The approach …

Research outputs 2022 to 2026
Translocating threatened ecosystem engineers may offer the dual benefit of contributing to species conservation and ecosystem restoration. Boodies (burrowing bettong; Bettongia lesueur) and woylies (brush-tailed bettong; Bettongia ogilbyi) are threatened mycophagous marsupials known for their crucial role in ecosystem health through fungal dispersal and bioturbation. As part of restoration efforts across Australia, these bettong species are frequently targeted for translocations, where a better understanding of their fungal dietary requirements is essential for ensuring their resource requirements are met and in predicting their ecological contributions to recipient ecosystems. Here, we used DNA metabarcoding to study the fungal diets of boodies and …

Multiple-Nozzle Sprays: Comparison To Single-Nozzle Sprays And Role Of Directional Conditional Filtering, Farzad Hossain, Matthew J. Cleary, Yasir M. Al-Abdeli, Mehdi Khiadani
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
Spray-based droplet evaporation systems used in desalination and cooling applications depend on both nozzle arrangement and the interpretation of measured droplet behaviour. This study examines (i) how multi-nozzle configurations differ from single-nozzle characteristics and (ii) how ensemble-averaged measurements change when droplets are separated according to their motion direction (upward or downward). Atmospheric water sprays generated by full-cone spray nozzles were investigated using Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) for droplet axial velocity measurements and Shadowgraph imaging to determine droplet size and count. Directional filtering was performed using Large Eddy Simulation (LES), validated against experiments. Single- and dual-nozzle configurations were tested with horizontal …

Problem Midwifery workforce sustainability remains a critical concern for maternity services. Existing literature predominantly focuses on burnout and attrition, offering limited insight into what influences midwives’ decisions to remain within specific workplaces. Background Midwives consistently report strong professional commitment alongside growing workforce instability. National data indicate that uncertainty about current roles does not necessarily reflect disengagement from the profession. Understanding workplace-level influences on retention is therefore essential for targeted workforce strategy. Aim To examine how workplace stress and satisfaction with the practice environment are associated with Western Australian midwives’ intention to stay in their current job and in the profession. …

Wafer and FPGA testing remains costly in semiconductor manufacturing. This paper studies random sampling, stratified sampling, and k-means sampling under a partial-measurement setting with Gaussian Process Regression (GPR), and introduces Short Distance Elimination (SDE), a spatial screening rule that spreads selected training points over the layout. Combining value-based sampling with SDE yields two hybrid methods: S-SDE, which applies SDE within stratified subsets, and K-SDE, which applies SDE within k-means clusters. A calibration-based protocol fixes the value-group labels and SDE thresholds before target-file prediction. The SDE thresholds are selected from (Formula presented.) configurations in (Formula presented.), excluding (Formula presented.), using local …

Intrinsic capacity (IC) is defined as the composite of physical and mental abilities an individual possesses, encompassing 5 domains: cognition, psychological health, sensory function, vitality, and locomotion. This construct is central to the World Health Organization’s framework for assessing functional ability in older adults. Growing evidence highlights the critical role of the musculoskeletal system in maintaining these domains, while conditions such as sarcopenia, osteoporosis, and their coexistence as osteosarcopenia (OS) are increasingly associated with IC decline. This narrative review compiles current evidence on the modulatory role of muscles and bones in IC and the impacts of sarcopenia, osteoporosis, and OS. …

Fire in forested catchments significantly alters organic matter fluxes by generating dissolved organic matter (DOM) different from that generated under non-fire conditions. Elucidating the composition of DOM is key to understanding its persistence in the post-fire environment. This laboratory study aimed to establish a relationship between DOM quantity and quality with aspects of fire regime. Soil and litter samples were collected from areas with different burn histories (described as Time Since Last Fire – TSLF). Each sample was subjected to burn temperature treatments simulating different burn severity regimes in a muffle furnace (at 250°C – low severity, 350°C – moderate …

Drilling Fluid Enhancement Via Addition Of Sustainably Synthesized Nanoparticles, Hasan A. Abbood, Sarmad Al-Anssari
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
The addition of nanoparticles to the drilling fluids for geological projects is a promising application for enhancing the stability, rheological properties, and overall performance of the mud. This study aims to thoroughly analyze and compare the effects of silica and alumina nanoparticles on the properties and effectiveness of polymer drilling mud. Silica and alpha-alumina nanoparticles were synthesized using the sol-gel process and characterized through several techniques, including X-ray diffraction, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, field-emission scanning electron microscopy, and atomic force microscopy. The effects of silica and alumina nanoparticles on various properties of drilling mud were then measured using a permeable plugging …
Exploring Opportunities To Integrate Climate Change Into Gross National Happiness For Bhutan And Its Application For Global Wellbeing-Centred Climate Resilient Development, Tashi Dorji, Angus Morrison-Saunders, David Blake
Exploring Opportunities To Integrate Climate Change Into Gross National Happiness For Bhutan And Its Application For Global Wellbeing-Centred Climate Resilient Development, Tashi Dorji, Angus Morrison-Saunders, David Blake
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
Climate change poses an increasing threat to human wellbeing, but despite this intricate relationship, addressing climate change rarely mainstreams wellbeing objectives. This study explores opportunities to integrate climate change into Bhutan’s development philosophy of Gross National Happiness (GNH) and examines how this experience can inform a wellbeing-centred global application through Climate Resilient Development (CRD). Using a qualitative design combining semi-structured interviews with 41 policy influencers in Bhutan, document analysis, and literature synthesis, this study identifies two complementary points of integration. The first involves identifying and then embedding climate-wellbeing stressors into the 9 domains and 33 GNH indicators used in the …
If You’Re Doing This Correctly, There Is A Cost: An Exploration Of The Work–Family Trade-Off Of Female Academics In Australia, Fleur Sharafizad
If You’Re Doing This Correctly, There Is A Cost: An Exploration Of The Work–Family Trade-Off Of Female Academics In Australia, Fleur Sharafizad
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
Purpose: This paper aims to explore how the gendered structures and expectations of neoliberal academic institutions inform and shape work–family trade-off considerations for women academics in Australia. It also sheds light on how these negotiations, and at times, the ensuing career or family gap, are experienced. In doing so, the paper deepens our understanding of the systematic barriers which do not only lead to gender inequalities in academia but also have broader individual and social implications. Design/methodology/approach: This exploratory study is based on qualitative semi-structured interviews, which were thematically analysed to identify how female academics navigate the expectations associated with …

Background: Circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) is a promising biomarker in melanoma, with higher sensitivity for tumor burden detection than conventional diagnostics. While well established in research, clinical routine implementation remains pending. Key global questions concern optimal clinical applications and barriers to adoption.
Methods: A web-based survey of 116 members of the Melanoma World Society Study Group assessed international expert opinions on ctDNA utility across predefined clinical scenarios. The questionnaire included 18 general questions on ctDNA use and 5 clinical vignettes with de-identified patient data and retrospectively obtained ctDNA results.
Results: ctDNA was rated most valuable for detecting minimal residual disease …
