The Practicum: Present And Future : Report On The National Conference On Teacher Education, Perth, Western Australia, 18-22 August 1975, Mount Lawley College Of Advanced Education
Research outputs pre 2011
In Western Australia concern had been expressed among those involved in the professional preparation of teachers that there was a tendency to de-emphasize the practical components of courses in favour of the more theoretical academic disciplines.
There was a view expressed, perhaps rather parachially, that Western Australia, disadvantaged by distance for on-going communication between institutions, also appeared to be used very sparingly as a venue for conferences on education.
With this in mind College staff, early in 1974, decided to explore the possibility of mounting a national conference in Perth with the practicum of teacher education as its theme. A …

In the short time available it has been impossible to prepare this submission in anything but general terms. However, the aim has been to comment on four major aspects of the development of tertiary institutions in this State:
PLANNING
1.1 restructuring of the bodies co-ordinating tertiary education
1.2 co-ordinated development of overlapping areas of technical, further and tertiary education
1.3 community college and open-learning operation of tertiary institutions for greater benefit of local communities
1.4 accountability of institutions of advanced education in terms of vocational supply and demand and community benefit proportional to public funds invested in such institutions.

Health education is a process which effects changes in the health practices of people and in the knowledge and attitudes related to such changes. Education is an internal process for the individual concerned. He educates himself, even though his education is assisted by such means as contacts with health workers, appeals directed to him, information made available, clarification of issues, alternatives, and consequences as a basis for a rational choice. Education thus places responsibility on the individual and is essentially different from a compliance approach. It involves motivation, communication and decision-making. Planned education must take into account the relevant knowledge …

Survey Of Education Of Aboriginal Children In Selected Western Australian Schools : (Preliminary Survey), C. Makin, D. Ibbotson
Research outputs pre 2011
Information was sought late in 1972 about problems encountered by teachers in schools with a fairly high proportion of Aboriginal children. For this purpose a questionnaire was designed to elicit information about the school situation, the surrounding community, enrolment, age and experience of the teaching staff and actual pedagogical problems encountered and methods of dealing with them. Another principle aim was to ascertain the extent to which the curiculum had been adapted to local situations and to determine what implications this might have for pre-service and in-service training.

A Submission For The Award Of A Diploma Of Teaching, Churchlands Teachers College
Research outputs pre 2011
The Churchlands Teachers College was established in 1972 and at September, 1973, had a total enrolment of 422, including 253 first-year students and 169 students in their second year of primary training. The programme is being developed in accommodation designed on similar principles to the open-area primary schools which are being established in Western Australia. Teaching blocks are modular cluster units, each of which typically comprises a large open area surrounded by teaching areas of adjustable size, a tutorial room and staff studies. The teaching blocks are positioned in close relationship to the centrally-placed buildings of the Educational Resources Service …
