Covered in a short and brief manner are the many facets of a building and renovation project that took place in the 1980-81 school year. This project took place in Tower Hill, Illinois, a small, rural community in south central Illinois. The cost of the project was approximately $750,000. It involved the building of a new gymnasium and the renovation of the old gymnasium …

School Emergency Administration Plan, Samuel R. Nall Jan 1981

School Emergency Administration Plan, Samuel R. Nall

Masters Theses

Statement of Purpose

The purpose of this field study was to develop a handbook that Illinois school district administrators may utilize during a teacher work stoppage. During the 1980-1981 school year, approximately 81 percent of all Illinois teachers were covered by some type of bargaining agreement. Thus, this study was deemed timely and relevant.

Procedure

Even though this field study was designed for Marion County schools, it may readily be modified to serve as an objective reference for all Illinois schools. It is divided into three major sections, in addition to an introduction and a summary, to facilitate a greater …

Character Motivation And Definition Through Dialog In The Memory Plays Of Harold Pinter, Douglas E. Grohne Jan 1981

Character Motivation And Definition Through Dialog In The Memory Plays Of Harold Pinter, Douglas E. Grohne

Masters Theses

Several critics have suggested that the plays of Harold Pinter are incomprehensible because the characters do not explicitly explain their actions and motivations. These comments come because the critics and audiences are conditioned to expect a playwright to in some way explain the motivations and personalities of his characters with a standard explanation given through explicit dialog, copious stage directions, or other means. But Pinter believes that it is dangerous for a playwright to design a play with one overall purpose in mind because the chances are that the purpose will be mistaken.

Pinter prefers to write in a realistic …

Notebook To Stage: The Creative Process In Dramatic Art, Terry Kroenung Jan 1981

Notebook To Stage: The Creative Process In Dramatic Art, Terry Kroenung

Masters Theses

The following paper is the description of a creative fine arts project involving the writing, direction, and design of an original play, Sons of the Morning. This work is examined from both literary and theatrical viewpoints, with an eye to evaluating the entire learning experience.

Structuralism is used as the critical mode in the literary analysis. This technique reveals the existence of many dichotomies--good/evil, strength/weakness, love/hate--in theme, plot, and character. These opposites create conflict, the basis of drama, and contrast. They are the source of tensions between the characters and within each individual. The dichotomies are also seen to …

The Distribution And Relative Abundance Of Aquatic Oligochaeta In The Upper Cache River System, Southern Illinois, In Relation To Water Quality, Mark Julian Wetzel Jan 1981

The Distribution And Relative Abundance Of Aquatic Oligochaeta In The Upper Cache River System, Southern Illinois, In Relation To Water Quality, Mark Julian Wetzel

Masters Theses

Species composition, distribution, abundance, and water quality relationships of aquatic oligochaetes occurring in the upper Cache River system, southern Illinois were investigated. Forty-two taxa of oligochaetes including 16 naidids, 22 tubificids and representatives of the families Aeolosomatidae, Branchiobdellidae, Enchytraeidae, and Lumbriculidae were collected. Four species of oligochaetes new to Illinois, Limnodrilus psammophilus Loden, L. rubripenis Loden, Psammoryctides (Spencerius) californianus Brinkhurst, and Haemonais waldvogeli Bretscher were collected during this study. Another species of Limnodrilus new to science is reported here, as yet undescribed. The thesis that aquatic oligochaetes can be used as true water quality indicator organisms is rejected. It is …

A Trophic Analysis Of Three Species Of Elmidae From Polecat And Riley Creeks, Coles County, Ill., Robert D. Davis Jr. Jan 1981

A Trophic Analysis Of Three Species Of Elmidae From Polecat And Riley Creeks, Coles County, Ill., Robert D. Davis Jr.

Masters Theses

The food habits of Stenelmis sexlineata, Stenelmis vittipennis, Stenelmis crenata, and larval Stenelmis were studied in Polecat and Riley Creeks, Coles County, Illinois. Rock Scrapings were taken and compared with the gut analyses of the larval and adult beetles. These beetles were found to be scraper/collectors and detritivore/herbivores, generally scraping surfaces of rocks. Detritus, green algae, and diatoms were found to be the major categories present in both the rock scrapings and the gut analyses. The cellular contents of diatoms (chloroplasts and other cytoplasmic inclusions) were digested by the beetles. No conclusions regarding feeding preferences are made, …

Chapter 2, "A Preliminary Spectroscopic Study of Field-Induced Ion Movements in Flame Gases.", describes the effects of longitudinal electric fields on CH …

An Analysis Of A Building Bond Referendum, Daniel L. Meyer Jan 1981

An Analysis Of A Building Bond Referendum, Daniel L. Meyer

Masters Theses

The decision regarding student housing is one which will affect every school board and administrator. Decisions made by the people involved will affect the community for generations. Making economically feasible and educationally sound decisions regarding student housing is most difficult, especially when one considers many of the variables involved with decisions of this type. Some of the variables researched for this successful building bond referendum were: enrollment patterns, birth rates, cohort survival rates for the district and enrollment projections.

The researcher was involved with the facility study committee during the period of time the information was being collected. Once the …
