STEM has become a growing topic in recent years. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. There is a strong emphasis on improving and expanding STEM education to meet the demands of our STEM-focused society. To fill this need afterschool programs have emerged as key partners in STEM education to provide inspirational STEM enrichment opportunities. The study aims to explore if STEM activities narrow the achievement gap of participants from low socio-economic status (SES) in East Central Illinois. The unique structure and superior properties of lanthanide porphyrins enable them to be used in a broad variety of applications, especially in medical diagnosis fields. This research focuses on modifying the porphyrin ligands in various places, resulting in broader absorption in the red region and strong emission in the near-infrared region for these ytterbium(III) porphyrin complexes. The design, synthesis and characterization for DMPH2-BDP, DMPH2-COOH, TPLH2 ligands and YbDMP-BDP, YbDMP-COOH complexes are described. Plant biomass is considered to be an important future starting material for fuels and chemicals, thereby decreasing our reliance on fossil fuels. While direct combustion continues to be a source of fuel, the generation of liquid fuels from plant biomass for transportation has proven to be challenging. Among the limiting factors for conversion of this material to biofuels is the recalcitrant nature of lignocellulose, the primary component of non-starch plant biomass. A strategy to overcome this dilemma is to directly or indirectly use the enzymes from white-rot fungi, which have evolved a unique ability to deconstruct lignocellulose. However, the biochemical …

Circumstances that lead to placement in foster care and even the experience of foster care itself can be traumatic to children. These negative events and others, including abuse, neglect, and parental separation/divorce, are considered adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) {American Academy of Pediatrics, n.d.). Approximately 90% of all foster children have experienced one or more ACEs before or during their time in foster care (Dorsey et al., 2011). In 62 7 CE, a nomadic army exploded through the Caspian Gates and into the northernmost lands of the Sasanian Empire (in present day Dagestan and Azerbaijan). Our principal historian, Movses Dasxuranc'i (also called Movses Kagankatvac'i) calls them Khazars, and he may well be correct. 1 But they were certainly a part of the Western Turkic KJ1aganate, invading at the behest of the great TongYabghu Khagan. Managing conflict is something that is unavoidable, especially within romantic relationships. There are several factors that can i.nfluence how successfully a person manages conflict; such as the type of conflict involved, the conflict management strategy they employ, and possibly even their adult attachment style. The purpose of this study was to see if the perceived success of conflict management would be affected by a person's adult attachment style, and if certain conflict management strategies would be associated with certain attachment styles. The purpose of this study is to determine the extent of oral health education among head and neck cancer patients throughout various treatment periods and how this education influences their oral health practices, determine satisfaction with education and support based on initial symptoms as well as identify modifications to approaches to oral care education and further define a model for interprofessional practices to establish a role for speech-language pathologists in oral health education. On March 25, 1837, a recent medical school graduate boarded a ship which, unbeknownst to him, would carry him into his future career. The ship was the Virginian, a sailing-vessel, traveling across the Atlantic Ocean from New Yark to Liverpool.1 The graduate was Pliny Earle, a twenty-seven year old Quaker from rural Massachusetts, who would become one of the most well-known and well-respected psychiatrists of the nineteenth century, as well as a prolific writer on the subject.

The purpose of this study was to gain insight into the practices used by Illinois school-based SLPs in assessing bilingual students and the challenges they face. A survey made on surveyplanent.com was distributed via email through the Illinois Speech-Language-Hearing Association to gather information on typical bilingual assessment such as frequently used methods, resources available by district, and continuing education opportunities. Responses were analyzed via SPSS Statistics to understand any relationships between SLP language proficiency, years of experience, percentage of bilingual caseload, reports of graduate preparation, and continuing education opportunities with their bilingual assessment practices. COVID-19 upended life around the world, including on college campuses across the U.S. where institutions restructured their class modalities, campus life, extracurricular activities, and intercollegiate athletics - including college football. We examine the factors that led universities to make their decisions to play or not play college football during fall 2020, hypothesizing that the decision to play would be consistent with the decision about class modality for health and safety reasons, and that monetary and political motivations would also play a significant role.
