Fifth Grade Students’ Disciplinary Literacy Using Diverse Primary And Secondary Sources, Tara L. Richeson
The Councilor: A National Journal of the Social Studies
This study analyzed students’ use of diverse sources for a history-based writing assignment on Abraham Lincoln. Participants includes 41 students in a fifth grade self-contained classroom in rural Illinois. The study was conducted during students’ 30-minute writing period, every day for six weeks. During this time period, students close-read trade books and primary sources to collect research on Lincoln. Students also gathered additional information during their field trip to the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum. Students synthesized their information from the various sources and organized the notes to write an informational, history-based writing piece on Lincoln. Students were required …

Notes On The Same Side, Margaret E. Winters
Journal of Collective Bargaining in the Academy
Administration-side academic contract administrators have a complex job. It includes, in addition to carrying out negotiations and the implementation of contracts, the sometimes fraught task of serving as the liaison between the union and the university administration. A further set of roles for contract administrators involve their relationships with other members of the university administration, chairs, deans, provosts, presidents, and board members. These relationships will be examined first in light of each of these positions, taken in turn, vis-à-vis collective bargaining and then through a discussion of how the various aspects of the role of the contract administrator (negotiations, implementation, …
Rhapsody In Blue: An Icon Of Jazz And American Culture, Abigail Emmert
Rhapsody In Blue: An Icon Of Jazz And American Culture, Abigail Emmert
2019 Awards for Excellence in Student Research and Creative Activity – Documents
“Jazz, they said, has to be in strict time….I resolved, if possible, to kill that misconception with one sturdy blow.”1 Since its premiere, George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue has remained a unique icon of jazz and American culture. His childhood and experience with piano and Tin Pan Alley in New York City led him to writing Rhapsody in Blue, which resulted in the emergence of a new composition style. His determination to create a new American sound out of his experiences and to create a new approach to jazz music brought much attention and even criticism to Rhapsody. …

White Grub In Bluegill In The Sangamon River: Impact Of Sewage Effluent And Flow Regime On Infection Parameters, Miranda White
Masters Theses
White grub (Posthodiplostomum minimum) is a digenetic trematode that uses a piscivorous bird, a pulmonate snail, and a centrarchid fish to complete its life cycle. To assess the impact of impoundment and sewage effluent on white grub infection parameters, infections in bluegill (Lepomis macrochirus) were monitored in 3 reaches of the Sangamon River near Decatur, Illinois: Reach 1- free-flowing river upstream of Lake Decatur Dam, unimpacted by sewage effluent, Reach 2- impounded flow below Lake Decatur Dam, unimpacted by sewage effluent, and Reach 3- free-flowing river downstream of Sanitary District of Decatur, impacted by sewage effluent. Liver and kidney abundances …

EFFECTIVENESS OF PCBE ON STUDENT ENGAGEMENT ii
Abstract
This study examines the impact of Personalized Competency-Based Education (PCBE) on student engagement across varying ethnicities and grade levels. Personalized Competency-Based Education is built upon the premise that student learning should be based upon the following characteristics: learning is student-owned, learning accommodates flexible pacing, learning shows demonstration of proficiency, students track their own progress, and students determine their own learning pathways and goals. Since current research is limited on the impact of PCBE, especially at the secondary level of education, further study is needed in order to determine how PCBE implementation will …
