Faculty Research and Creative Activity

Resistance exercise is used as a non-pharmacological tool to elicit both gains in and maintenance of physical function in the elderly. Thus, the present study examined the acute response of creatine kinase and interleukin-6 following an eccentric resistance exercise session in elderly obese women classified as high responders or normal responders.

At its best, a university is a collection of individuals ‐‐ students and faculty ‐‐ focused on learning and discovering new knowledge. Authenticity 2014-2015

Joseph Carroll is a founding figure in evolutionary literary study. His book Evolution and Literary Theory, published in 1995, was the first book-length work in the field. His 2004 collection of essays, Literary Darwinism, gave the field the name by which it is most commonly known. Literary Darwinists are animated by a conviction that the human species has evolved in adaptive relation to a physical world, that human bodies and brains contain complex adaptive structures, and that the products of the literary imagination are shaped by biologically grounded motives, passions, and forms of cognition. Eastern Illinois State Normal School was founded in 1895. It became, successively, Eastern Illinois State Teachers College (1921), Eastern Illinois State College (1947), and Eastern Illinois University (1957). The university was first accredited by the North Central Association in 1915; in 1920, it began offering the Bachelor of Education degree. In 1953, the university received accreditation as a master's degree-granting institution; in 1954, its mission was expanded to include Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degree programs. Rising temperatures caused by climate change could negatively alter plant ecosystems if temperatures exceed optimal

temperatures for carbon gain. Such changes may threaten temperature-sensitive species, causing local extinctions and

range migrations. This study examined the optimal temperature of net photosynthesis (Topt) of two boreal and four

temperate deciduous tree species grown in the field in northern Minnesota, United States under two contrasting temperature

regimes. We hypothesized that Topt would be higher in temperate than co-occurring boreal species, with

temperate species exhibiting greater plasticity in Topt, resulting in better acclimation to elevated temperatures. The

The ownership of copyrights in a faculty member’s copyrighted works has been a source of tension between labor and management for many years, affecting content created for the classroom, for scholarship, and for creative endeavors. Ownership of on-line learning content adds to these tensions and presents a number of important labor-management and pedagogical issues. The legal default rules of copyright provide the starting point for negotiations between labor and management. This panel will explore whether the institution or the faculty member owns the intellectual property associated with on-line learning, course content, and other works.
