Juvenile Delinquency: A Comparative Analysis Between Divorced And Married Homes, Cristina R. Prestin-Latham
Juvenile Delinquency: A Comparative Analysis Between Divorced And Married Homes, Cristina R. Prestin-Latham
Masters Theses
The purpose of this research was to determine if children being raised in divorced homes are more likely to be juvenile delinquents that children being raised in married homes. Additionally, this study sought to determine if the age of the child during the divorce further contributes to the likelihood of delinquent behavior. The majority of previous studies indicate children from divorced homes are more prone to juvenile delinquency than children from married homes. The sample in this study consisted of 544 participants. Using a self-reporting, anonymous questionnaire, participants were asked questions about their childhood home structure and their adolescent delinquent …

The Construction Of Spiritual Identity: Cmm And Conversion To Catholicism, Stephanie Gruner
Masters Theses
This study uses the Coordinated Management of Meaning (CMM) to examine the spiritual stories of six people who were not raised Catholic, but joined the Catholic faith as adults. The participants' experiences reveal that their spiritual identities have both personal and communal aspects and that they view their identities as both fixed and changing. Additionally, when communicating their spiritualities to others these individuals must balance relationship concerns with the desire to express their spiritual identities. Applying CMM's hierarchy of meaning to the data shows that the levels work together in shaping the participants' understandings of their identities. The participants' relationships …

Undermining Principles Of Academic Freedom: The "Academic Bill Of Rights" Movement, Gerry Turkel
Journal of Collective Bargaining in the Academy
The “Academic Bill of Rights” movement, launched by right wing activists in
2003, has sought to legislate control over student rights, the hiring of faculty members,
and curricula. It activists claims to seek academic freedom in an academy that has been
virtually taken over by leftists aiming at indoctrinating students into their vision of the
world. Through a variety of groups, including Students for Academic Freedom, the
movement claims to base its initiatives on principles established by the American
Association of University Professors (AAUP). These efforts, which seek to bring
academia under governmental control and which seek to extend a …

The Development Of A Pay-For-Performance Appraisal System For Municipal Agencies: A Case Study, Michael A. Mulvaney, William R. Mckinney, Richard Grodsky
The Development Of A Pay-For-Performance Appraisal System For Municipal Agencies: A Case Study, Michael A. Mulvaney, William R. Mckinney, Richard Grodsky
Faculty Research and Creative Activity
Well-designed employee performance appraisal instruments assume great importance by providing agencies with information that can guide administrative and developmental decision-making about their most important asset—their human resources. Administratively, performance appraisals serve as the formal evaluation tool used by managers when making decisions about the distribution of pay increases and the promotion and demotion of an employee. Developmentally, performance appraisals assist agencies in identifying issues such as employee training needs and cross training opportunities.1 Despite its importance, both employees and management often view the performance appraisal process as frustrating and unfair. These frustrations are largely attributed to a reliance on performance …
